One of the few concerts our little town had was The Statler Brothers. My husband bought me the record of I'll Go To My Grave as one of our anniversary presents, it was Our Song! We played it all the time. We got to go to the show, and as the consert was ending I was saddened because it wasn't sang. My husband excused him self. And before he returned...after the group ended and they had taking their bows, walking off stage, then back again for a standing ovation, they announced a very special request for a very special lady. Then sang Our Song. As the song ended I looked up and my husband had just returned smiling with tears in his eyes, giving me the thumbs up sign! He's gone on now but I play this special song and cry every time. So thankful to the Statler Brothers for giving so much enjoyment to so many, many fans! 🎵❤️

That was such a sweet thing for your husband to do for you and for the Statler's to do also. That was also my favorite song with a very special person in my life, that has also gone on. It was played (last minute for me) at the funeral.

Ya know....I've been a hard rockin' metal head all my life and, as a general rule, cannot stand country music. But, I could listen to these boys sing this song for eternity. I absolutely love this song.

It is 2023, and still, I love them more than ever. Born in Lexington, Virginia is thirty miles from Stanton. I have always said the two best things from Virginia, the most loved are The Statler Brothers and Secretariat.

One of Mama's favorite songs. I remember her playing it on the record player over and over again in the late '70s when I was a kid. That and Hank Williams. And Charlie Pride. Dolly Parton. Over and over for hours those records would spend Sometimes Late into the evening. I see now how utterly devastated she was that my father had died a year before. This music takes me back to that time.

This is one lovely song and the statlers only just come across them brilliant singer's. sad that lew wasn't there all the way to the end it's is voice that makes it . jimmy fortune is a good singer but it's never the same when one departs from a group and someone takes is place .
@Romans--bo7br6 жыл бұрын
Gary Elms.... it was Lew, who suggested and introduced the idea of Jimmy to the others to replace him... although they thought it would be only temporary until Lew went through his treatments.... which very sadly, did not work out that way in the end, but I don't think that they could have found a better replacement than they had in Jimmy... and he was (is) one heck of a song writer as well as a singer..... remember that the very first song that he wrote and performed with them... went straight to No.1 position on the charts.... "Elizabeth".... with many more that followed, over the years together.
@kevinmiller63243 жыл бұрын
@@Romans--bo7br Yep, you're right, Lew saw Jimmy singing at a ski resort in West Virginia, and brought him to the Statlers attention, suggesting they give him a tryout. It worked, so he was with the group temporarily until Lew was well enough to return to the group. Unfortunately this didn't pan out, and Lew stepped down as the group's tenor and Jimmy took over from there. Lew's health improved to the point where he made a comeback as a solo performer. Sadly his health declined again, and he died on August 15th, 1990 at the young age of 52. Thirty years later Harold followed him, dead of kidney failure at the age of 80, leaving behind his brother Don, and Phil Balsley, the two remaining original Statler Brothers.
