honestly nothing wrong with blocking in souls games, but I think the reason why so many people choose not to is that the game is balanced around dodging stuff, thus shields will always make the game easier, not really adding anything else - it's essentially a difficulty lever, because if the games were balanced around shields you'd NEED to always have a shield and that would just be restricting your weapon choice

people take part in strategies that make the gameplay easier quite often (leveling up, using estus, upgrading weapons). the reason they don't use shields is because they don't perceive them as fun or cool. if you ask me, barring extreme strategies such as the fingerprint shield, I don't think shields are as broken as people like to imply ESPECIALLY against bosses.

The stamina drain and potential to get guard-broken or forced/pushed into a bad position is what makes them bad. Why would I block an attack that I could side step or outtrade? Besides in order to block (effectively) you must be one-handing which is the lowest potential DPS possible. Shields are only really good for parrying attack/spells or a low-vigor mage setup. But even then you probably have low Stamina anyways so rolling out of the way to cast a spell is probably a far better option. You could always block the attack and then two-hand but that's slow enough to lose you any advantage against a tough enemy. They were so good in DS1 that they nerfed them into oblivion in DS2 and they've just never been the same.

Riot should look into some nerfs to the ADC items. And go back to buffing the champions individually to compensate. I'm pretty sure the item power is the main reason the random champions with an ADC build take over the other lanes. They're just all super strong effects in every situation. It's been so long that DL doesn't even compute why mages don't just all build deathcap. (deathcap is just a massive stat stick, stacked effects are more useful to most champions to cover strengths and weaknesses)

What NA pros don't realize (and hilariously, no one ever talks about in these streams), is that kills early mean almost nothing at all. When you watch good regions play early game, even if they go down 3/4/5 kills, the gold is still basically even. And also, the gold is on average WAY higher even for the losing team at 14 minutes. The reason: good regions prioritize farm, camps, plates, and neutrals in the early game. They aren't attempting the dive bot to get kills (altho those are nice), they're doing it to pressure the enemies off which leads to plates. Then it leads to a neutral objective on the enemy's back timer. Then it leads to a tempo advantage where they swing top and do the same. T1/genG/KT, etc, have extremely high averages for # of plates taken before 14min, and this is consistent even in games where they're losing early. Same with farm, they literally never give up substantial farm even when losing. NA is so worried about early kills to snowball, they miss out on 90% of the gold on the map.

Shields in elden ring arent broken lol, i've played both 2 handed and shield +1handed, and 2handed jump attacks are just way better in most fights, though there are some fights that shields make rly easy, Radahn is probably the biggest offender. But in fights like Malenia shields are awful.
