in my opinion, books with real paper pages are way better than iPad screens before bedtime... it's just an experience that cannot be replaced by screens
@heartofthewild680
@heartofthewild680 3 жыл бұрын
There is science to back that up, actually. Your brain interprets the light from the screens as daylight, which tricks it into thinking it’s daytime and makes it harder for you to fall asleep.

You're not wrong! But it is nice to not have a flashlight too. My baby is 9 mos & hates that she can't help turn pages yet so bedtime story is read as fast as you can and help her turn the pages, lol! Looking forward to chapter books like the Hobbit when she's a bit older and doing a chapter a night!

Y'all brought back memories of my Grandmother's house at Christmas in the 1960's. We cousins loved to see how many of us could gram under her huge (to us) 8 feet dining room table to sleep because she only had 2 bedrooms.. Some of the teen boys slept on her small screened in back porch with a small stove because Christmas in Texas is not always cold. Most of the adults were "loaned" out to her neighbor's spare bedrooms. We kids got to stay put. Simply magical! Thanks for the memories.

All those Christmas goodies were the best part of the holidays. My mom used to make the best coconut cake. 4 layers of yellow or white cake (2 layers split in half, box or homemade). The coconut filling was 2 cups of granulated sugar mixed with 2 cups of sour cream. Mix in a bag of frozen shredded coconut. Fill and top the cake with the coconut mixture and let it sit in the fridge for 3-4 days. It was a Christmas favorite because it was usually cold enough to put it in a Tupperware cake carriers and set it in the garage. The filling soaks into the cake and is sooo good. You can also make it as a sheet cake, but it’s prettier in layers.

@tonibauer2949 3 жыл бұрын
Sally Phillips yes, it surely was in 93. You never saw such a bunch of shocked South Georgians. I actually moved to the Seattle area in 1996, and thought there would be lots of snow every winter as we are so far north. But having so much Pacific Ocean water around us means the winters are generally pretty mild. We can get a few flakes, a blizzard that shuts down everything, or something in between. Last year we didn’t have more than a light sprinkle, but then, we very oddly got one this year in October which I have t seen here before. Hoping you and yours have a good Thanksgiving and stay safe and healthy.

Also instead of Santa, we call him Papa Noel. Atleast the South does. North Louisiana (where I'm from) call him Santa

We lived in the South for 15 years. I remember putting on the air conditioner in winter so we could have a fire in the fireplace and not get too hot. LOL!

Sounds so, much like my grandma’s house, there was so many cousins and, lots of food and countless pecan pies. Every year, we had pecan pie at grandma’s house and, I was one of those few people that always got a pecan pie to take home with me. So, once my grandma couldn’t do it, my mom knew she had to make me a whole pecan pie to take home. Pecan pie with a big tall glass of eggnog. I love sweet tea but, at Christmas, I prefer eggnog to wash down my pecan pie. That Southern Comfort is the best eggnog!

While I'm a northern with southern roots, my parents are from North Carolina and Mississippi so I grew up hearing y'all. Most people don't know where we're from, they always think we are visiting from somewhere else. 😂

That was quite a nice story. It brought back memories when you referred to all the cousins on the floor. I'm a 70 y/o Yankee from Buffalo, NY, of Polish & German decent, so I guess were not too different from North and South. Oh replace the Pecan pie with a Pumpkin pie, ha ha.
