My love of fruitcake brought me here. I've searched for the best fruitcakes in the U.S. and Assumption Abbey Fruitcake came up almost at every source. It was sold out everywhere which made me want it more. Finally, one of Assumption Abbey's retailers had a few left and I was able to purchase one. I live in Missouri far from the Abbey but I will definitely have to visit this monastery and stay there a couple of days to take in this wonderful capture of the daily monks' life. Thank you for such an amazing video on those who serve our Father so generously. May God continue to bless them abundantly.

I first visited this monastery in 1989 and have been there once a year for the last four years. I hope to go again in July. Staying there for a week or more does wonders for a person. The spirit of God really can be found here and in other monasteries.

Such a beautiful place. I have not so far visited here. But it s on my to do list. My uncle was a Brother here for many year's. He is buried here. I really miss the beautiful talk's that we shared when He was able to leave the Abbey. They were a product of the contemplative life He led there. He was a baker and cook at this abbey, He moved here from Our Lady of New Mallery in Peosta Iowa where He was also a cook, when They sold Honey, before they started makng casket's to support the Monastary. God Bless All. kevlutu

kevlutu I love the Religious Life. I was surrounded by Nuns as a young girl. And I have also stayed in a convent. If I was not married. I would become a Nun. And devote my life to God. I pray in my home and I have always believed in God.God has helped me through my life. Thankyou for sharing your Holy Place of God.

@@suzita4019 I also very nearly entered the Franciscan order ( OFM ) after having been an Alter Boy for many years, both pre and post Vatican 2, in the end, I did not, and went on to Marry and have 5 Children and now 17 Grand Children, and 4 Great Grand Children. I worked My whole Working life, in the Medical field, helping others overcome illness. Now that I am retired and My Wife passed away, I spend almost all of My time, working for My Church, as the Treasurer, and caretaker of the properties and Lay Leader when Our Priest is not available. I am also the Organist, having taken up the organ after My Wife passed. away 5 years ago. All in all, God has been good to Me, My whole life and has always been there for Me, when I needed Him the most, He has never failed to comfort Me when I needed it the most. I hope that Your life as been as satisfying as mine, and that God will continue to bless You always. Kevin

As much as I would like to take a few days a year to live like this to center myself, I could not tolerate more than a few days. I would go nuts.

Sadly since they embraced heretical teachings from Vatican II, they lost not only vocations (as anyone may realize) but their own spirituality as worst.

Contemplative prayer is eastern mysticism guised in the form of “christianity”, it has no place in the life of the believer!

I believe that Christ went into the desert for 40 days to lead a life of solitary prayer and fasting before he started his active ministry. Sounds contemplative to me. Also re-read the episode with Martha and Mary.
