This is a spot on take on the VR markets today. There is a lack of proper expectations expressed by voices in the community about the amount of quality VR content out there and the need to pace one's self as a user or you'll face burnout. And if you do, that if you take a step back, VR is already a huge value at the Quest 2's price and there are many priceless experiences you can have. The constant pushing of content on subpar experiences seems to drive the lowering of many consumer's expectations as they try games and apps that aren't worth their time and yet are hyped up by many. Great experiences will come as market forces improve... Meta's gatekeeping of how many App Lab games and apps like ours get on the main store is admittedly in the best interest of the market. We as developers have to up our game to meet their and consumer standards. The silver lining w/ the poor market forces for indie devs is we have more time to catch up before AAA publishers and talented teams like Stress Level Zero move the bar up out of reach.

Jokes are all great in packages of 3, 1 great joke in the start, one in the middle, and one to close the video would be GOLD. The edits are absolutely great, and the "stfu" was hilarious. For me the question about Cambria is.. Will it be better than the Quest 3? Will the Quest 3 offer better features for gaming than the Cambria? How much of a price difference between the 2? So yes I will wait for the Quest 3 launch but depending on what features each has will decide which I will get at the time.

I'm unable to understand the idea that Cambria is "not for gaming". It wouldn't play games? Yes, it will, at better comfort level than the Quest, for starters. That it will also work better as a productivity tool is _good_ for gamers, as it will help VR mindshare to expand to your workplace. Only big negative I have heard so far that is valid is that the resolution will stay the same as for the Quest. That stinks, because higher resolution is a must for productivity use cases (for example, the simple task of typing and reading on a screen).

I think bonelab map creator will change the game and as sl0 said when starting boneworks it'll be the small devs that will push vr due to not having anything to lose. I wish the unity vr tutorials were better but I'm going to try to make something and as most say, the 3rd game should be the one that pops off.

I can't touch the virtual grass, and for me that's the problem. I still want touch and to feel the virtual world as though solid, and sadly there is still nothing like that or the oasis. I think it's going to be a slow few years, until we get out of the mess that is co-vid. Financial problems and high price of living, chip shortages and problems with gas supplies. But I think VR and AR will survive, that's if the world survives.

Lol right. I just watched his video before this one. I tend to agree more with Eric in this case. VR still has a lot of room to grow with current hardware. The days when people ran out and bought a game system for a game that was coming out are long gone just because of economics. Same reason PCVR struggles so much, a VR ready gaming PC is too expensive for most people and they can do most of the normal PC things on a device they carry in their pocket anyway.
@alsantour8835
@alsantour8835 2 жыл бұрын
State of VR is good, every year since 2014 has been a big year for VR imo ... Bonelabs IS a big deal, and i agree its about to make life a hellovalot harder for devs, and yes they will set a really high top bar, especially if the game runs as smooth on Quest as it does on PC. But also i argue that there is room for all kind of games at all levels, especially on the current hardware, and maybe only a few studios will try to follow suit and do what SLZ is doing... Sort of how nobody ventured to create another ALYX...

I'm far from a pimax fanboy but I don't think your outlook on pimax is fair considering they are working on the pimax 12k qled which is a hybrid standalone and pc (wired or wireless via wigig) with hybrid pancake and fresnel lenses, hot-swappable battery, AND a full suite of integrated sensors for eye tracking, auto-ipd, AND face and body tracking. It's super ambitious in terms of feature set, but it's a combination of mostly already-baked off-the-shelf hardware just integrated to work well together (in terms of the sensors). the resolution and FOV should blow people away, and the 150 degrees or so that I think should be covered by the pankake lens should be pretty fantastic. - I have an 8k x, and that's a pretty lackluster headset overall, but I plan to trade up when the 12k qled drops. meanwhile I also have an index, a reverb g2, and an original oculus cv1. the cv1 has the best engineered most ergonomic touch controller, the index has the best mic and speaker setup, fantastic controllers as well, the reverb g2 has the best optics and densest display resolution and is my every day headset, and the 8k x has near-human fov for amazing immersion but really crappy audio solutions (and I bought all of the compatible headphone/speaker solutions they sell, they all SUUUCK), I really hope the 12k qled fixes that, but so long as you have the lenses perfectly aligned to your eyes (the sweet spot isn't great, but it's better than the quest), it's like being there... stuff like hl alyx is fantastic with the 8k x (except for audio).

Feel your pain, VR is starting to stagnate. I don't want to hate, but the meta/oculus drama was distraction worthy. Money being tossed at rebranding was wasted. Consumers getting VR trash instead of quality (sadly you can now compare console game quality to VR releases...Elden Ring being my greedy moment). Gaming in general is looking pretty stagnant. Gold titles are just re-skins, studios are sold or closing, major studios have been consolidated to no immediate improvement, and every gaming conference has been cancel cultured under frat boy antics/criminal activity/COVID. Praying at the very least NFTs aren't on the resurgence.
