I visited Bert in the early 80s and imported Ch Bubba-Boe and a number of others into Aus, I spent a lot of time with Bert, he came to my house in Aus 2 times for mth each vist, I went to his place 3 times, we had many long meaningful talks that went from daylight all night to sun up the next day, a lot of what is being said here is not what Bert told me, just briefly Bolio, Bo-leo as Bert would say it was not closely related to Koelers Bull, in fact, Bert told me Bolio was a cur, the value of Bull he said was his Sire Zeke and his sire Fitzwaters Goldie who he said was a pure Corvino dog and they played with the papers, he also told me Corvinos Crazy Mary and her pup Crazy Mary 11, were instrumental to his family of dogs and the perdigrees to them is a blueprint to breeding, also said Boomarangs breeding is not whats stated, I have Crazy Marys pedigree hand written amongst other things from that time in my life, Bert was about family breeding and his knowledge on breeding was unbelievable and he wanted finish in his dogs above everything which is gameness on a higher level, I could go on here as there is so much he told me about famous dogs and BS pedigrees, he said when you know the dogs in a pedigree you seen them with your own eyes,, he said those truly great dogs were bred to be that I have a lot on video of him talking it, Bert was a special dogman with an insight into dogs that's rare.

I have been trying to do research on the concept of developing a dog perfect for personal preference as well as lines and dog genetics in general. I am having a hard time finding resources that go as deep as I want to go. I would be interested to know where to find good resources for understanding dog genetics in general, breeding, breed establishment/ development, etc.

Nice video, thanks for the history lesson. Question: it seems like the Sorrells line has a bit of an unconventional look (stockier, bullish)…do you know if there was another breed(s) introduced way back in the bloodline to get this unique look?

In Balkan countries,Russia etc they have big apbt,catchweight pure line,they look simmilar like this one just bit bigger. I guess countries were fighting is still a thing apbt evolve to be bigger for open class,also they use them for Tosa/Bully/Volkodov all 200 pounds dogs,apbt are going around 35 plus kg,80 pounds and more for open tournaments.

Knowing that the old dogmen hung their papers to get top dollar for their pups what percentage of current bloodlines do you think is truly accurate??
@APBT-Bandog Жыл бұрын
I don't think they "hung papers to get top dollar for their pups." Those men were often gamblers that bred the best dogs they could, and as a result, I believe they often did that so others could not copy what they were running.

What are the qualities of the Sorrells line,that you think separated them from other bloodlines?
@APBT-Bandog Жыл бұрын
Bert had a good eye and always tried to improve the line. With 40 years working on the breed, he had more time to refine the dogs into ideal all-around capable dogs...good at just about anything you throw at them. Few people work on selectively breeding a line for that length of time.

I enjoy your video and appreciate the history. But I disagree strongly on your direction of Bolio. Indian Sonny bought Bolio. How is it comical that he's known as Indian Bolio? Patrick bought a stolen dog and hid breedings off of Bolio for years because he knew that he bought a stolen dog. To call Pat Patrick the rightful owner would be like someone stealing a dog you bought from Burt and someone laughing in your face about it and not sure why you think it's your dog. "Bolillo" is Mexican bread.

The name Indian BOLIO is not silly it’s because Indian Sonny owned him before he got stolen & ended up on Patrick’s yard get your facts straight
@APBT-Bandog Жыл бұрын
I find it hilarious when people present part of the story and then act like they are posting facts or know what they are talking about. You left out a few important facts pal. I said silly because he did not produce the dog, and did not end up having the dog when he was bred again and again. Additionally, maybe you did know Indian Sonny had previously stole Patrick's dog Tater, who was an exceptional dog that went over 2 hours against Carver's Rastus. But, maybe you did not know that.
