I love the Spanish Coffee. There's really just one cocktail from Oregon that's known all over - mainly just in Oregon and Southern Washington, and that's Huber's Café's Spanish Coffee.
I spent a lot of time sitting at the bar at Huber's when I first moved to Portland, just watching the bartenders and making mental notes of the recipe as I watched their pours and their technique.
This is a great drink, especially for this time of year. I hope you'll take a moment sometime and try to make this one at home or at your bar.

SPANISH COFFEE
¾ oz 151 proof rum
¼ oz triple sec or Cointreau
1½ oz Kahlua
hot coffee
lightly whipped heavy cream

As someone who comes from a family of teetotalers I've only been introduced to alcohol in my 20s. This was blew my mind. What a graceful job with that flame. 👏❤

I'm seeing this one very late, but I recognize that black backdrop with the clairin and Hampden boxes on top. Love Jordan's videos, and he and Jeffrey working together on this is so cool!

We have a very similar coffee drink here in Europe called Calypso Coffee, it also uses dark or 151 rum, and either coffee liqueur or dark creme de cacao. It omits the orange liqueur. I prefer it with the creme de cacao.

We always take visitors from out of town to Huber’s for the Spanish coffee and turkey dinner. In addition to this being a great drink, their tableside presentation with long pours is incredibly entertaining. Love that place!

Hi Jeffrey, I have heard your name many, many times from other KZbin bartenders. So I was delighted to see this recipe and noted it exactly. Now enjoying my second Spanish Coffee made exactly to your recipe. My first a couple of days ago was made with Mr Black coffee liqueur. Today it is with Kahlua and much better. I have the perfect glass for it too. A pair of Swedish, Gaelic Coffee glasses in a metal decorative holder. Stood the flame heat of the 151. Nick from York

I'm sorry, I was told by a certain famous bartender that I am supposed to use a 30 second french press coffee brew. This coffee is too well extracted. Joking aside, lately I started making it with Gran Marnier instead of Cointreau or Clemente Rum Agricole. The extra brandyness hits a spot.

Thank you, looks excellent, wanna try this one. Would you trust the flame in glassware of unknown origin, know of any mishaps with cheap glass? The orange makes me wanna also try a Belgian vibe and sub a little of the Kahlúa with a splash of cacao.

Yeah I’ve had plenty of mishaps with cheap or untempered glass. Be careful!

I have to imagine once I make one of these I’m going to get 6 more orders in. Can you flame a whole line up and get the rims to caramelize, or do you really have to baby the glasses to keep the flame rotating?

I’ve tried it and I really recommend rotating. I can do two at a time (one in each hand) but that’s my maximum at work.

Yes you are right! Had one a few weeks ago & told the bartender when people see you making this they are going to want one as well. Especially on a cold icy day. 😋 He made a few more that night. His first time making them.

Wow, wow, wow - that looks amazing! Is Kahlua key to this or would Mr. Black's or Koloa Kauai work just as well?

I haven't tried it with either, I'm afraid. Since the original uses Kahlua, that's what we use at my bar as well.

Looks incredible Jeff! Question, with the espresso and flaming the sugar does it not take ages to make this drink in a busy bar?

Not sure where you're seeing espresso, but we make hot coffee every few hours and store it in a vacuum pot. Takes an extra minute to caramelize the sugar but it's not that bad.

Does your glass get really hot during the burning? I would kind of assume so, but I could just see that being a part people don't realize and starts getting hot and they drop it.

It does, but once the drink is finished it's perfectly manageable.
