Update: since this video came out I’ve decided to stop the podcast episodes. For a couple reasons beyond what I mentioned here. 1. I’m not happy with the research for several of them. When I knew very very few people would be paying attention and it was mostly just for fun, it was easy to phone in the research. Which isn’t good enough now. 2. I signed up for this, my wife didn’t. Of course she’s fine with me doing it and using the podcast episodes, but she has no interest in making KZbin videos. So I signed up for the hate comments and the criticism, she did not. And at a certain point that’s started to feel unfair to her.

This channel deserves so much more recognition. Love the content you've been putting out recently!!

Yeah I found you thru your recent Velvet Underground vid which was amazing so it was pretty weird to me how basic the BeeGees bit was 😂 But this makes sense now. For some reason I can’t explain people often like to just see new takes and bios of their own favourite bands / eras , then follow the creators journey into other artists.

I swear I'm going to watch the Buddy Holly episode! I was actually excited to see that you uploaded a longer video on his history. I'm enjoying the channel (both podcast and non-podcast episodes) and it's actually kind of cool that you're learning about some of these artists for the first time as you research these vids. HOWEVER - as penance for mispronouncing the Buggels in a podcast two years ago, maybe you could do a video on the Buggels and Trevor Horn. That album The Age of Plastic (w Video Killed the Radio Star) is amazing pretty much from start to finish, and there's a lot of cool history there. No pressure tho, just keep up the good work 😀

Learning about them as I go give me an interesting perspective I think. Also, I love learning about artists so it’s a great way to do that. Thanks for watching them! I’ll definitely add em to the list! I want to get more into the 80s era, I’m not as familiar with that time period.

I subscribed when i first stumbled upon it. I think it's great! While i love hearing about bands i follow(ed), i also enjoy learning about those i haven't. Keep up the good work

As someone with my own music channel who is earlier in the process, I found this video really insightful and interesting! Are there any other tips you would give yourself back at the beginning of the process of starting this channel? I hope you continue to do these big-picture updates like this in the future.

Thanks! I definitely plan to do an update every year, as long as I actually have things to say haha. For advice, one thing I'm glad I did is solidify what this channel is. There are so many things you can do with music: reviews, news, video essays, etc. I decided to only do music history and I think that's helped. People know what to expect. I wish I was better prepared for criticism. You think you'll be able to brush off hate comments, but it's a skill that needs to be developed. It's helpful to be able to differentiate between those who genuinely like your content and offer suggestions on how you might be able to do stuff better and people who don't care about your content and just want to make themselves feel smarter and better by crapping on your video. Don't waste your energy on the second type of commenter.

Hey man! I have a podcast and 50 years of music obsession. I have some ideas for you. I watched the whole thing and get what you are saying. I was there seeing almost every band you have highlighted. I can give you perspective and inside information. Let me know if you’re interested. I just love sharing the music and stories and experiences with people who care about music the way we do.

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind. School's starting back up for me, so my time will be pretty limited for a bit.
