Yet another stellar review of a UK legal knife, fair comments all round. Being a UK resident we are obviously restricted in our carrying options and this does offer a more classy carry. Having owned & carried this knife for a while now, I enjoy its edc role in my life. Keep up the good work.

Seems a bit of a shame... I watched as Mike developed this, documented by a huge thread on britishblades, before that forum disappeared. Many of your criticisms weren't present on the original - there was no spydie hole, rather it was an actual flipper (albeit the geometry meant it needed a fair bit of wrist action to complete the flip), with thumb studs for multiple opening options, so the pocket pecker you see here was a useful flipper tab, and with no spydie hole there was no need to relieve anything to access a nonexistent hole. The scales were also plain titanium (stonewashed maybe? this was way back in 2012-13 ish IIRC so memory fails me). I believe the steel S35VN with plans for Elmax on the mk4, which I am unsure if ever got made as that's around the time Spyderco got going on their rendition. The price started in the region of £200 and kept creeping up as it became clearer and clearer that FAR more people wanted to buy them than he, a one man band, was able to produce. The beauty of it was how It filled an empty niche as light weight UK legal semi-custom flipper, semi-lockable non locking knife, with nice slim modern construction and materials. They sold like hotcakes on britishblades, he wasn't even close to able to keep up with the demand. It was incredible news when it was revealed that spyderco were interested in taking on the design, yet now looking back at this review it seems a shame that this is what was developed and eventually discontinued, when I suspect if he'd stuck at refining the original design, we'd be still be seeing him struggle to keep up with demand at twice the price. Thanks for the video. I'm a new subscriber from the UK and have liked what I've seen so far. If by any chance you fancy bursting out with an exclamation of "inconceivable!!!" on your next vid, you'll certain get a like from me! :) Ta, Jjams.

Lots of clever design features on the PITS that I really appreciate. The high tip above the pivot reduces the risk of folding. The chamfer at the front of the scales to aid the sweep of the the thumb opening. Subtle yet valuable features. Sadly even non-locking knives like the PITS could be unavailable to U.K. buyers in the future. The U.K. government has a consultation open presently on proposals effectively banning postal knife sales. If you’re a U.K. resident and knife enthusiast you’d be well advised to take them time to reply to the consultation.
@jimm2447 жыл бұрын
I own one of these and your points are mostly SPOT ON & perfect. A few exceptions: the Spydie hole is large enough that access is fine and relieving the scales wouldn’t change much-maybe it’s a small hand thing :-). The pocket pecker is so slight when closed, it’s a non-issue. The lack of chamfering on my sample doesn’t reach the state of discomfort (but I agree it SHOULD be better). That said, at a LOWER PRICE POINT this is a compelling knife. I’ll know how it looks riddled with snail trails soon enough, as I plan on carrying the crap out of mine. ETA, my sample was also off center to the same side. This is the only issue I found inexcusable/ugly (aside from the price). Unfortunately, I’ve encountered centering issues in several of my recent Spydercos, one each from Golden, Taichung, and now Italy. I even sent one in for ‘repair;’ it was way off. They didn’t seem to think it an issue and it came back about the same.

This is a neat design, Even though I am a stickler for locks I actually rather like modern slip joints, I mean I wouldn't carry one for work but as a collector I am a fan. The most interesting design I've from spyderco in a while, I quite appreciate any innovation in the knife world. sadly not worth 240$ for me personally. Finger Choils/guards are great they stop the knife from cutting your hand, You can still pinch your fingers with them pretty good though. But don't let me act like I actually need a work knife... I have... Too many as it is, Still it's nice to be able to carry your newest toy around with you.

@arcadely7 жыл бұрын
That sucker goes from anywhere between £260 and £350 here in the UK. I'd love to expand my choices for EDC (currently have the UKPK and a Viper Dan 2) but not for that kind of money - which feels entirely divorced from reality - and especially not with those finishing issues. If it was £100-130 I might consider it as a higher end EDC/gentleman's folder type of option, but for me that role's already filled by the Dan 2. (Of course if I really had my way I'd walk around all the time with my ZT 0452 CF because who doesn't love a big, ridiculous titanium frame-lock flipper? But it's not worth going to jail for.)

I don't know that that'd be possible. Slipjoints don't have the kind of "break free" detent needed.
@macmurfy2jka7 жыл бұрын
+Nick Shabazz that's because it would make for a poor slip joint. The I would venture to guess that sharper transitions from the held shut position to the free swinging blade position in the camming surface would likely do it. The transition would be more like that of that from open to free: lots of pressure and then snap!
