It is past time for The Spinners to be inducted into the Hall! We copied all those moves at my high school! Yes, I can still do them! Thank you Bennett for the recommendation and Harri, thank you for the reaction!

And let me add the Stylistcs, Manhattans,O'Jays, Chi Lites, Blue Notes, and all those incredible Motown R&B music. I am begging the forces and powers that be, please bring back Black soul/R&B with those great melodies, harmonies, vibes and grooves. Nothing against Rap and Hip Hop, true art form and the voice for so many today, BUT, I need these great groups and individuals to sprinkle fairy dust and bring us a new generation of great soul and R&B music. Hey, John Legend, can you spearhead this??? God I miss the 70s!!!!!

My favorite Spinners song. Soul-flavored vocal groups like the Spinners, Temptations, Four Tops, O'Jays were a big part of the soundtrack of my tweenage and early teenage years! Hand me down my walking cane!

About 20 years ago, I saw them at a music festival.. I couldn't wait for them to come on. But they had to play a "short version" concert so the next band could play. They played a medley of their biggest hits. I was bummed out because they had to shorten most of their songs. The last song they did was Rubberband Man, they did an extended version. They really kicked it. IT WAS GREAT ! Love me some Spinners.

My favorite group of all time. These guys were real showmen. Try finding them singing Mighty Love live to kick off the 1973 or 1974 Grammy Awards. Standing O from an audience of their peers including Stevie Wonder and John Lennon.
@bennettjoseph1481 Жыл бұрын
Harri previously played a live version of "Mighty Love" that I submitted. The sound isn't the greatest but it is still awesome. And that Grammy performance is indeed impressive.

"Rubberband Man" is my favorite Spinner's song. They had a lot of great songs in the 50's-70's. "That's What Girls Are Made For", "Love (I'm So Glad) I Found You", "I'll Always Love You", "Truly Yours", "It's A Shame", "We'll Have It Made", "I'll Be Around", "One Of A Kind (Love Affair)", "Together We Can Make Such Sweet Music" etc. They had a big hit in 1974 with a collaboration with Dionne Warwick, "Then Came You".

Love me some Spinners! Thanks Harri and Bennett. ... Btw, Harri, am not sure if you already knew this, but a "rubber" is American slang for a condom. So it made me giggle like a schoolboy when you said you wondered if people had their rubbers out and were doing their rubber dance to this song at clubs and parties back in the day. 😁

So awesome! Gotta wonder: was the rubberband man a colloquial folk musician, even by 70s standards, like playing a broomstick & bucket bass?? I remember the song from the radio, and it's even cooler to me now, considering what it may be about :)

Would you say that "Midnight Special" was the American version of "The Old Grey Whistle Test" or "Top of the Pops"?

I think more "Old Grey Whistle Test" because "Midnight Special" mostly had acts perform live and I believe "Top of the Pops" was mostly lipsync.
