I’m ngl I was kind of annoyed when this won over Ben 10 but I forgot just how great this show was. Easily a top 5 cartoon of all time right up there with gravity falls for me.

So, some fun facts from the comics: Silver Sable obviously is easily one of the most changed characters from comics to cartoon. The games version of her is pretty much spot-on. She is a high-ranking leader of a fictional East-European country called Symkaria, which finances itself almost entirely through its mercenary contracts all around the world and has specialised its armed forces to be these very effective warriors. Sable is one of those and leads a mercenary group called the Wild Pack. Hammerhead is actually in my opinion the villain with the dumbest supervillain backstory ever. Essentially, he was just some random guy whose name we never found out that was smashed into a wall face-first. He had amnesia before some super-scientist took him in and gave him his metal-sheeted skull-fix. Hammerhead's last and only memory after waking up was that of being smashed into the wall, which was covered by a film poster for a mafia movie. Which he now became obsessed with and turned into his entire personality. Frederick Foswell is another character strongly changed from the comics. He was actually a villain way back in the Stan Lee days of Spider-Man: A journalist working for JJJ, who was secretly also the very same criminal mob-boss that he was investigating, called "the Big Man" (which is instead Tombstone in this series). Foswell was found out, went to prison, was released and actually given a second chance by Jonah, which he was so thankful for, that when some villain-of-the-month tried to assassinate JJJ for whatever reason, Foswell jumped in front and took the bullet. Obviously, none of this at all is gonna make it into this series. Roderick Kingsley in the comics was introduced actually back somewhere during issue 50 or so of Spectatcular Spider-Man (the comic series from the 70s); when writer Bill Mantlo went away for a bit and Roger Stern took over for around 10 to 20 issues. One of the first things he did was a storyline about a villain called "Madam Belladonna" (not to be confused with an X-Men villain). Belladonna was a fashion icon who had been put out of business by Kingsley, who had used industrial espionage and spread rumors about her. That, as well as other predatory business practices had allowed him to build up his own fashion business empire. Spider-Man saved Kingsley, but he still showed up as a background character every once in a while, playing a role comparable to the one Norman Osborn played before he was revealed as the Goblin - "shady rich douchebag with maybe-connections to crime". Belladonna used poisonous dust, chemicals and gas in her first appearances alongside Kingsley, to fight against Spider-Man, and this seems to have been the reason why this series changed Kingsley from a fashion to a cosmetics guy. Anyway: Roger Stern was ALSO responsible for one of the longest running story-arcs of the era: The Hobgoblin. After the death of Norman Osborn, the Green Goblin in the early seventies (he would only return in the Nineties); Marvel struggled to find a replacement "main villain" for the comics. First they tried the Jackal, then Harry Osborn and finally the Hobgoblin - a mysterious criminal finds Green Goblin's hideout and tech, and starts using it to become a major gang leader, showing up every once in a while trying to steal more Goblin stuff, trying to assassinate SPider-Man or doing various schemes to take over the NYC Crime Scene. He was a pretty effective villain and sold a lot of comics. His main "Gimmick" was that he would be captured and unmasked, only to reveal that at some point in the story, the REAL Hobgoblin had made off and a brain-washed goon of his had taken over the role. However, the mystery story-line about who the Hobgoblin actually was failed because of behind-the-scenes drama. There is a video on this stuff by ComicTropes that explains all of the back and forth between rivalling ideas and story plans. Anyway, the short version is this: Stern left the project before he was able to reveal the Hobgoblin's identity, and the new author, Tom DeFalco continued the plans with some changes. The original intention of Stern, as revealed 20 years later in a miniseries called "Hobgoblin Lives" was for Roderick Kingsley to have been the HObgoblin, which he now technically was retconned to have secretly been "all along". So that's what Kingsley is known for today. Whatever Stern's original plans had been, they hinged on Kingsley having a false alibi for his crimes due to his mentally challenged and cowardly twin brother taking his place in public sometimes. Some people think that in this series, the secret twin brother thing is how Kingsley goes so suddenly from smug to terrified in this episode, and how he managed to sneak off the Rhino specs without anyone noticing.

Also the sheer amount of work required to animate that sequence, where they have to also keep track of all the minutia. They even remember the torn shirt on hammerhead when Sable steps on him in a later moment. The animation and directing team did an amazing job.

First time I saw this the Roderick Kingsley was. Now I appreciate they were seeding a futures Hobgoblin storyline in the midst of Gang War story arc. This show was so great in balancing characters, building up the cast, so we can care about Peter's everyday life, and all the while giving us great Spider-Man stories. Osborn playing all the crime lords by giving them fake plans so he bets half a billion while losing nothing continues to show how dangerous he truly is and how other established crime lords keep overlooking him.

It's true Spidey doesn't get many female rogues (mainly just Sable and Black Cat plus the woman who inherited Dr. Octopus' title and tech after his 'death'), but then that's been the standard for most male superheroes like Batman too. Probably something to do with comics code people getting unsettled about pictures of our heroes punching ladies in the face. However, as the Batman says, 'the hammer of justice is unisex!'.

@MattAnd10 сағат бұрын
I think it’s more than the code, the general public is not positive about male characters fighting female ones - almost every time a male character loses a fight to a woman they’re viewed as being weak, rather than the woman as strong, and if they win it often has the effect of someone “stronger” beating up someone “weaker” (even if they are shown to be equal - or the woman be stronger) The ultimate conclusion becomes to avoid the headache and mainly have men fight men, and women fight women
@jonasquinn79773 сағат бұрын
I think it’s a combination of it generally being viewed negatively for a man to hit a woman regardless of context, that typically female villains tend to be viewed more sympathetically and thus eventually reform or are toned down and the tendency for male hero/female villain couples to form at some point which complicates things.

Roderick Kingsley in the comics was a fashion designer which was a front for his criminal activities, when one of his underlings found the green goblin lair underground, he was killed and the everything inside the green goblin lair was taken by Roderick where he found norman journal and recreated the goblin serum but with extra advantage of not going insane. He altered a green goblin suit to become hobgoblin Someone who briefly became hobgoblin is a man named Jason Phillip macandale who was also a masked super villain named jack o lantern and he was a ghost rider villain Also this story had the death of ned Leeds who was framed to look like he had been the hobgoblin Silvermaine was a gangster who was behind the dealership of synthetic heroin which was led to creating two crime fighters named cloak and dagger, eventually he body would get bad damage as a building collapsing on him , he would get a mechanic body

Jameson, and Mr. John Devereaux are racist but Flash, and his friends are not racist they are his friends they respect him after all, besides if the show wasn’t canceled they give him a chance to talk a lot without interruption I respect Hobie Brown he was The Prowler he is a anti hero in the comics and another show was Spider Man 90s, and Marvel’s Spider Man 2017 I wish that the show wasn’t canceled they give a chance to bring the show back season 3-5, a spin off with Venom the Lethal Protector, and a movie animated I really miss that show so much, by the way I’m a Marvel fans, I love The Spectacular Spider Man show, and I like your videos you guys 😘🥰.
