I'm enjoying a retrophase. Played some OG Shogun last two months and now got Medieval 1&2 on a sale for pennies. This one has more mechanics and I didn't play that much so I appreciate the introduction 😊

Glad to help and very glad you're enjoying the classics. I'd recommend Khan of steppe if you want to see the played in practice, I'd also say they know a lot more about the mechanics to help ya too. Either way good luck with the campaign mate.

Cool guide! Thank you! The king in the characteristics has an influence parameter instead of loyalty. How does it work? What does it affect and how much?

A very good question that I truly wish I could give a definitive answer to. I've seen the exact effect massively debated, but in general most will agree it is a good thing to have and to be kept as high as possible. Best answer I can give is it will improve your diplomacy (possibly in maintaining alliances, but I'm dubious about that aspect) and agent success chance, increase your chance of getting good virtues and strong generals, reduce public disorder/chance of civil war and over all lead to happy thoughts and dreams of kittens. Maybe. I'm pretty sure the first parts true, but for the rest I've yet to be able to prove anything (except the kittens, that's bang on). It's definitely a good attribute to have and you'll tend to develop it naturally just going about war, development and expansion so it's never been to much of a worry for me when playing. Sorry I can't give a better answer, if you ever hammer down a definitive effect I'd love to hear back from ya.

Awesome!! Any advice how to keep lost heirs from resurrecting factions? Or is that random
@BroughtToBear
@BroughtToBear Жыл бұрын
Cheers. Faction resurrection should occur only if an area previously owned by that faction rebels, so keep public loyalty up and you should be fine. As for the heirs, I don’t think you can do anything about that unfortunately as I’m pretty sure they only get spawned after the resurrection.

I recommend to play on Normal difficulty. Starting from Hard, peasants can slaughter feudal man at arms, it's weird.

Completely agree for an intro campaign. Normal is the best way to get to grips with all the mechanics and the unit balance. I kind of made these videos for me, since as a kid I always tried on higher difficulties and completely failed haha.

thanks a lot just one question, how can i raise the size of a unit?
@BroughtToBear
@BroughtToBear Жыл бұрын
You can replenish units after combat by taking them to a region that can recruit them and selecting replenish (I think it’s called), or you can mix depleted units together by dragging and dropping the unit card on top of each other when on the campaign map. If it’s the base unit size you want to increase, I think you can do it in the older games too but I honestly would need to start up and check. In medieval 2 and later games you go to settings, then change unit scale/size. Pretty sure all total war games have the option there, but would need to double check sorry.

how do you save and replay a batte?
@BroughtToBear
@BroughtToBear Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply, had to double check you can do it in Medieval. If you want to replay (as in play again) you have to save before the battle and then just load the save file. If you want to watch a replay of the battle then after the victory/defeat panel at the end of a battle there is a final panel that has two options "OK and Save Replay" just hit save replay and from the main menu go to "Single player" and then "Battle Replay" (can't remember exactly what that second buttons called) and you'll see a list of all the battle replays you have made.

Happy to put one together, might end up being a short but will have a look when I get back from work. Since there's no limit to building construction outside of guilds in medieval I'd honestly say build whatever you like in the long run. As for Priority it would be 1. Population control : Fortifications, watch towers. 2. Economic : Farming (at least levels 1 and 2) along with any natural resources, before moving onto trade posts. 2.5. Docks if available 3. Military : Taverns/inns (forgot the name sorry) for quick mercenaries or focus one specific military structure in each region for the troops. If you wanna check out a youtuber currently going through Medieval campaigns right now I`d recommend Khan of Steppe. Knows the old Total Wars even better than I do and still has the best use of Agents I've ever seen. Here's the link if you're interested - www.youtube.com/@khanofsteppe1667

Awesome, thanks ! I am a bit overwhelmed by the new mechanics compared to S:TW Do you have any website thats gives details on the game ? Like the graphics you showed with the vices and virtues, building tree and such, I searched but not found anything, it's such an old game 🥲

Hi sorry for the massively late reply. I can't remember exactly where I got all the info from for this and I think I just straight up made some of the graphics for it myself. There is however a lot of information of Totalwar.org and I got the virtues list from there (link in this comment). Checking the older websites and forums is your best bet for the old TW games, though if you want some extra info then I'd check up Khan of Steppe, they're a great youtuber and they know a lot more about the old TW games than I do. forums.totalwar.org/wiki/index.php/MTW_Vices_and_Virtues
