Expert harpists are few and usually, they are heard in orchestras. Probably because harps are expensive and with most other instruments a perfectly serviceable inexpensive version can be bought for children or beginners to learn on. I never really thought they were used as solo instruments until I found the Naomi and the Harp Twins here on KZbin.

Thank you for this amazing instrumental 👏👏 'The sound of Silence' is about Sanford Greenberg, Art Garfunkel's roomate and best friend at Columbia university, who lost his vision. According to Greenberg, the song was a tribute to his strong bond with Garfunkel and the latter’s sacrifice, which ended up providing comfort to Greenberg when he lost his sight. Greenberg and Garfunkel met in their first week at Columbia University. It was Garfunkel who initiated the contact, coming over to say “Hi.” Soon, the two became roommates and found that they shared a common interest in music and poetry. The two young men made a pact to always be there for each other when faced with trouble. Just months later, Greenberg lost his sight. He was watching a baseball game when he experienced his vision becoming cloudy. Soon, he could only see darkness. Though the doctors diagnosed that he was suffering from conjunctivitis and the blindness would soon pass, it did not. It was later found that glaucoma had destroyed Greenberg’s optic nerves. Since Greenberg came from a simple home, his family did not have the money to help him out. As such, the young man dropped out of college. Psychologically, he was intensely depressed. Greenberg stopped talking to people and isolated himself. It was then that Garfunkel came to him and talked Greenberg into going back to Columbia. After much insistence from his friend, Greenberg agreed and enrolled in the university once more. In college, Greenberg was completely dependent on his friend. And Garfunkel changed his life at the university to accommodate his blind friend, helping him walk to class, tending to wounds, walking together in the city, filling out forms for him, and so on. Garfunkel called himself “Darkness” when he was around Greenberg, a sign of empathy toward his friend. One day, Garfunkel told his friend at Grand Central Station that he had to immediately leave for an assignment. Suddenly, Greenberg was left alone in the crowd, completely terrified and not knowing what to do. He somehow managed to get back to the university, bumping into people and things. Greenberg calls it “the worst couple of hours in my life.” At the university, Greenberg bumped into a man who apologized to him. He recognized the voice - it was his friend who had just left a few hours back for an “urgent assignment.” In fact, Garfunkel had never left Greenberg’s side. He merely lied about it and followed his friend all the way back to the university. Garfunkel wanted Greenberg to realize that he could only be independent when he was truly in charge of his life. It worked and Greenberg became more confident about relying on himself. The two friends graduated from college and went their separate ways. Music truly speaks the language of the soul 🎵 ❤

even when a person passed away, all the things he did, all the things he liked doing, all the love you have shared, had converted into memories in your mind. No one can ever take that away from you. Music can, I think, confuse an animal - I was once practicing my drumming on a pad (which just made clicking sounds) in a park at night and a fox appeared out of the night and crept up to me as I played. I could see by the way it moved its head that it was trying to work out what it was looking at, I think it was unsure whether I was human or something else, like a machine, as I was tapping all my limbs to that set rhythm. It got much closer than it would normally, similar to the deer in the other video. Personally, I feel they are confused by what they are hearing and seeing, because it is not immediately scary but at the same time not entirely natural... and yet it has elements of natural sound, like birdsong.

Idk if you read comments, but thank you for this. This gave me the release need. I just starting bursting to tears while listening. Ive been suffering, and before watching this, I felt like Im losing my mind. I wanted to end it all. I dont want it here anymore. Your cover gave me some time to relax. And it actually made me cry. I know I sound cheesy, but if you need more motivation to make these, here is one.

Each day when you can take a bucket that makes noise with corn shaking in the bottom of it dump it out behind you and then begin playing. The deer will associate the beautiful music with a nice little snack and within a few years you will have a herd right behind you to watch you play. My mom began with a wild herd would frisbee a slice of bread or three over the fence then walk back in the house the deer would come. Then she would stand on the porch and throw the bread and the deer would come then she would stand at the fence and throw the bread and stand there, and the deer would come within two years, she had them eating out of her hand. It takes time but it's so beautiful to watch. Your music added to it would be absolutely awesome❤❤

My dear aunt, God rests her soul, was a music major in college. The stand up harp was HER instrument. She could make that thing T-A-L-K! I was 21 years in age in 1967, and that's when I first seen her play it in church. I was totally mesmerized hearing and seeing her play it. Every time I hear someone play the harp, I think about my aunt. Today 7/18/2023, I am still hearing Auntie play her harp!

Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence In restless dreams, I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone 'Neath the halo of a street lamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence And in the naked light, I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never shared And no one dared Disturb the sound of silence "Fools" said I, "You do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you" But my words, like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the wells of silence And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming Then the sign said, "The words on the prophets are written on the subway walls In tenement halls" And whispered in the sound of silence
