Women need to be included if the video's title is generic. Otherwise put 'Male' or 'Men' in the title

Love this video man! I’d agree with all your picks! 2 additional thoughts. Engine is a tough thing for everyone to agree on a definition. If your definition of Engine is: who is the best at workouts that have multiple movements of different modalities and patterns without a very heavy weight or very high skill. Then yes I’d agree that Vellner is the best. Gymnastics: Defining who is the best at gymnastics is actually really hard to do for a few reasons. Just looking at Games results is tough because other than the HSW workouts most workouts at the Games that have gymnastics movements include another element that is VERY important like a long run or a heavy object. There are more workouts at the games where the specialists excel if they’re great at: barbell, odd object, running, machines, etc. another reason it’s tough to pick the best gymnastic athletes is all the gymnastics movements are so different. the best athletes at handstand push-ups, pull-ups and burpees… are often not the same that are good at high box jumps, hs walks, 20ft rope climbs. I’d argue Noah Ohlsen might be the best male Games athlete ever at ‘gymnastics’ as a broad category. However he isn’t competing as an individual this year so he doesn’t fit your criteria

Really good breakdown. Most recent example of a specialist that I can't fully get my head around is Olivia Kerstetter's snatch performance at semi-finals. She is so far ahead of everyone else on that workout I can't really fathom. A true outlier especially given her overall snatch is not that much heavier than others. Olivia completed the workout in 03:58. For context the next closest worldwide was Elisa Fuliano 5:01and then Tia 05:02. Gui on the men's side was the closest overall at 04:43. Completely crazy separation from the field.

Absolutely loved the numbers driven analysis! Fantastic work. And really insightful. I would like to raise a few points that contradict, offer nuance, or simply add on to the ones you touched on. First is the squat domain. The guy's short stature and short legs is acknowledged but imho brushed aside a little too easily. Yes he's very strong and repping those numbers is mind blowing no matter how you spin it, but his leverages really are a HUGE advantage here. Second, in the odd objects, being taller really doesn't automatically make you good at those. I think the skill component is far more important. And third, the overhead mobility. And yes, as the category suggests, mobility is definitely an important component. But again, so are leverages. As an example, a less mobile athlete with short legs and a long torso will have it easier than a more mobile athlete with long legs and a short torso and arms. Anyway, it might feel like I'm picking on you so I just want to reiiterate that I think you did an excellent job 👏

Vellner and Fikowski should at least get a mention in IQ. Both are unreal at pacing and anticipating how to approach workouts. Did them a little dirty there.

@simonreilly213 You make a good point here about the Professor and Vellner. Completely agree with you that they put a lot of emphasis on workout approach and execution of a workout. Maybe we should have reworded this category to convey a different sort of IQ range that’s related more toward the nuances of the workout details and not necessarily the workout/movements and how to break them up efficiently for maximized performance- what do you think?

Can anyone explain how Justin's strict press and bb bench press numbers are relatively low, given he has the best overall overhead/shoulder stability? At the 2020 games, his max strict press was the lowest(in the field of 5) at 175, with the second lowest being 205 And in Dec 2023 at a powerlifting meet, his max bb bench was 303, which I'm guessing would be in the bottom half of games athletes Is his wingspan disproportionately long for his height? Or is it a case of strict deficit handstand and Horvath, where despite training the weakness there is something anatomically that limits, relative to other athletes, him in a strict overhead press movement? I understand that overhead stability is a separate thing to a strict overhead press but you'd almost think they would be more related than Justin's numbers indicate. As always, the content is top notch! Keep it coming!

@Fikowski 3 ай бұрын
Straight arm stability is different to pressing. Stability in movements like the overhead squat or handstand walk require good flexibility with all the joints in a straight line and the elbows remain straight . Pressing required flexion and extension of the elbow and shoulder joints. An extreme comparison: someone could be very good at balancing with a single straight leg on a bosu ball or slack line, but they might not be good at performing repetitive fast pistols.

Interesting video. Being above average height definitely helps with odd objects. That height is also associated with longer arms to help wrap around sandbags and larger hands for grip.

I would agree that Fikowski does have a top tier IQ for this sport and does his homework on how to maximize his workout outcome based on the movements, time domains, etc. But everyone else also is actively doing this based on their abilities and Justin is doing this AND also taking advantage of intricate details of the workout that others are not always doing. You have any examples of Fikowski that we can take a look at for next time?
