@@deliademira5700 a lot of times especially with korean artists american interviewers tend to treat them like they’re incapable of answering more complex questions because many of them don’t speak english so they’ll ask basic questions like “what’s ur favorite american food?” and it can be quite frustrating as fans because these artists and actors deserve to be asked the same questions as english speaking ones but instead they’re given the same ones over and over

Oh yeah, I noticed that too. I watched the show with original Korean audio, but with English subtitles. I noticed the " hyung" part doesn't get included in the English subtitles--it's a little touch that gets lost in translation.

@@applefoodie Yes it is so important that Sang Woo tells Ali to call him Hyung instead of Sajangnim. That indicated their closeness which is why Ep 6 was heartbreaking. Yet the subtitles did not reflect the change so it gets lost to non Koreans. I do understand translators are underpaid so it is not their fault but I do hope they get paid more for future projects. I did notice the subs were updated recently, especially including more swearing because subs tend to water them down lol!

I think some of the nuances in Korean culture get lost on the international audience, and they didn't put that much effort into conveying that. But perhaps...with the popularity of Korean media, some of the cultural nuances might be better appreciated by the international audience, and moving forward, translators might put more effort into conveying those cultural tidbits.

I really appreciate the respect that Jimmy showed, that he did some research beforehand. I've seen interviewers ask Lee Jung-Jae how he's adjusting to his newfound fame, not bothering to learn that he's been a star in Korea for decades. It really reflects well on Jimmy and the show that he knows their names, and background on them, even though these are basic things.

I don't care what others say about it, but for me Lee Jung-jae's portrayal of Gi Hun was one of the most impressive acting performances I have ever seen. Gi Hun's character (next to Sang woo) was one of the most complex and multifaceted and I'm glad the director was able to win such a talented actor for it. Lee Jung-jae played Gi Hun so masterfully and believably that I suffered with him for the entire series and rarely have I been so emotionally moved. .

Lee Jungjae, the main character in squid game, is one of the most well known and beloved top actors in Korea. He's been in the industry over 35 years. He played this below average loser character for the first time in squid game, but he normally plays a very charming, charismatic, or evil character in movies. I was actually quite shocked to see him playing such a loser character in.squid game because I was only used to seeing him playing strong, charismatic characters in movies. He did an amazing job though

The U.S. has a tendency to be a bit isolated from the rest of the world culturally. I have learned more about French films when I was in the UK and even Japan.
