Still one of the weirdest episode endings ever. I believe that the writers at the time either didn’t know how to end the episode, or had minutes before the deadline, so they threw this conclusion together and called it a day.

reasonable answer: Squidward watering his plants ignoring is a joke about how hes just chilling while chaos ensues in the background, the door is just a continuity error and they had spongebob open the door for dramatic effect. The gorilla? Its just silly nickelodeon mixing live action with animation again, meant to be a joke about how the patrick suit unzips into a gorilla and patricks gorilla suit unzips into patrick, funny reverse twist! And finally the ending was another horse to continue the funny live action + animation joke and rode off to the sunset leaving everyone confused the rest about the phobia and therapy method is a good hidden message anyways

This video actually pretty much reminds me of how much better the story lines were from the first 3 seasons. Throughout the first couple of seasons there was always a moral to the story that Spongebob learns from. Very interesting theory I didn't think about. I'd like to share my interpretation as well: Spongebob really enjoys being at home (penny is metaphor for the little money needed at home, chip for food and the used paper - well I think you know :D) after experiencing the hurting accident. He's also able to live well in isolation as he overall has a pure character. (A similar situation was the episode where squidward wanted to be alone and ends up in the future where he can't handle the nothingness/nihilism.) The gorilla might be a metaphor for the evil side of humans. But as children aren't mentally ready to face a solitude living, the creator maybe didn't really know how to finish the episode rather than with an ending as absurd (and disturbing for kinds so they don't try isolating themselves, which grown ups might be able to do in a healthy way) as possible. Just my (humble) opninion. :) Thanks for the nice video!

The accident that set off this whole episode (SpongeBob smashing into pieces) was in the wrong story. I knew that since I first saw this episode. Sponges are very soft and not at all fragile. Drop a sponge and it won't break. That would make sense if it happened to an egg like Humpty Dumpty, but not to a sponge like SpongeBob.

He’s probably just a scuba diver wearing a gorilla costume. Think about it, as soon as SpongeBob questions what’s a gorilla doing underwater in the first place, the gorilla panics, gets nervous and calls out to George the horse “GEORGE, THEY’RE ONTO US!”, which is sus when you consider that most people would probably defend themselves if there was no reason to hide. If you’ve watched Alex Bale’s television theory, you might know that the characters are being filmed, and both the gorilla and George the horse could just be scuba divers in disguise who got caught by SpongeBob and are running away to avoid exposing the surveillance plot. Not that it works since the episode Truth Or Square exposes the surveillance, but whatever..
