Unfortunately no because it is contracted by the executive branch. We have separation of powers and security issues are a concern for some private contractors. It is a law they are clearly abusing simply because they don't want to be caught. I agree with you though.

of course not that would be a "bad idea" ... why would they want to give inspectors or congressman come in when ever you like passes... they would easily expose them with the conditions inside... which translates to them being forced to clean up and fix things (sucks money out from their profits) , or risk being shut down. they would rather set up a date for your visit so they can conveniently clean up and make it look as if the conditions after the clean up are how the facility typically looks... doesn't take a genius to figure out that's their reason for denying the Congressman... they didn't want him to see the real typical conditions

I hear they house the children currently in detention centres without soap and blankets for $720 a day. It would make me a hypocrite to judge other people who are trying to come here for a better life for their families. They had nothing to offer. They were starving much like the immigrants today. Every detainee that is in one of those types of facilities has chosen to take the gamble as to whether or not they would end up in a facility like that. What are you expecting these facilities to be like? I would expect them to be somewhere between an overflowing emergency shelter after a hurricane, with the restrictive feel of a medical quarantine facility, and at minimum like a jail that is as busy as a jail would be during a heavy Mardi Gras or spring break weekend.

Did these people commit a crime by coming over to the US illegally? Yes, that is the crime. Of course, there's going to be consequences. There are cases where people are escaping for fear of their lives and that's understandable but it is not the norm. If you break the law, you will suffer the consequences, that's it that's how things work. Come to the US legally.

contact your state representatives, tell them to abolish privatized Pennatentiaries of any sort
