gauntlet was very nicely done indeed on the Speccy.

It would have been nice to have some texturing on the floor so when you are in open spaces you can tell you are moving. Other than that though, a good game that took me away from the show for a while.

Thanks Paul, for your continued support in the Speccy scene, brings back some wonderful memories, of trying to learn some Z80 assembly language, but failing sadly on the more difficult to understand Shift registers, never could get my head around those, shame really, as I loved the machine.

Aww, I'm going to miss Geoff's What Willy Did Next series :( Is there any possibility he might consider doing one on all the Dizzy mods per chance?
@jaysmith28588 жыл бұрын
The one problem with that feature is that the level of enjoyment someone gets from it is largely going to be dependent on how much they liked the original game. If you loved the featured game, it's party time. If you didn't like it that much however, oh dear.

DejaVoodooDoll - Maybe so, but the abilities if the humble Speccy can be highlighted in numerous ways, not just one way with a few largely cosmetic changes here and there. Maybe it's just me, but I would think you'd have to be into a particular game in a big way to get enjoyment out of playing (never mind seeing) endless mods.

I have meaning to ask this for a while now and wondered if either of you knew what tune is playing during the Jet Set Willy game? It is a very sombre, church like piece that is certainly not Hall of the Mountain King or If I Were a Rich Man. Do either of you know as I've not been able to find any information as to what the tune is.

Disappointed not to see "Armageddon Man" on the compatible games list for the K-Mouse - it screams out for mouse control.

Ok I’m at ep 59 and 40 to go. Just wondering, will we ever get to hear Domark pronounced correctly or is it forever going to be D’mark?

Interesting piece of hardware with the Mouse interface. Seeing all those games modded to support it, is rather cool. Pitfall II looks really, really terrible on the Spectrum. Though, truth be told, the original Atari 2600 release was *so* far advanced over other games there, that it isn't quite a leap forward on other systems. Still doesn't excuse the quality of that port though :( (PS: Aliens was published by Electric Dreams, not Electronic Dreams - a minor detail, but worth noting)

I understand the nostalgia and the history, but you'd have to be very enthusiastic to enjoy the offerings of the ZX Spectrum today.

With over 100 new games a year (on average over the last 5 years) released for it, new hardware (DicMMC, Interface 1bis, Beta disc interface, K Mouse etc etc) being made and a very active demo scene doing amazing stuff, then yes, there is a lot of enthusiasm for the Spectrum today :-)
@benadams63328 жыл бұрын
Don't get me wrong I am a fan of your series, I very much enjoy the history and I had 2 friends who owned a ZX spectrum, while I was one of the superior Commodore 64 owners. The news section you have is what we used to throw at each others at school trying to make out the superior computer. But being a c64 owner, I always felt superior, our games were just better, the sound, the joystick support, the graphics...

There speaketh the man who has never played the C64 version of Hard Drivin :)
@AmbersKnight8 жыл бұрын
I disagree. The Spectrum is still a relevant machine today with new titles getting released. As for the C64, it had its limitations as well. The SID chip was superb but I have been extremely impressed by what modern programmers can do with the original Beeper on the Speccy. Yes the C64 had more colours but they were drab compared to the CPC 464 from Amstrad. Graphically however is where the Spectrum actually had the edge. In terms of the actual resolution and drawing of the sprites the Speccy was more than capable of looking better in those terms than the somewhat blocky C64. Also the BASIC on the C64 that came with it was awful, where the simplest of graphical and sound commands required PEEKs and POKEs in order to work. And as others have mentioned, The Speccy's processor handled 3D environments with games like Hard Drivin and its ilk far better than the C64. The C64 was a fantastic machine, I won't knock it but the Speccy was pretty good as well and is still regarded with genuine affection and still has people making new games and software and hardware for it. Nostalgia and history? Yes. But it is so much more than that.
