See how Granite, Marble and Soapstone compare when put to the stain test. Using Red Wine, Lemons and Olive Oil we test each stones ability to protect itself against each product.

Wow these comments are horrible 😕 , I think you did a great job and I didn't see any problem with Ithe soapstone and why I keep leaning towards it, thanks for the video.

Knowledgeable and informative. The soapstone looked a little hazed by the lemon - unless that was a glare/shadows caused by the lighting. That Bo though! 😍

What I like about the soapstone is this, with just a wee bit of sanding, the etching left behind by the lemon, even scratches can be sanded out.....can't do that w/ granite or quartz. I can't wait to get to remodeling my kitchen, I'm gonna go w/ soapstone.

I have soapstone countertops. What changes the color after oiling is... soap. And water. The two things in abundance around a sink. I’ve heard that soapstone will naturally turn black over time. I do oil it and carefully wipe/buff off the excess oil. I wouldn’t trade my soapstone, but if I oiled it only once a year it would be a very uneven gray.

This was so informative! We are trying to decide on a countertop... I love marble, but the wine and lemon stains are intense. The soapstone does look like it did have a slight effect from the lemon. There's a bit of a cloud at the same spot where the lemon was placed. I can't tell if that was already there. My biggest concern about soapstone is just how dark it is. We have a 95" peninsula in a U shaped kitchen. Thank you for the great demonstration!

I can see lemon damaged the soapstone. Granite is the clear winner.

Hey Bo, you may need to re-do this video if you wanted to show that your company's soap stone is superior in the tests. I clearly saw a hazing caused by the lemon on the soap stone. To add, it wasn't fair to compare different color stones and you have to know that. In addition, someone said your audio has some echo. I could understand ok. But FYI, I made a close up video in my kitchen and used my bluetooth. It cut down on the echo considerably. However, I can't get to far with my B.T. before it has static connection issues.

istone store --this video's subject isn't about the price of soapstone--it's about how it stains or doesn't stain compared to some other natural stone products. Regarding comments on the video quality--considering it was done in this gentleman's warehouse, I think it was fine. It's not a "movie" for goodness sake, it's just a quick teaching video. Give the guy a break. Regarding comments about the hazing caused by the lemon on the soapstone. I, too, see a bit of hazing, but if it is indeed there, I believe it would be quickly remedied with some mineral oil or wax. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I don't believe anything will fix permanent etching on granite or marble (other than professional repolishing?). I don't have any natural stone products in my house, yet, but hope to soon. A designer friend warned me that while white marble is so popular, it does stain easily from typical kitchen ingredients, such as red wine. (Limestone, too, isn't great in most used kitchens.) I'm certain he chose a white marble sample along with the other samples because it and they are popular in today's kitchens. I often see white marbles used in high-end kitchens, but I've never seen (among my friends) a dark or black marble. One friend has honed black granite. It is pretty, but the honing makes it more susceptible to problems--even more so than a highly polished version. Quartz (the man-made "version") is very easy to maintain, but I believe if it is honed, it, too, is higher maintenance than if it is used in a polished state. Frankly, I hope I do end up with soapstone: nothing beats its silky and "soapy" feel from the talc content. Thank you, Dorado Stone, for several informative videos! All the best from the Midwest....

It's not the calcium in marble that causes it to react with acids in lemon juice, it's the carbonates (marble being metamorphised limestone). Maybe you meant to say calcite - the mineral, not calcium - the metal.

How does Dolomite Marble hold up? We are considering Brazilian Super White Which is softer than granite but harder than Marble on the MOHS.

I think this video was done well and with good intentions. For those that are saying they see etching on soapstone, I too see a light area where the lemon was; however, this is not damage to the stone itself. This is where the patina was removed. The patina is not the natural finish of the stone. It is an enhancement. You do not have to oil soapstone. It is simply done for aesthetic preference. Nonetheless, oiling the surface again with mineral oil will easily blend this out. If you recall, soapstone was widely used (and still is today) for chemistry labs- largely due to its inertness to acids. For those saying they should have compared the same color, that defeats the entire concept of this video. The stone itself is not the control group. The products are. The dependent variable is the effect the products he introduces them to have on different types of stone. So, he is not wanting to compare oil stains vs lemon juice, necessarily, on the same type of stone. He is wanting more to demonstrate to you how one type of stone compares to the other against each common household item i.e. how lemon juice will (or will not effect) honed black granite (which is technically basalt or gabbro and not granite) vs. white calcium-based marble vs true granite vs soapstone. As for the "Buy Quartz or Solid Surface" comment, I suggest you perform your own experiment and add Heat Resistance to the test.

In the beginning he named the black one in the left, quartz, black absolute honed quartz. Later he kept calling it granite. The quartz I'm surprised did worst than the granite. The red wine stain was minimal on the granite and that was left on for days.
