I have been getting lots of questions from people who could not find a reasonably priced treadmill motor choke. They have turned to electronics suppliers looking for a choke but didn't understand the specifications required to pick the correct one and asked if I could help. This video discusses everything you need to know to pick a motor choke.

Just adding an additional statement of gratitude for your willingness to take time to educate total strangers. Seriously, thank you.

I spent the last couple weeks watching all your treadmill motor related videos from the past couple years. Now I have a good understanding of how each part works in the setup, whether I need them in my application and how to wire everything properly. I CAN'T thank you enough for providing these "video gems"... just waiting for my Amazon orders to arrive so I can start hooking everything up :)

Appreciate the video and others that you have made. Have disassembled two basic treadmills saving motor and controller. One 'system' was used to vary speed on small Grizzly band saw to allow me to cut both wood and metal comfortably. My observation is that the chokes I see on the OEM circuit board seem to be closer in size to the small one that you started with. Would anything be gained if I were to solder in a larger choke or do you think that the sparking issue you mention is administrated by the configuration of different component on the OEM circuit board. Don't want to complicate your presentation, mostly curious. Thanks for sharing all your ideas and experiences.

Found a choke after considerable searching that matched the one in early videos. Unfortunately I've not had time to build anything. Maybe? LOL!

Did the large motor choke come out of a treadmill?

A choke looks a lot like a transformer. I just took a transformer out of a microwave so that I can make a spot welder and it is huge! I wonder if a microwave transformer can be used as a giant choke by simply disconnecting and ignoring the secondary coil? I really don't know enough about this stuff but I thought I would throw that out there in case it provides a source of chokes that otherwise, i imagine, would be quite expensive.
