I hope for more Spacing Guild since they are the technical "bad guy" in the whole thing. The Imperium isn't the Imperium until the Guild. The Guild enslaves humanity in a new prison that they just freed themselves from by escaping Thinking Machines. It is the addiction to space travel that is more powerful than the Spice Melange. The withdrawal from spice kills a man. The withdrawal from space travel kills all humanity.

Given the current Hollywood climate, I'm willing to bet a story about the Bene Gesserit *~Sisterhood~* is a much easier sell than something like the Butlerian Jihad and/or the establishment of the Guild/mentats etc. Even if the Showrunners don't use it to shove The Message in our faces. Hollywood execs after hearing the pitch for the Butlerian Jihad: _"Butler jihad? Sounds like a toxically masculine, islamophobic, Terminator rip-off. These Benny Jesuit sisters on the other hand...[something about a coven of space witches putting the patriarchy in its place]"_

Yeah I’ve been annoyed with this as well. The Spacing Guild are possibly the most mysterious and interesting aspect of the Dune universe and part 1 barely touched on it and part 2 completely ignored it. Hopefully we get to see some more of them in Prophecy but if not, I guess we will have to wait for Dune Messiah, because they play a pretty vital role in Messiah. Especially with Edric being one of the main antagonist and it simply can’t be avoided like in part 1 and 2.

Spacing guild is absolutely crutial. In the movie from 1984 we see that navigators are not afraid of emperor at all. They tel him what to do. Just like a hidden power behind the throne. Similar like benegeserit but different in thier ways.

Prior to the Holtzman drive, humanity did have "traditional" FTL travel, but it took days, weeks or even months to get anywhere and was still the main form of interstellar travel after the Holtzman drive was invented due to the unlifing issues with space folding. The navigators shifted that paradigm though. Well according the the BH/KJA cannon anyway.

While it seems the majority of Dune fans dislike the expanded Dune universe of Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, I think there are some parts of their timeline that could be introduced in a prequel. It's been a while since I read their prequel novels, but I remember that the story of the first Reverend Mother Raquella Berto-Anirul and her changing the chemical poisons found on the Sorceress' planet Rossak to become the first true Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother to be very interesting. Also, the concealing of computers from Jihadist fanatics by the early Bene Gesserit in order to track and maintain the bloodline records they needed for their quest to create the Kwisatz Haderach was good. If I remember correctly the early Corrino Emperor was egged on by the Jihadists to raid Rossak to look for the illegal computers and in defending their homeland the last Sorceresses were wiped out. In Dune Wiki it notes: Raquella was remembered and revered long thereafter. Indeed, 10 millennia later, Raquella's distant descendant, the Kwisatz Mother Anirul Sadow Tonkin, was named after her...Lady Anirul Corrino, born as Anirul Sadow Tonkin, was a Bene Gesserit of Hidden Rank who married Shaddam Corrino IV, the 81st Padishah Emperor of the Known Universe. As such, she was the mother of Princess Irulan Corrino and the grandmother of Prince Farad'n Corrino.

I think the issue is probably more with the quality of writing/storytelling and certain elements than the expanded universe as a whole. Kevin J. Anderson is a decent author for telling stories in the SW universe, but even then, they're kinda mid.

I liked the concepts for the BH KJA books like the titans, the cymechs and Erasmus and would love to see that depicted. I could see them really trying to do the Butlarian jihad as a game of thrones type series, especially when you have events like the flying baby

I can't agree. Erasmus and a few other characters and situations were interesting, but too much was changed from Frank Herbert's original ideas. Cymeks were the primary, but not the only, corruption of the original idea that it was the overuse and reliance on computers to do the thinking, not robots with human brains running amok.

Unfortunately I also can’t agree after reading the Dune Encyclopedia by Frank Herbert. There’s zero mention of Omnious or Erasmus in its references to the Butlerian Jihad. I’d really prefer that they moved the original story beyond the first book and get into the far more interesting story into the God Emperor era and beyond into the Frank Herbert version of the Bene Gesserit in Heretics and Chapterhouse. Alas, it’s probably best that no one in any modern studio is considering it though given the obvious decline in proper adaptations lately.

@@PhasersAndArrows Frank didn’t write the dune encyclopedia, and even the original 6 books makes the encyclopedia non-canon. And yeah the butlarian jihad might have been philosophical, but that shouldn’t have lead to a complete ban on computers unless there was an actual massive war

You can't tell the story of the Benegesserit without telling the story of the rest of Dune's politics. That includes the houses and the mentats. And it gives the makers a chance to show why Paul is different from the Benegesserit because he's ALSO a mentat.

Yeah, show me elements I haven't seen before. Show me Ix, show me the Landsraad. Show me intrigue involving Houses conspiring with the Guild. I think that's why the Salusa Secundus scene stood out for people, because a few minutes of world building gave us a plethora of details.

My guess is that they'll hold off 'unveiling' the Spacing Guild navigators for the third Dune movie. But I think we could have multiple Dune TV shows, so one about the Bene Gesserit, another about the Spacing Guild, another from the Ixian point of view maybe? I suspect the Bene Tleilaxu would always be an outside force, so never seeing the universe from their perspective, but I could be wrong.

The Spacing Guild Navigators could be tricky to do based on the grounded visuals of the Dune movies. I hope to see them on the screen... and not as drastically goofy as the 1984 movie... LOL!

There's a ton of material to cover in everything that leads up to AG so you must cover the Guild. You can't tell the story of the Matriarchy without also telling the story of the Patriarchy, as that's what they both truly represent.

Seems to me like a big opportunity has been missed to just do the obvious, no-brainer story -- the frickin Butlerian Jihad. I don't know, maybe that would have been prohibitively expensive. Maybe we'll get that if this series is wildly successful -- a bit improbable, I think.

The preview shots that I've seen, include a character with blue in blue eyes... so SOMEBODY has discovered Spice already, in the show. Edit: I forgot, there is a heavy element of past/present/future, involved in the series, bouncing around between them, showing the Harkonnen sister's history, and prescient visions... so it doesn't have to take place like this in the series, sadly.

Are they focusing on the Brian Herbert extended dune books or are they going in their own direction with this??? The Spacing Guild is the most powerful player in The Imperium. Maybe the only group that wields more power than the Bene Gesserit-And it’s mostly men. Which can be used to show the sex split in the Dune Universe. Their differing viewpoints and philosophy to existence. If Dune Prophecy neglects players like House Corrino, CHOAM, the Bene Tleilaxu, and the Ixians-I’ll be pissed.

Dune Prophecy will only show viewers Atreides or Harokannens because they are the only thing really going on in a galaxy wide civilization with 1000s of years of history. Everything else is just background noise in this ancient feud between 2 midling soso planetary houses. And, its completely plausible that in 10,000 years, that the 2 houses never, ever, ever, find a way to put the past behind them and agree to if not friendship, then mutual respect at a minimum. But a 10k year ongoing feud over an ancient slight I guess is more important for all involved. I mean even with extended lifespans, you'd think events that long ago would have faded from memory, and relevance.

While that slight was the START of the conflict between the houses, it was by no means a 10,000yr grudge based only on that. The Harkonnen style of rulership was evil. How they treated their subjects was cruel and unusual. It is related that the Atreides rescued slaves from their captivity, at least once, but given their moral standing, I must assume they had been doing this for the entire time. Basically, the feud was on-going, for reasons beyond that first event - and it is amplified when you see the comparison with how they each ruled (or would have ruled) Dune.

While I do think it makes sense to spend time with the Corino I don't think they should be that prevalent, here me out, the BG is a new organization, they probably have at most 2 o 3 reverent mothers a that time, little to no political power, not many acolytes to spread for political machinations so they'll have to be more secluded, maybe even just showing themselves as a new cult and how that perception affects others treatment. For this 1st season I actually think it'll better to focus just on the BG with hints at a larger scales but not outright acknowledge it till the finale =) I think is better to slowly expand the world season by season than shove it in to your throat at once. Yes I know it can get cancel after just one season but a prefer have one good season with solid writing than a convoluted one.
