I totally understand the study about being less overwhelmed by lying on the floor. When I was a child, I loved playing with my toys on the floor and I remember being happy. I can’t just lay on the floor now because I would never be able to get back up. That would definitely overwhelm me. 🤦🏾‍♀️

i actually highly recommend Floor Time. but it’s best done with a thin mat/mattress under you + a pillow for your head (especially if you have a janky spine like me) and headphones! the feeling of spacing out while simultaneously being grounded is unironically great. it’s also good motivation to clean your floor lol

I spend a lot of time on the floor. My dogs don't like it when I get on their sofa. I remember my grandpa used to like to nap on the floor. He was kind of a big guy. Getting him up off the floor was kind of an ordeal. It took the whole family about 15 minutes to get him up.

Tons of things in space produce radio waves. Anything that produces light and anything that has changing magnetic fields will put out some radio that's detectable if it's close enough. (Most of the static you hear on the radio is from the Sun! It says hi! The other planets also make radio waves, which various people translate into hauntingly beautiful audio for you to enjoy if you wanna feel small.) To be detectable from this distance, we're talking a _ridiculously_ powerful source. This particular signal is almost certainly from a neutron star. Neutron stars are extremely weird objects left behind after a supernova. (Really big supernovae make black holes instead.) They have lots of bizarre properties, but the thing relevant here is that they like to fire beams of radiation off their magnetic poles. These beams are detectable from way further away than normal, since they're really powerful. Because the star is spinning, the beam appears to us as a pulse that happens at very consistent intervals. Neutron stars are located this way all the time. So why is this one inexplicable? Neutron stars normally spin pretty fast; the slowest ones will pulse every few seconds. Nobody's ever seen one that spins slowly enough to have the interval of almost one minute that this new discovery has. The pulses of a neutron star are also really consistent and haven't been observed with the changing pattern observed in this signal. Those two facts are why the astrophysicists are all excited. Because it's confusing, and confusing space things tend to lead to cool new discoveries about how the universe is put together. Is it a neutron star spinning freakishly slowly for some reason, with some wild electromagnetic phenomenon messing with the poles? Is it a regular neutron star but it's being obstructed by objects orbiting it? Is its spin wobbly because there's another really massive thing nearby messing with it? Is it drunk? Is it breakdancing? They don't know, but they're gonna find out. *tl;dr* Not aliens. Probably a neutron star that's fucking with us for giggles, because the universe doesn't care if we understand it. We're still gonna try, though! Buzzkill completed! Okay byyyyeeeee~

As an old man (¿Is 79 old?), I sleep on the floor. As a reminder of my youth: I spent a lot of time tent camping sleeping on the ground. As a comfort in my present: getting up off the floor unassisted 5 or 6 times a day reduces my fear of falling. I recently fell in the park. Three people came to help me up. I asked them to watch my first attempt to get up. If I had success, they could go their ways with my thanks. If I failed, I would accept help.

When i was a kid, I'd sometimes lay on the floor and stare up at the ceiling, just relaxing. It was even more calming than laying on my bed doing the samd thing. There have been plenty of studies on this topic, so I'm not sure shy it's only making headline news now. Regardless, i highly recommend laying on the floor often, unless you have a medical condition that would worsen if you do, of course.
