Thank you so much for your insight on Yom Ha'atsmaut. Another thing here in Israel that bothered me was Yad Vashem. The last time I went there one would think that there wasn't a single yeshiva in Europe. From my understanding, I hear this has recently changed. Anyway, thanks again for your talk.

Too much common sense is presented in this podcast. Very insightful, thank you Rabbi Orlofsky.

the difference between a patach and kamets according to sefaradim (Radak really) is the length. patach is shorter. One other thing. there is a kamets katon which is close to the ashkenazi kamets [like in the word "kol"] and is pronounced like a cholem. i like to follow Saadia Gaon who was also in Tiberias and also in babylon and he left some very interesting writings on the topic.

To give an answer as to why Y. hA. is celebrated with Hallel on a day other than the 5th of Iyar, you said the reason: The entire country alters or pushes off their celebrations to avert chillul Shabbos. What greater reason for saying Hallel could there be than that? This kind of undermines the perception that the state was founded with the sole goal of uprooting Torah Judaism, as Rav Mendal Weinbach was quoted here as saying. The 9th of Av is pushed off some years and the full regiment of minhagei aveilus are practiced, despite not being on the actual historic day. Regarding honoring the fallen with a moment of silence- this is a uniquely Jewish concept, taken from Mussar. Hisbodedus, silent introspection, is encouraged and practiced by any Baal Mussar worthy of the name. Silence is also an intrinsic part of sitting shiva, allowing a mourner quiet to introspect and process the enormity of loss and trauma. When a country institutes a national moment of silence, several benefits are intended: 1-Provide each bereaved family a moment to process their grief. 2-To honor the sacrifices of these families by standing in silence(and taking a couple of minutes out of our busy schedules) with them as they feel the pain of their loss again. 3-To allow each citizen (or Jew in this case) the chance for some introspection and hisbodedus: Wow, how different would the world look had these victims survived? How many Jewish families, children, good consequential deeds could have graced this country now if we had not lost them in a war? And perhaps most important- Am I living my life in a way that makes their sacrifice worthwhile? I can and must do better, for the sake of these people and families that gave up their entire futures so that I would not have to. This is what a Torah Jew does during these two minutes of silence. To allege that this opportunity for growth during national mourning has no place in a Jews life because it was not thought up by a great Rabbi, or because gentiles did it before we needed to, is tone deaf to Torah ideals and the reality of the Jewish people today. I have been hearing the ideas you express here for thirty years. Unlike wine, these reasons have grown stale instead of improving with age. I do not say Hallel on Y. hA. because it is not my minhag. But I thank HaShem every day that I live in a time in history in which the Jewish People have: 1- Our own country in our Home that HaShem promised to our Avos in which we are free to keep the Torah, 2-That we have young men and woman of all or even no levels of observance who are convicted enough to confront evil face to face so that we can live here. Perhaps this should be the chareidi focus of the season, instead of wearing a sign on our arm explaining why we dont do this or hold of that. I have yet to hear a single chareidi rav or gadol write out what the modern State of Israel should look like. All I do hear is why it is all no good. For me, the choices were brought into sharp focus in the spring of 2014. The Islamic state broke lose and established a caliphate in Iraq and Syria, right next door to us. Thousands were lined up and shot or/and beheaded for all the world to see. It was then that I realized what the alternative to the modern State of Israel was. You don't have to like it. You can even be upset and frustrated that it falls short of Torah ideals. Then for G-ds sake make it better, because October 7th is the alternative.

you don't mention that there are great rabbis that support saying Hallel (with or without Bracha) out of halachic reasons , you present it as all of the Halacha is against. Beside Hallel, after everything you are saying about Israel, if you are so not appreciating and not happy with the the existence of this state why do you leave there and enjoy it's benefits and the soldieries who risk their life to protect you? why do this state pays money to Yeshivas and give special rights to Kollel guys if this is just a state as any other state?

In addition to what was said above. This idea that our recognition of yom haatzmaut is relevant to hertzel and secular Zionists is absurd. There are no secular Zionists left, they have been proven wrong. The state of Israel is funding hundreds of yeshivas and kollelim. The army is religious, and serves glatt kosher food. Hashem in His infinite kindness allowed us back into our land. Ukrainian Jews had a place to take refuge. The state may have come about through bad motivation and sin but what about Lot and his daughters etc, etc. Hashem hashgacha brought things about this in this way. Let's recognize this goodness and stop harping on about how bad the earliest Zionists were. That was clearly part of Hashem's plan. Assimilation in America is over 50 percent, the state of Israel has saved us from our own destruction. Most Jews here marry Jews. The charadi population will soon reach 50 percent of the population. We need stop talking about the past and start focusing on the future. Let's participate in the state, and make it more halachik. Stop denying Hashem's hashgacha in bringing about things the way they are and let's thank Him for the miracle that is the state of Israel.

King Izakaya ended up, not being the Messiah, because he didn’t say the hallel with a blessing therefore this generation must fix this wrong, and do as the Rabbi kok saying the hallel with the blessing on the day of the huge miracle and reestablishment of the Jewish nationhood sovereignty, as declared in all prophecy
