I'm guessing you've never played under real pressure. $500 a game against someone who's as good as you..? Or in the finals of something massive..? Of course you have. No one on the internet would ever say something with a complete and utter lack of empathy, on both sides. 🤣 For the record, I'm a huge fan of Shanes. I have video of him up on my channel even. But if you don't understand what others are talking about, don't comment on it.

I never knew Shane was deaf, but I always loved watching him play and he's always been one of my favourites. Shane, Efren, Earl, and Bustamante. He's always respectful and kind to his opponents and that's pretty badass. Like he said, if you think being deaf is an advantage then you can put earplugs in your ears and be just like him. A lot of people take hearing for granted. They take a lot of things for granted. I can type but can't talk normally, but I don't let that stop me from doing what I love either.

As a future cueist from Sabah, Malaysia (who loves billiards since childhood), I'm glad to consider Shane Van Boening as my idol since this year! While I do envy his privileges of growing up in a billiard hall since he was a little boy (because his granddad owns several billiard halls, and that both his grandmom and his mom are professional cueists themselves), I still admire his dedication for the sport, thanks to his family! One more reason of why I totally admire him is that when he comes to play (especially at the Mosconi Cup), the "American pride" is very high (although not as high as when the late Muhammad Ali was still alive) and he's also the only current cueist I can rely on, ever since Efren Reyes stopped playing billiards in 2019! 😎

I’ll brag about this story till the day I’m dead. Was at a local place called “main event” in my home town. It’s sort of an arcade/bowling family fun type of place that also happens to have pool tables which I shoot on quite often. I go up to pay for the table as usual and I happen to glance over as Shane fuckin van boening is just casually walking out of the restroom right past me. I thought wow that guy looks like SVB and he walks so close to me that I actually can see his hearing aid. I call out , Shane? And he stops and looks at me and in this moment it’s confirmed I’m face to face with my favorite pool player of all time. I go complete fan boy mode lmao “holy shit your SVB” he just looks at me and smiles and nods his head yes. I tell him I can’t believe he’s standing In front of me right now and that he’s literally my favorite player and how much I have learned from watching his videos and he’s just the coolest nicest dude in the world. He had just recently lost the world 9 ball championship to Ko pin yi and Like a total idiot I brought it up and told him that I was so sorry for his recent defeat in the world 9 ball championship match. Probably the last thing he wanted to be reminded about but he just humbly smiled and thanked me and even allowed me to take a picture wit him. Shane is absolute pure class man.

In "Good Will Hunting" Matt Damon whips out the answer to an impossible problem in a matter of seconds. Asked "How do you do that??" he answers: "I look at it and it just all makes sense to me". That is genius and SVB (as well as Earl) are pool geniuses. Mozarts of the pool table.Now Earl has commented that he gets irritated when he's called a natural talent, because it could imply that he doesn't have to work to be great. SVB and Earl have both developed their God-given talent to become greats in the field of pocket billiards.

Kids learn how to speak and understand language up until about age 7, after that the brain chemistry changes and it's MUCH more difficult to pick up and understand languages. I don't know when Shane started wearing hearing aids but he definitely lost a very large part of this crucial time to learn and understand English. And even after he started wearing his hearing aids he didn't hear well at all so during this time he learned much more slowly than non hearing impaired children. Most if not all the other professional players are constantly talking with each other about the finer aspects of the game while Shane misses out of a large part of those conversations. He became one of the greatest pool players in history almost completely by watching intently those who were better than him and emulating them. The other players who complained when he turned off his hearing aids during matches I do not believe understand the hurdles Shane had to overcome (that they didn't) to get to the level that they play on. If they did they wouldn't have an issue with it. And I find it funny to think that if Shane turns off his hearing aids during a match, who would know ? Do the referees constantly check to see that they are turned on ?

@dougcarson52026 жыл бұрын
He did. I've seen the match on KZbin where he does this. He even goes as far as saying, " I wish I was deaf." Typical Earl.
@marshalcraft5 жыл бұрын
I think it helps to see why Earl is saying that, hearing snarky comments, laughing at missed shots, scratches when you are putting everything you have is distracting and aggravating. Earl might actually be the opposite, where he is hyper-sensitive to everything the crowd, players on other tables, etc are doing saying and has trouble drowning that out. Basically it's easy to pick out Earl and hate on him. I've never actually heard Earl make a purposeful, disrespectful remark. He just complains and is himself irritated.
@marshalcraft5 жыл бұрын
That said Earl should see that is a terrible argument to make, to argue it is unfair. At the end of the day Pool is about hand eye coordination, and what not and for him to try and Exclude a hearing impaired person from playing especially one so talented as to be possibly the best player in the world, is terrible. It's one thing to comment on distractions, and focus but for anyone to continue on with it to exclude players that are better then them it's sad, but just what you probably can expect from some pool players. They play the games off the table instead of pool. And I think that gets at SVB, Earl, and everyone and turns decent pool players against one another.
@dougcarson52025 жыл бұрын
@Justin Bryson I don't Earl really meant it, either. He just has a tendency to blurt out stuff like that. I like Earl, too. Love his story about immediately falling in love with pool when his dad first showed him the game. I had similar reaction the first time I saw a pool table at my neighbor's house when I was a small kid. It's a passion.

Just wait till you deal with them when they're losing ... or when you have a critical shot."_ And he was right. You might be able to figure out the two people I'm talking about. I like both of them, but their public image isn't exactly accurate. On the other hand, Shane..? Is a true gentleman. I've seen him pissed at himself. Shane didn't get good at pool because he's partially def. He got by playing in a lot of tournaments and practicing. he probably has a slight advantage in being able to focus in on the rack infront of him without hearing any of the B.S. around him. But noise distraction is only a small aspect of pool so I don't think it's an unfair advantage. He still has to deal with visual distractions. He has to deal with his own mental game. He has to play the freaking game still, being partially def doesn't magically put 10 ball packages on people. LOL get over it
@owenmonast95828 жыл бұрын
Yeah I see what you mean. If your not hearing impaired and your focused on a rack, you could easily completely acknowledge the outside noise as if there was none. That's what pro baseball players do so they don't get distracted
