Normally, as a defence, one of the basic tenets is that you try and limit big gains to force the offense to be flawless across much more short plays. It's wild that an NFL OC decided to do that for the defense already.

What's so weird about them not using motion is that when he was a college OC, his offenses used a ton of pre-snap motion. A lot of this was to help James Connor and the run game, but it's weird how he's seemingly abandoned it in the NFL
@t4d0W Жыл бұрын
Canada actually uses motion on earlier downs. The problem is all that goes away in key 3rd and mid/long passing downs where having your speedster move and which defensive players shadow him can give a tell on what the defense could be sitting on post snap.
@dropthatshi Жыл бұрын
he uses motion but not in a way that actually causes misdirection for the opposing defense.
@nathantewkesbury8175 Жыл бұрын
*The pre-snap movements that Canada did in college even got McVay & Shannanhan attention. Problem is they took his stuff and trumped it to a whole other level I guess. Canada would use a “multiplayer Shift” followed by another player going into Jet or Orbit Motion all in one play. Idk if it’s a “Timing thing” like the NFL play clock, or maybe the terminology being too much for the QB or players to grasp and still have time for the QB to look at the Defense, and snap the ball. I have zero clue. Or maybe it’s Tomlin just taking it out of the offense b/c we did see the “Tackle Over” stuff with the TE and Tackle then go in Motion or Shift, early in the Canada reign. Not so much anymore. I just think this is the KEY to unlocking NFL Offenses and using multiple personnel to play the position-less football and take advantage of matchups*

I believe that was also the same game where Canada somehow got gifted a 1st and 5. His play after that was to run the ball. As a Steelers fan the offense is maddening to watch. You can tell watching it that the opposing defense knows what is coming because they make no movements once the offense breaks the huddle. Any decent OC would see that and make changes. And honestly no one really says it, but Tomlin deserves a chunk of the blame that no one seems to give him. He's obviously a defensive coach, he still is in the mind set of a defense can win every game. You can't do that in this league anymore. And he doesn't have an offensive mindset to really see through changes on that side of the ball. Or even do anything on the sideline. If you see him he's the only coach without a tablet or call sheet in his hand. You can't coach like anymore.

I think it’s funny how you point out how all the best offenses in the league all use motion at the snap, and how the Steelers don’t. I remember when Canada was promoted to OC, motion was his style, that he was going to bring motion into the offense. Most, if not all, of his motions are done presnap and they settle before snapping allowing the defenses to adjust and not have to adjust on the fly like you pointed out. Canadas offense IS ancient. I’m not sure this offense would even work at the high school level. Maybe peewee.

Steelers fan here. To all you fans of other teams, consider yourself lucky. Having to watch the Steelers offense is a lot like the Ludovico Technique from A Clockwork Orange. You feel sick, you're screaming for the torture to stop, but you just can't look away.

In nearly every play your showed there was a receiver on a route to the middle of the field. They are in the progressions. Nothing is stopping KP from throwing to the middle or down the numbers.
@anthonymaruca5370 Жыл бұрын
Correct you said he has progressions do you know his progressions? Most times you don’t get time to get to your 3rd 4th read. Ben also didn’t use middle of field with Canada. And can’t use arm strength bc throws to MOF are shorter then outside of numbers

Been waiting on this episode since you mentioned it in the last video. As a film buff and football guy, it feels great to hear someone else confirm everything I’ve been seeing for years. It makes me sick that we have 3 All Pro’s on defense and we’ve had a junior high offense for the last 5 seasons. They need to play this on the Jumbotron at tonight’s game. Maybe Mike T will take notes 📝

Tomlin is only there for one reason. And he can't be fired because of his protected class privilege

I know Pickett has not looked great this year, but not for lack of trying. In the 4th, he’s just different and I have to believe it’s because he’s decided that the OC has called a bad game and just gets mad and balls out. I also believe the predictability of the offense has held Najee back from his full potential The last two years. I don’t think Najee is the next AP, but he’s damn sure better than what this offense has given him. Canada needs to go, and maybe even Tomlin at this point. That’s more of a stretch but he can’t see the forest through the trees it seems right now.

As an LSU fan, I have no idea why he ever got a job anywhere else. We had historically great offenses after he left, but were notoriously defense-heavy while he was there.

I don't think you even mentioned how braindead the insistence that Canada and the o-line coach are in terms of schematics as well. The tired zone blocking scheme they employ doesn't play to any of the linemens strengths and is a big reason for the poor 1st and 2nd down runs as Warren and Harris have to make something out of nothing. Isaac Seumalo has somehow gone from one of the best offensive linemen in the league to one of the worst and Mason Cole has gone from a solid above average piece to one of the worst linemen in the league. It gives me a headache watching these guys not being played to their strengths which just makes Canada's incompetence shine a little bit more

The mainstream media needs to see this video, since they quite obviously have not even watched the Steelers games this season, or are incapable of understanding what they are seeing. They keep on publishing articles that crap all over Steelers fans as if we are sheep herded by "high expectation frustration" and "crowd rage". No, media sleuths, try because Steeler Nation are the most savvy fanbase in all of sports, and we KNOW WHAT WE ARE WATCHING. Thank you for this video that sums it all up, even for the blind and hard of hearing, Sir!
