Here's the fantastic Spinners performing live Mighty Love, with Philippe Wynne going to church again, and some funny comedic moments!
The Spinners rate as one of the most fantastic groups along with The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Dramatics, The OJays, The Stylistics, The Whispers, The Intruders, Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes, and The Delfonics. They were apart of the golden age of classic soul groups who mesmirized us with their dances, energy, and love songs.
It's Ashame, Rubberband Man, Mighty Love, Could It Be I'm Falling In Love, I'll Be Around, Mighty Love, One of a kind Love Affair, Ghetto Child, Sadie, How Could I Let You Get Away, Then Came You, Games People Play, Love Don't Love NoBody, were among their biggest hits, making them the premier group of the 70's.

That music was just so special. I too grew up on Motown and other soul music. That era of music was just so great whether it was Soul, or Southern Rock, Pop, even some country for me; it all was just so special.

Watching this and other Spinner's live videos gives me a feeling inside of love & appreciation for the magic they where capable of. I grew up in the 1970's and their songs are so inextricably intertwined with so many memories of that time that it makes me homesick for them. Ah, but unlike so many others (living now & those yet to come) I lived during that time and experienced these things when they were happening. We had no idea that the 1970's and the feelings & emotions that swept through us then would ever end, but they did. We need a mighty love to bring all that back now. If there is a God at... please make yourself know now!

You’re so right Cindy! Everything was great about this music. Great lead and harmony vocals, meaningful lyrics, great backing instrumentation and band accompaniment. My Dad introduced me to all of this R &B, Soul and 70’s Jazz which is still what I listen to mostly today. Nothing like it. Take care.

My favorite all time Spinners song! I look at Philippe with his thick glasses, and I think of Ruffin too, realizing that our current era would likely never allow them to become superstars. Back them the music industry gave us artists with pure talent and showmanship; now appearances seem to trump everything. Sad commentary....

Mighty thanks to my music father, Maurice King, R.I.P. my bandmates; Rodney Vorhis, Bass (R.I.P.), Tony Williams, Guitar (R.I.P.), Ted Smith, Drums and The Mighty Spinners. That's the late great Phillippe Wynne, who later sung with Parliament as well as hitting the charts a couple of times on his own (His voice is scatting on the end of (not just)Knee Deep). But the Big Smiling brother is the late great Bobby Smith, the smooth silky voiced brother wh sang, "ill be Around", Games People Play", and "Could it Be I'm falling in Love". Very underrated singers indeed.

Those ICONIC Philippe Wynne vocalizations near the end and slightly featured in Spinners songs, but that came into full flower with Funkadelic "Not Just Knee Deep" are AMAZING - he's practically doing that song near then end here - signature sound. Thanks for this beautiful post.

Soundstage! I first saw Journey on that show. That was some good music and the closest thing to a rock concert this poor girl would ever get to see. One act every week for a whole hour, unlike Austin City Limits, not necessarily blues & country. I was on cloud nine watching that show. Something to look forward to on PBS every week! They wouldn't show it in Oklahoma except for one or two seasons, yet Lawrence Welk got airplay for 20 years after he had died! Made me nuts.

This was definitely an act. You young'uns don't know what you're taking about. I've seen this song sung on other programs and they did the same thing. I was 14 yrs old back in 1976 and loved the sound of soul music and ALL music genres. Thank you KZbin for allowing us old fogies to reminisce. Wynne regretted leaving the Spinners when his solo career did not take off. He's best remembered (solo wise) on Funkadelic's 'Knee Deep' He was improvising on that song too.

@TheNewsoul2 Don't know about that entirely. You see the obvious evolution of R&B, Soul. This performance from the Spinners has alot of elements from Motown but has obviously changed even then. Beyonce is a contemporary Diana Ross & Tina Turner combo. I think she's truly talented and produces quality songs and performances. Now...many Rapp artists on the other hand to me aren't true musical artists and lack class as well as true ability!

Lord have mercy I enjoyed every minute of this video. Watching Philippe Wynn singing and shouting and wondering if he’s up in heaven singing and shouting also to this same song which seems to have been his favorite song as well as mine too. R.I.P. 💙

@TheNewsoul2 wow I couldn't have said it better myself. These young singers today truly lack soul in their music and performances. .It's all about them and showing off, not making music that touches people's heart and changes the world. But that's all today's generation knows so of course its great to them, but when they see truly great entertainers like this, then they hear real music and see real entertainment.

@jenkinskevin There r so many groups & artists from those days, it's hard 2 say who's the best. The O'jay's r another talented bunch w/ a deep catalog. But, I do agree, Phillipe is a definite natural talent.

I saw the Spinners "Back in day" no less than eight times .Each time I left the concert halls I was floating on a cloud,Philippe was a "gift from God" .People should note their band director Maurice King .What I would give to have these type of groups come back.Again thanks for giving the public music for the ages !!!
