The Speedrun Strategy that Revolutionized Red Ball 4

On the 16th of January, 2021, a complete newcomer to the speedrunning scene named xDiss posted a video innocently titled "red ball vol.1 boss glitch." In this video, xDiss managed to completely disrupt the normal progression of the boss found at the end of the game by slowly pushing it to the other side of the screen after completing phase 1. Though this strategy did not save any time at first, it was majorly improved by the hands of speedrunners Motorjam and NorXor, turning xDiss' boss push into the boss roll that we know today. With the strategy now having the potential to save around 25 seconds over a normal completion, the race to push the world record of the game from a 3:27 to below three minutes began. This is the story of the boss roll and how it changed Red Ball 4 Vol.1 speedrunning forever.

I also found this glitch while playing on my school's computers. I just found it fun to push the boss, but after the glitch my friends and I were very confused that we skipped phase 2. We set a new time trial record of 58 seconds on the computer.

Basically I’ll sum it up at the randomized bouncing for the boss, if it has less bounces you could have 5.600 seconds, but if you have more you will have 1 second and 366 milliseconds added to your time.

The game is made by a different creator and does not have an auto scroller like the rest of the red ball games. Also the red ball is too big for the screen (my opinion) and the jump height is too short (also my opinion).
