@@simonhenry888 exactly! I've heard quite a few people complain that "Seattle only lost this game because of the bad refs". And I guess I can concede that maybe a couple calls might have been questionable at best. Nothing close to egregious. But that kind of officiating doesn't cause a team to lose by 11 points lol. It's not like there was a missed pass interference call on a Seahawk receiver in the end zone for the go ahead TD or something. They lost the game because they got outplayed.

One of the worst officiated game ever. Refs blatantly favored the steelers imo. Remarkable its not scrutinized more.
@SuperTugz Жыл бұрын
Some awful calls in that game but also remember Seattle allowed a simple handoff to go 70+ yds for a TD, bit on the most obvious trick play ever (everyone knew Randle El was a QB in college and Pittsburgh ran that same play 5 or 6 times that season), Jeramy Stevens dropped 3 or 4 passes, and they ran the clock out on themselves to set up a missed field goal before halftime. Despite the officiating, Seattle should have still won the game by 2 touchdowns at least simply by playing fundamentally-sound football, which they did not do. Hey the Steelers probably did pay off the refs, at least that showed more desire to win than the Seahawks showed. And as far as the Steelers "barely making the playoffs as a 6 seed" the AFC was absolutely stacked. They were 11-5 and tied with Cincinnati, the Bengals won the division on a tie-breaker. A few years later I think 2008 or 2009 the 11-5 Patriots actually missed the playoffs.

This game had so many bad calls but the Ben TD wasn't one of them. The ball looks like it breaks the goal line by maybe a few inches. Its so freaking close. But It's one of those plays where you have to stick with how it was ruled on the field. Replay isn't conclusive enough to reverse the call either way.
@brando44223 жыл бұрын
Problem is the first official rule was down, then the ref remembered what he was supposed to call or do then changed his decision. By the point he decided to raise his right arm with his left the quarterback could have shimmied just enough or gotten his arm with the ball pushed just enough back. I didn't care for that super bowl but watched none of us were fans of either but everyone decided to go into the pool since we all felt this game was decided before hand. This was the first time and without trying I felt rigging. Before this I was just a sports fan and young so conspiracy was the last thing on my mind at this point in my life.

What happened on Seattle's last drive is something that would NEVER happen in todays game. Teams have developed their 60 second drills to perfection. Heck, KC scored a FG after Bills TD when there was 13 seconds left. So they went from own 25 to FG in 13 seconds. Seattle had +40 seconds and they were clueless what to do! The Refs didn't make the Seahawks give up the longest run in Super Bowl History, for a 75 yard touchdown, They didn't make them give up a 37 yard completion on 3rd and 28, they didn't make them give up the only touchdown pass thrown by a wide receiver in the History of the Super Bowl for 43 yards. They didn't make the Seahawks go 5 of 17 on 3rd down, or get sacked three times and picked another. They didn't make all of their deep balls fall incomplete, or their clock management terrible or their field goal kicker miss two kicks or their league MVP get held under 100 yds. Some other things they did and didn't do. They did pick up a flag that was thrown against Seattle on a possible helmet to helmet, they did blow the whistle when Jeramey Stevens fumbled, they did negate a five yard gain by, of all people, Jerome Bettis, on an offensive pass interference call on TE Heath Miller. They didn't throw a flag when Roethlisberger was blocked in the back during the int return, they didn't throw a flag when he slid down in the first quarter and was hit late, they didn't throw a flag on the last play of the first quarter when Nate Washington was held down field from getting under the ball. They did however, reach for the flag to call offensive pass interference on Darrel Jackson the moment it happened, but missed the flag and then had to go for it again. The Ref did see D. Jack push off with full extention and an advantage gained towards the ball right in front of him. It's the sort of play that if a DB does the same thing a flag is never questioned. They did throw a flag for Offensive Holding when Shawn Locklere, with closed fingers, got his arm out in front of Clark Haggins, and pulled Haggins down to the ground when Hasselbeck was about to be sacked. They didn't throw a flag on Haggins for being off sides because he did not cross the line of scrimmage until the ball was snapped. He anticipated the snap, which 3-4 Linebackers have been doing since the 1980's, and got it right after three quarters of studying it. They did grant the Steelers a TD when the tip of the ball crossed the plane of the goal line while Roethlisberger was airborne. What the Steelers didn't do was fall in to the West Coast Offense trap of over pursuit and jumping routes and what they did do was make big plays on the biggest stage and what Seattle didn't do was prevent those plays and make big plays of their own. What Seattle did do was lose Super Bowl XL fair and square.

Not pass interference of jackson, they called a chop block on hasselbeck even though he was trying to tackle the DB on the INT return, Ben definitely didnt make it in and even admitted to it on a late night tv show. That alone changes the momentum, and there's at least 2-3 plays I'm not listing.
@Price704 жыл бұрын
@@eXpLiiiSiT if you extend your arm fully and gain separation its pass interference all day. It was so obvious you can see the ref immediately reach for the flag but he missed it and had to grab again. The fans behind the play although Steelers fans, still instantly started showing the push off sign. The tip of the ball while in the air breaks the plane and the ref immediately puts one hand up palm sideways for a TD then follows with the other. If he was changing his mind after Ben hit the ground and pushed it over he would have had his palm facing out for stopping the play non TD. The Hasselbeck call was a naked eye mistake but he was attempting to do what he was called for but the Blocker jumped over him to avoid having his knees taken out.

@@Price70 the ref admits that seattle would have won this game if called right. Also it doesnt seem a little weird that it was jerome bettis final game in his hometown in the super bowl. They wanted him to win. Every sports channel knew seattle was better and yet 90% of the stuff aired on tv was steelers shit.
