To find this song again after so many years makes me feel so alive and grateful! I first heard this song around 1997 at Belmont Church in Nashville, TN and it makes me feel even more hopeful today, because my belief in Jesus is so much stronger! Praise be to our GOD Most High and His Most Glorious Son and our Savior! I later found the Vineyard Church a few years later. And Pastor Jerry Bryant and his Saints showed me such loving-kindness. Thank you! I've been looking for this version, I don't have the album anymore, but my Mum used to play it loud every morning. I used to be out clubbing all night and wake up seedy and with a headache. This song would cut through my dreams and convict me every single time. I still remember the day I gave that lifestyle up and began to live for Jesus. My Mum loved Jesus very much, I wish she was still here so she could meet her beautiful grandchildren. One day we will all be together again with Him.

I used to listen to this song when I was 16. Isaiah 61:1-3 had been given to me by 8 different people who did not know each other. I would lay down on my face and just worship, worship, worship. Great and powerful song. I just take issue with one phrase in the song: "This is the day of the vengeance of our God". When Jesus read this passage from Isaiah in the synagogue at Nazareth, he left this phrase out. He did it on purpose. This day is the day of salvation. The day of vengeance will come when judgment finally comes, but not in this time of grace. Just a minor point in an otherwise strong, biblical song. God bless all who listen

Actually it was the day of vengeance. He (Jesus) came as the Mighty Go'el (Kinsman-Redeemer) and forever defeated the adversary and redeemed His people from the curse of the Law! :D

I totally get you. The reason that phrase never troubled me, however, is because the way it mentioned both favor and vengeance. It struck me this way--I knew who was receiving His favor (humanity, declared righteous before God through Christ's atoning death on the cross; the only sin that sends anyone to hell is the rejection of the Person of Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and everything that relationship entails), and I knew who was receiving His vengeance (Satan, because God's wrath against us has been satisfied, again through Christ's atonement, and so it is now exclusively reserved for Satan and all his followers as the Holy Spirit and the redeemed invade the earth with the Gospel and the Kingdom of God). I'm understanding birthing mothers will feel the worse pains since the beginning of the World. Mathew (24:8).
