I have a very active 2 year old son, he doesn't sit still for very long for anything, so when he's acting extra wild, I put these Kaleidoscope videos on and he becomes so calm and mesmerized by them. When you were a little kid and you looked through a kaleidosope for the first time some part of you KNEW what was possible. Now we have this and it's wonderful. The colors are so rich and so deep. I watch it with the sound off and the speed at .50. Slower looks better (so long as it's smooth) and no sound is necessary.

Hey Daniel. This is basically an Adobe Flash screensaver that I created (based on an online Flash kaleidoscope example I found) with a bunch of fractal flame images to make it last 2 hours. I modified the Flash with Adobe Air so I could record screenshots of each frame out as bitmaps to create a huge sequence of still frames. Then I import all those still frames into Adobe Premiere to make the final video mix with the music. I am not a programmer and only had one Flash class, so my process is not totally automated and requires a long time to make a video, but it's fun to share. Now these videos are being used in nursing homes for advanced alzheimer's patients. The calming power of beautiful colors is magical.
