Awesome Ive been using this to mostly keep my kitchen knives super sharp. It's so easy to open up and give a few swipes and my carving knife is ready to rock. Take care buddy.

Do you think this would be a good system to keep in a bug out bag, to keep a working edge on your main survival knife? If so, what would be the best rods that would pack into the case, no more, to use.

Michael Martin I think it would be a good system for a bag if size and weight aren’t a concern. The rods I would choose would be a course diamond or CBN rods along with the medium rods. The medium rods leave about a 1000 to 1200 grit finish which is more then enough on a survival blade and the course rods would be there to get any damage or chipping out. If weight and size are a concern the Worksharp Field sharpener is a great system as well. Thanks and take care.

@@adrianotero7963 Yes the KME is a great system I really love mine, but he was looking for something kind portable that would fit in a back pack. Take care and stay safe.

According to spyderco the medium rods are roughly 600 grit the fine is between 1200-1500 grit the ultra fine is roughly 2000-2500 grit....that's why you need the diamond rods or the cbn rods.....there are also several other aftermarket rods in very course grits on the market. Any triangle rod with a 1/2" flat will fit. For touch ups this system works great, for a full blown reprofile even with the diamond or cbn rods it's very time consuming but can be done. Another cost effective alternative is the work sharp Ken onion angle set system....works on the same concept but comes with a 320 and 600 grit diamond plates as well as a fine ceramic that I'm guessing to be around 1200 grit or so. And it's also significantly less expensive.

On the Spyderco Triangle Sharpmaker, will I harm my Wusthof knives that have a 14deg. angle blade (28deg) if I use the 30deg side of the sharpener?
@TheBigCanucker
@TheBigCanucker 3 жыл бұрын
If you use the Sharpmaker on your 14 Deg Wusthof you won’t ruin anything, but you will be just sharpening the very edge of the main bevel and over time the edge will get a little thick behind the edge and loose some performance. Then you would have to reprofile the edge back to 14 degrees. A couple of ways to go is just follow the lowest edge angle on the sharpmaker bwciase if your an average chef guy you take off such little steel it would be a couple of years before you would need to assess it or tilt your hand to follow the 14 degree edge and you will be ok that way long term as well. Take a sharpie and Color the edge and then monitor your stroke to see where your angle needs to be. I hope this helped take care.

Thanks for the video! I have one question, I can buy a used but in good condition Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpmaker but I dont know how long the stones can be used before I need to replace them? I am knew in this (just bought Byrd Robin 2 and Para 3 - regular/light usage) so I really appreciate your answer and opinion! Thanks in advance!!!

As long as you don’t drop them they will last the average knife owner literally a lifetime. In the 10 or so years I’ve been collecting I’ve not seen a set of ceramic stones used up. I wouldn’t worry about the stones at all. I hope this helps take care.
