I've heard some people say that Simon and Garfunkel's rendition was a warning, urging people to see the danger, that Disturbed's cover was an angry reprimand for failing to heed it the first time, and now I think this version could be seen as a lament that no one listened in the end.

I've always thought of it as the unrealized dreams and talents of people who either don't or can't express their "song"; "...people writing songs that voices never share" being the line that brings that image to mind for me. It seems to imply that they are unwilling to risk breaking the silence (the status quo) or unable to because they don't have the means. The imagery of our society falling prey to this on a larger scale is what I was referring to in my original post.

@themysterious52335 жыл бұрын
@@jonaslinder8390 It happened right at the end. For some people it might look like just wanted to end the song with a weaker voice but that note is a bit to high for him and he can only reach that note by using a lighter note (a weaker voice). If a note is to high for you and you force it your voice will end up cracking. Teens crack their voices because their voice is changing and their range is shifting to lower notes. Falsetto is a workaround.

If Paul Simon's version was a warning, what the heck did we end up like this for the next 54 years. It took Disturbed's homage to the song and their own style but they didn't go freaking heavy metal, grating electric guitars and drums shaking the floor. Disturbed made that song come alive after 54 years of sitting on the shelf. I don't think I would listen to this version more than a few times and then I would move on. Pentatonix was the same way. 5 people singing different and you end up comparing one to the next. They have too much vocal clutter. They wear me out listening to them. I like acapella but there are too many of them. Disturbed's version went to #1 everywhere. 7 years later folks are still reacting and people are still commenting. Good job, Disturbed, and good job to other folks who try it also.

Let me preface this by saying I loved Draiman's cover, it was strong and evocative. Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone 'Neath the halo of a street lamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never share No one dared Disturb the sound of silence "Fools" said I, "You do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you" But my words like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the wells of silence And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming And the sign said, "The words of the prophets Are written on the subway walls And tenement halls" And whispered in the sounds of silence

Technically speaking, no one has ever heard the sound of silence, as there are sounds either too high frequency or too low frequency to be heard or just simply too quiet for our ears to register. So, no. It is not the true sound of silence.(yes. I am doing my best to kill the joke)

@barbaraheilman321 Жыл бұрын
I think it is easier to build upon something that someone else put a lot of work into and you just add more little finishing touches. I can't tell you how many variations of the Disturbed version that have show up from everywhere. They are not using S&G folk song, they are using Disturbed's cover. David's band came up with that new and interesting cover of S&G's sound. It has been around since 1964 and nobody seemed to change it from S&G folk song style. But when Disturbed came into the picture, all the groups now want to use HIS version. Quite a compliment, I would say. These versions don't have to compete. They all stand on their own and make the listening more varied and still all have the same words.

Every time i hear this song, it reminds me of my past, how dark it was, the people I've lost who i loved dearly, the battles I've faced, and the sound of silence that comes after all that, the silence that speaks volumes, proud of how far I've come without giving up no matter how hard things got for me. I came into this world as a pup not knowing what the hell i was doing, grew old as a hardened wolf shot by many arrows of life and still standing tall and strong. This, this song although dark, is pleasant to my ears.
