This was certainly a timely teaching in light of Israeli Independence Day. You did an amazing job at not pointing fingers at the wrongs commited on both sides during war times over land disputes by sticking to the facts and timelines. I pray the words of Psalm 122!

@@HenryAbramsonPhD no, I have been missing some of the premiers lately since everyone is at home...life is not routine, so I am ever so glad for re-plays. I do look in on the chat too and pick up extra details, and thanks to the Shomer which keeps the comments on topic. Truly appreciate all the content! Baruch Hashem.

I traveled to Israel back in '06 and '08. Spent a week in Jerusalem and another week rented a van with some friends and drove around the country. So long ago now, but I'd like to go back one more time, now with my wife.

Thank you for the lecture. Shame it could only be about and hour as there is so much to go over. Do you think you would be interested in making a mini-series going over the events that lead to the state of Israel's formation?

Dr. Abrmamson, I enjoy all your lectures. I found it surprising and confusing that you seem to say that the majority of Arabs here in the Land of Israel in 1948 had been here for 1300 years or so and were "indigenous". I've heard many others, including Mordechai Kedar, say that, while there was certainly a sizable minority who had been here that long, many or most were recent immigrants who came because of employment opportunities. Is that wrong?
@HenryAbramsonPhD
@HenryAbramsonPhD 4 жыл бұрын
I think Dr. Kedar's characterization is more accurate than mine, although I don't think we have really strong census tools to measure it precisely. There are certainly many Arabs who migrated to Israel in the Yishuv period for economic advancement and other reasons (just as many Jews, by comparison, migrated from Eastern Europe to the United States at the turn of the 20th century for economic opportunity and other reasons).

Dr. Abramson, I very much enjoyed many of your lectures on Jewish history and and am happy to say that I have learned quite a bit from those lectures when they were focused and contained a lot of detail about the topic you covered. This chapter (the State of Israel), however, was a total mess. Obviously, you can't cover 160 years of intense history, from early Zionism until today, in 60 minutes, but the information you did manage to convey was very superficial, partial and in many cases absolutely wrong. I accept that you may not be an expert on this chapter of Jewish history, but that is no excuse for the low quality exhibited here, when we know you are capable of a lot more. In my humble opinion, you might have thought to just not cover a chapter you weren't equipped to handle, considering the scope and complexity of the topic.

You mentioned(like so many other propagandists before you) "the great Roman exile" as if that is some actual historical event. I happen to be an amateur historian. In spite of my best efforts I can find no evidence to support the claim that there ever was an actual historical event known as the "Exile of the Jews by the Roman's in 70CE". Now why does such a foundational belief, such as the origin of the Jewish diaspora, have no evidence to support it? Why does such a monumental event get no mention at all by Josephus in his history of the Jews? It's quite simple. There never was an exile of the Jews by the Romans. Such an event is purely imaginary. Anyway, you've already referred to the "great Roman exile"(in other words, the big one), so I imagine a trained historian like yourself likes to believe he has good reasons for saying the things he says. I challenge you to produce one iota of evidence that supports the claim that; there was a Roman exile of the Jews in 70CE. Good luck.
