And they could make a LOT of money from other companies. But they shouldn’t do it yet, right now they should focus on their own games and showing off exactly what the engine is capable of. Which is exactly what they’re doing. Once other companies see the impact this game and the physics engine has on VR, they’ll be willing to pay 10 times more than they would now

The thing with motion sickness, is that ultimately it's something you inherently train a resistance to the more you test yourself. It's wise to take it steady and gradually up your level, but it is something I'm confident anyone can overcome and stop experiencing. The solution to beating motion sickness in VR gaming isn't a permanently bubble wrapped and self constrained experience, but providing one that's compelling enough to make users WANT to go back in DESPITE any motion sickness they might encounter. For a little anecdote of what I'm talking about, I have 5000+ hours in VR-Chat. Over the past four years, I have witnessed literally dozens of people upgrade from playing it flat, to getting VR. It's basically part of the culture in VR-Chat, like a coming of age celebration. Roughly a third of those people expressed experiencing motion sickness during their first days of VR. But of all those dozens of people, do you know how many stopped and went back to flat? How many refunded their headsets? Or how many opted to use the "holo-port" motion rather than conventional smooth movement? Zero. I've never known a _single_ person, who hasn't overcome their motion sickness. Most get over it fully in the first week or two, and never speak of it again. And this is talking about a loose and chaotic platform where you can run around at high speeds, bump up and down on awkward coliders in poorly designed worlds, jump 20 foot in the air, drive cars, fly jet packs, get picked up of thrown around by your friends. VRC broke all of the rules on VR comfort, and despite that it's the most populated and most active game in VR. Same goes for other titles like Blade & Sorcery, or Pavlov and all it's VR-FPS rivals. Those titles don't even let you have a teleport option, and players flock to them. Top of the charts for months on both PCVR and Quest. A melee early access and a janky low budget FPS. Industry has got to overcome it's fear of motion sickness if it wants to survive.

I believe that casting the widest net slows down innovation. Consumers by default are pleasure seeking and avoid discomfort. But this also ignore new generations being brought up native in this environment. Those natives will set the standards.

The difference between flatscreen and VR is that discomfort is *part* of the experience for VR. It's not something to shy away from, it's something that really helps fill in the experience. Everything from pain when being hit in a VR world to physical exhaustion from running around only serves to improve the experience.

I have been into VR from day one. What people need to understand is if my 60 year old brain and eyes can adapt, so can anyone. The kids growing up with it today will for sure adapt even better. Right now the most important thing we can do is get the tech in as many kids hands as we can get. Thats the only reason I am so happy about PSVR 2. Our numbers will grow and pretty soon we will not even have to talk about VR sickness. This game is pushing it, I agree but the payoffs will be worth it.

I'm a lifelong Half-Life fanboy. I bought a VR headset and attended a video game art college course BECAUSE of the Half-Life: Alyx announcement. Yet, I'm equally hyped for Bonelab. I played through most of Boneworks shortly after finishing Alyx, but because I was still in the HLA "honeymoon" phase, I didn't realize at the time how awesome Boneworks was on its own merits. Alyx was simply Half-Life in VR, whereas Boneworks was VR's Half-Life, if that makes any sense. With Bonelab being available to non-PCVR players, and if the suggestion that Boneworks can be modded into Bonelab is true, I hope the larger gaming community will come to see that.

I was similarly excited about a game back in the day, 'Trespasser'. It focused on the world and physics. It was amazing, but a bit ahead of its time. Boneworks, was very similar in feel, and really felt evolutionary from it, but with the controls that could make it work. Being able to put a Boneworks game onto the Quest is huge. Some of my friends saw VR, but just didn't get why you would bother, when lots of games play 'fine' on flat screen. Boneworks/lab really shows what using the VR system to its fullest potential looks like.

The avatar system with it's statistics based on muscle, fat, height and weight etc, is amazing. Reminds me of Ready Player One where it is said that they do exactly the same thing. This game will arguably, be one of only a few "full games" content-wise on the Q2. Or really all of VR. Vast majority are basically tech demos. But more than that, it will be expanded by the community due to heavy modding support, which is amazing for longevity and replayability. The only thing that would make it better, would be if they add multiplayer, so we have a real Gmod for VR. They did it on Boneworks via mods, so I don't see why not here. I look forward to this game so much!

Let's stop being silly. Bonelab is not the "Most hyped VR game of all time". It looks great, don't get me wrong, and it's very hyped amongst VR enthusiasts. But it's not hyped outside of that VR bubble like Half Life: Alyx, which is a storied franchise on it's own, and made people buy VR headsets just for that game. @thelelanatorlol3978

Bonelab is absolutely the most hyped VR game of all time. Unlike boneworks, it's available on quest 2 which opens it up to like 90% of the market. A market of which lots of people have been looking for a boneworks experience. Aside from that, iI don't care if HL:A made some people buy VR headsets, that's not an example of hype levels, that's reputation preceding a product. In the case of HL:A, it's a what used to be fully flatscreen series coming to VR which naturally means fans have to buy a VR headset to play it. Bonelab had boneworks preceding itself and in this case it's a VR game having itself backed on the reputation of another VR game which will cause a massive explosion of VR headset owners buying the game. Also, most people not having heard of bonelab? Bro the game is well known within the wider VR community with only people living under rocks not having heard of it.

Yes, people who aren't VR enthusiasts are more than likely to have heard of HL: Alyx over Bonelab. That's my point. Perhaps we're thinking of the term "most hyped" in two different ways. I'm going off the idea that it means MORE people are hyped/excited for something, as opposed to the exact hype/anticipation levels. In that case, yes, Bonelab is very anticipated amongst VR enthusiasts. Of all time though? Still don't agree, but it's really mostly subjective at this point. I don't mean to shit on something you're excited about btw. Like I said I'm excited too, I just didn't agree with the "of all time" bit. Integrated modding isn’t a common thing and since Bonelabs is being made by SLZ who have a good reputation the hype is sort of earned. If you loved the physics, I guarantee you’d love the entire game that you somehow missed lol. You should give it another chance. You’ll probably still have some valid complaints, cuz it is a very ambitious indie game, but I’m absolutely confident in saying you won’t consider it just a tech demo after actually beating it. everyone keeps saying this game is for "enthusiasts" but being one myself this game just falls short in everything except for the physics..........the game itself is boring. no real story or emotional pull.....no multiplayer....just test dumby enemies to play with for a bit until you get bored

I think that full body ik is necessary for VR experience and I don't think that "it's to extreme it will cause motion sickness" no I don't think that should matter to anyone dumming down VR games making it more comfortable WILL RUIN VR making games colchicine and comfortable will ruin VR innovation is necessary it's like what half life 2 did for desktop games we NEED games like bonelabs we NEED games that take it to the next level and really do something other than being a glorified mobile game

I hope they'll manage to borrow some lessons from HL:Alyx and make level design not so boring as it was in Boneworks. It felt like a pancake FPS shooter. Such a waste of potential! =\

What's wrong with it being a tech demo? Doesn't Boneworks have in-game jokes about being a tech demo? Hell, Portal started as a tech demo lol.

Over the past week I’ve seen some strange “console wars” style arguments over this and boneworks vs “real” vr games like alyx. Imo people get dug into their camps and they either don’t care or don’t know about the quality of the “other team’s” game and they just trash on it because their side *has* to win. It’s goofy

Looks like you need to change your avatar for every movement like crawling or jumping, it could be more gimicy or tedious than it should be😬
@zennie846

Jumping or crawling? U can do that with any avatar some may be smaller to get into a small vent but to solve puzzles I don't think it will be annoying

You likely won't need to change your avatar at all if you want to. Smart movement and tool usage can allow you to do unimaginable things even in boneworks let alone bonelab.

_LOOKS_ like a tech demo? One is shooting glowing none differentiated bipeds, no rhyme or reason. It's great but... There seems to be no point...??? I guess I want immersion for my mind and soul not just my brain and body..? STORY and INTENT is key for me... It is ok. I just built my first Quest 2 game in Unreal Engine (having worked in Unreal for 6 years) I have most of the same mechanics as this game in PC, I will try to make what I want to play, because I think others will want the same. Only a certain category of... Player (and Human) is satisfied with something so simple, as to not even have a (real...) Story At the other extreme is Alyx, which made story TOO important and forgot Player freedom and expression, variation of outcome.. I felt like I was following a recipe or doing a paint-by-numbers in Alyx. I never even got into the city (or figured out how to unlock the first big gate-RoboFoot-thing!). It is ok. I just figured out how to have a working flashlight in Unreal 4.27 Quest 2 build.... Evil laugh¡!¡! ANYBODY WITH A GOOD GAME IDEA? I will make it... Give you credit, share profit equitably, Eric? ... I can make anything at this point...

Go make a VR TCG like MTG/Hearthstone/etc with in app purchases and a long term strategy and you will make $$$$$$$$$$

Don't see why the hype. It was a tech demo that I got bored with after 2 hours. I get what they tried to do with realistic physics and admire it, but didn't care for it in game. When I play a shooter I don't want to worry about if my imaginary avatar can pickup a weapon or not. This floppy stuff in your hands just wouldn't make a good FPS. I want to run and gun in a smooth environment. Maybe once the controllers get force feedback this would feel better.

UNderstandable. but do realize, you're not looking to play the type of game boneworks was. You are looking for games like pavlov and contractors.

For me it was the same, hardly got past the tutorial section. But not because of the interactions... it just didn't "click" for me as a game. I probably bought the game more because I think those guys are awesome (watched a LOT of their videos) and hoped the game would be fun (even though the previews seemed to focus way too much on physics instead of gameplay).

If you’re looking for traditional shooters or everyday VR games Boneworks isn’t your cup of tea. It’s about physics puzzle solving with a side of combat from time to time.

Yes, boneworks was a tech demo and it's still one of the best examples of a VR game to date. If you're looking for a less interesting flatscreen-like experience, there are plenty of fps VR shooters you can play.

boneworks does have specific worse qualities like the story which is certainly a game breaker for some people, but not most and the specific worse qualities do not translate to a generally worse game.

This game will flop hard , 40 eu from unknown game , it is not like RE4 or similar , not only this , but looks like is one of " mods" games like contractors or b&s nomads , but games like this cost 20 eu not 40 , i think pcvr users will buy it and a lot mainly because of bone works but for average quest 2 users for noname game for 40 eu , hard sell

Calling a stress levels zero games a noname or a unknown game is just not knowing anything about the vr landscape, yes it is the first time one of their game is getting a quest release but they definitely have made a name for themselves in the xr industry as other vr developement studio did too like Ready at dawn studio ( lone echo, lone echo2, echovr), Resolution Games( demeo, blaton) or more recently vertical robots( red matter and red matter2) and a lot of quest user were waiting for one of their game to release on quest
