I never understood why The Sports didn't get big like INXS or Chisel. They had a great list of songs.

It was Sheena, that intro was pretty lame. Seriously though, me too. Sports were great.

Good question. Probably because they were a little ahead of their time. Incredible tunes.

there was just something special about 79 to 81.. them 3 years seem to produce so much magical music in rock/pop/metal.. even jazz-fusion all around the world.. transitional but a fantastic time in popular culture..

I’d say 79 to 82. Something just changed and it was never the same after that. For me anyway

@@JCStorm76 sure, u could even say 78 to 82, but 79-81was unique. In fact good rock/hard rock/pop music/concerts followed for another decade or so.. but after 90/91 popular music seem to take a major dive.

Yeah I saw them in 78 and have had their best of compilation on vinyl since the early 80’s but sort of forgot all about them until I got their definitive collection on CD recently and I’ve become abit obsessed with them. So many amazing songs it’s a head scratcher they weren’t massive.

They appeared on Countdown on my 6th birthday, so many years ago now. Unfortunately we'll never ever get music made like this again.

And that might be a good thing really. If music like this were still made, Sports would be long forgotten. Luckily, they don't make music like this and we remember Sports. Steven Cummins was awesome.

I love these guys.. I don't mind that they didn't break it in the USA. I wish they did for some big ol $$. Love these guys. I thought they did "wedding ring".. unreal cover of a fkn great song. Yea yeah... Haah ha ha ha ha.. love the sports. They will always be strangers on a train... When this song came out I used to sing "Malcolm".. instead of how come.. it's right they still tell lies.

Here's the chords, in case anybody's interested: Bm Em F#m Jump on the bus that takes me to your flat Bm D Up three flights of stairs, it's so convenient G Bm C#dim Bm Make no mistake, no I can't quite explain G Bm C#dim Bm Em F#m But if you don't leave now we'll miss our train D G A N/A (mute) How come, how come, how, how come - you've been telling lies? D G A N/A (mute) How come, how come, how, how come - little secret alibies D G A N/A (mute) How come, how come, how, how come - shadows across your eyes D G A N/A (mute) How come, how come, how, how come?

why the hell is the electric guitarrist wearing that ridiculous poncho ? That's one reason they weren't as big as some of their contemporaries: they were just a bit quirky. But, good on' em.
