The Spinners. "Could It Be I'm Falling In Love," and "I'll Be Around." Both 1972. Probably their biggest hits. "Rubber Band Man" (1976) was their attempt to pivot to disco.

The Spinners were a great group , very prolific in the 70's.. Some songs to check out are It's a Shame, I'll Be Around and Love Don't Love Nobody, to name only a few. Phillipe Wynn was the lead singer in their most popular songs until he left the group to join George Clinton's band.

OH yeah, it was something special, because we were used to the WHOLE TV shutting down by midnight, with the sign-off recordings and that creepy holding pattern that basically said, "It's past your bedtime." We didn't dare miss the show, either, because there were NO VCRs back then, so no catching it later.

I remember people dancing with rubber bands during this song -- similar to what they're doing in the video. People like me with less dexterity just pretended we had rubber bands and did the same dance moves. Such fun! They signed with Atlantic in 1972… I’m old enough to remember the 60s Spinners who were with Motown and the Motown subsidiary VIP. Saw them live in the “Motown Review” in the 60s at the Uptown Theater in Philly. I own one of their Motown vinyl’s…The Original Spinners (1967).

The Spinners, where do I begin. First of all review “Sadie”. It will make you cry!! The Spinners were another Detroit group. They were inducted in to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last September 2023. New Edition honored them in song. The last original member, Henry Fambrough, was in attendance but unfortunately passed February 2024. He was my church member and the new group still rehearsed there. Their first hit “It’s a Shame was written by Stevie Wonder.

I so wish one or more of the younger singers today would resurrect the Motown vibe. During the last American Idol finale when Jay was singing with Earth, Wind, and Fire.....every single person in the audience, young and old, was standing, clapping, and moving to their songs. Music (and sports) unites the country. We need that right now. (Hi, Tim!!!)

I was 14 years of age and remember seeing this on TV in 1976. The lead singer left to the group to go solo, after a failed solo career he joined Parliament/Funkadelics . You can hear his voice on Uncle Jams Army, Knee Deep, One Nation Under A Groove. He passed away from a heart attack shortly after a Funkadelic concert performance.
