The Stems interview Australia 1987

The Stems interviewed for Australian TV 1987. Recorded on BASF E240 at SP, mono audio, the tape came as a trade with young Steve, who educated me in many Aussie bands at that time. Steve would just recorded whatever he liked and make up compilation tapes to send over to me in Scotland.

One of the finest garage rock exponents ever, kept the original edge but added their own touch, should have gone on a bit longer. Saw them back in the day, fabulous live, so exciting and looked cool as F.

Such a vibrant music scene in Australia in the mid-80s - Scientists, Lime Spiders, Died Pretty, Hoodoo Gurus. My good friend Tull performed a similar role to your Steve, pointing me towards the best in music

Love The Stems, their garage power pop was a cool alternative in Australia at the time. Dom Mariani is still out there now with his band Datura 4. RIP Richard Lane.

Australian music at this point in time was fantastic. I still have all my old 7' singles from Stems, Wet Taxis, Gurus and so many more.

Loved them in 1987 and saw the play a bit then suddenly they broke up! I still have the cassette of their first album!
