On this generation of Fords you can press buttons 3 and 6 together on the factory stereo to do a full speaker test. We used to do that before installs to verify all speakers are working. Love these install videos. You guys make it look a lot easier than it was when I was doing it.

My amp harness has two blue and white wires and two black n white wires any idea on the correct setup?

@@Peeteetskeet The two blue and white wires get spliced together and goto the power output wire from the volt39. The two black and white are grounds for the amp. I didn’t hook mine up but everything sounds good. I just installed a navigation/dvd double din in my 03 GT and got all the harnesses and spent 3 hours soldering the harness last night and installed radio today. In this video his amp harness doesn’t have the black and white wires, so I didn’t use mine. But I’m not sure if they need to be grounded or not.

I used a 7805 voltage regulator (12V in, 5 V out) for the amp turn on. Works great.

For those curious how to drop the resistance with resistors, you can get two 1.2k ohm resistors, twist and end of each together leaving you a y shape. The bottom of the y (where they are connected, goes to amp turn on from the radio, one of the top legs of the y to ground and the other to the cars amp turn on. That's a voltage divider and works most of the time, worst case scenario the pop is much quieter.

I used a 7805 voltage regulator to drop the 12 VDC amp activation voltage to 5 VDC. It works great. Costs about $2 to build it yourself.

Lots of great information here, but there is a glaring mistake. The title of this clip addresses installing a double-din head unit for 2000 - 2004 Mustangs, however it only applies to 2001 - 2004 Mustangs. The 2000 and earlier Mustangs have a completely different dash configuration structurally requiring MAJOR modifications to install a double-din head unit. Even Crutchfield doesn't list this as a fitment option without major warnings. I moved from a 2003 Mustang to a 2000 Mustang thinking my new uninstalled double-din unit would work without problems. Not so due to the change in the Mustang dash support brackets after the 2000 model year.

cool thing you can do is buy a double din OEM trim for your 2000 mustang to my knowledge the only difference is the center trim spliter but everything else like the clips the cigarette lighter est are in the extract same spot you can find it here if you like lmr.com/item/LRS-04338B/01-04-Mustang-A-C-And-Radio-Control-Bezel

@@shizzl3 Got my 01-04 bezel off ebay with the factory air vent cutoffs and factory color, jb welded the plastic double din frame kit to it. Then screwed the radio into the plastic frame kit. Then trimmed the dash of to get good fitment and then made a support to slide in the side in between the bottom of my pioneer and on top of the factory amp. It's not top bad just a little time consuming and tedious.

There's a simple way and a two more complex ways to do it. I did the easy way, which is to buy the 01-04 shifter bezel and also the trim bezel to use to mount the new double din to directly. Then get your double din radio and the plastic kit that you would use to mount it into an 01-04. Check the frame fitment to the trim bezel, I had to dremel mine slightly for best fitment. Then mount the plastic kit to the radio to keep it in square with the radio as that's how it's going to look in the car. Next comes the most tedious part, JB Weld the plastic kit/frame to the actual trim bezel that clips into the dash. Take your time and do this carefully. This is where the fitment with the dremel from earlier helps to make sure you have good contact for a good cure and hold. Let the whole cure and now your radio and bezel are one piece, unless you unscrew the radio from the plastic kit which is easy and is how you change to a new radio years later if you decide to do so, so they aren't completely permanently attached. Now you need to prep the dash for the new bezel. Remove all the factory stuff, shift bezel, trim bezel, radio, cd player and the mounting rail that those go on that's bolted to the sub dash. Now cut off the ears on each side of the dash as they get in the way of the double din going in so if you decide to do this there is no going back to stock with this exact dash. Keep test fitting the dash and dremeling as necessary for best fitment. This may work fine for a long time as the trim bezel can just about rest on the lower shifter bezel to help support the weight off the air vents up top. I however also cut a piece of wood to exact size to slip in the side from the passenger footwell to go inbetween the bottom of the double din and the top of the front factory amp. The more complex way to do it is to buy a complete 01-04 dash and swap it in, it's only a few bolts but you will have to disconnect and take everything out maybe even center console included. The most complex way to do it would be to either go to a junkyard and cut out the part of the sub dash needed and weld it in or make your own and weld it in. Oh also the traction control button will need to be changed as it's not located on the newer shifter bezel but up on the trim bezel. You can use the old shift bezel but it doesn't seem to line up as well. I'm still working on wiring mine in, I don't drive my car very often so I haven't been in a rush to get it finished but if you need help you can find me on insta @cotaylor16 also have pictures of what I did so you can visually see what I mean. It looks like the stock radio is what I have with the 6 CD changer. When I went to replace mine, there were 3 connectors and an antenna lead on the back of the stock radio. This video doesn't really say what all the connectors are for. The main one with the power connections and the antenna are a no-brainer but I'm wondering about the other 2 connectors. I believe one of those is for the subwoofers but I don't know what the other one is. I don't have an amplified subwoofer system. Looks like I need to install one more connector for the subwoofers since my system has no bass since installing my Pioneer. Otherwise this video was helpful even though it was fast paced. One other thing, my Pioneer has a DVD player which requires a parking brake connection (if you want to watch DVD's) so that you can watch DVD's when parked. I haven't found a video that provides instructions for connecting that wire.

@@joshkhayes It's a speed sensor input. It's used to adjust the volume of the audio to try to compensate for road noise. There's no speed sensor input on any of the aftermarket radios that I have looked at.

Great Video! It gives me hope I might be able to freshen up my 2002 Mustang GT with Mach 460 system. The CD player has been stuck for years. My guess is that the third OEM wiring harness is for features such as automatic audio level adjustment that is controlled by vehicle speed in order to overcome road noise. There's probably other things that the third OEM harness controls also. But, my new head doesn't use that harness.

One thing I've noticed in every video about these installs is that no one connects the long light green wire to the parking brake. If I read my written info correctly, the light green wire can be attached directly to the ground which is what happens when the parking brake is activated. I'll be doing my install tomorrow and will verify that with my multimeter

The resister to knock down the voltage to 5 V could be used but a 7805 voltage regulator would be more precise.

There's a third OEM harness for my Mach 460 system and if I'm reading the wiring diagrams correctly that third OEM harness is a speed sensor input that controls the OEM head units volume (there's a setting for it). Apparently, the aftermarket units don't have that option.

actually we used the enclosure off the read deck when we did these cars it helps produce more midbass on the new speakers. both cars types. YES I worked in a Shop as a Paid Pro. with by the looks of it your age or older and about as much exp. if not more.

Great video. I just installed a double-din JVC head unit to my 01 mustang with a Mach 460 system. At the end of the video, you mention setting your high pass crossovers. I'm finding it difficult to know whether to use a 2 or 3-way crossover and what frequencies I should put for the crossovers. Right now, I'm doing 3-way and putting the tweeters at 3khz, the front and rear high pass at 150hz, and the subwoofer at 80 Hz. I'm noticing the sound is a bit boomy but I'm lost as far as why. If you could provide any insight that'd be awesome. Or anyone else here?

Some people told me that I should plug in to the Left and Right audio instead of the subwoofer jacks. But there's a video over at Pioneer that explains how to use the subwoofer jacks with the rear speakers.

@@jamesbrown2492 I couldn't find the Pioneer video again but if you listen at 8:50 of this video you'll hear the installer say to connect the RCA plugs from the Metra cable into the subwoofer jacks on the back of the unit. I tried the other jacks but the subwoofer jacks gave the best bass performance.

10k ohm resistor I believe works. Lets see been a few years Brown,black,red,gold I looked to ck after putting down its correct, that gives you just under 2 volts from 12 volts or 14.4 VDC it will turn a amp on in that car. You should isolate it with a diode too the band faces the amp away from the radio. Use a 10 amp diode. Radio ------I--- Amp this way positive current will only flow to the amp from the radio and negative current will flow from the amp to the radio. hook like this radio -----I--I--I--I---/-----I---- Amp or Radio resistor diode amp.

Nice Video again! Now to another topic When You guys Install Subwoofer in Cars with seperated trunks i See every time that you use normal vented Subwoofer. Why no 4th order subs with the ventelation Tube inside the cabin? You guys should check Out the VOLKSBANDPASS , it have a very simple Box Design and what you get for the Money is the best! You have to get a deck with more than 1 set of rca outputs or you can buy from Walmart a rca splitter which is a short rca plug with 1 male rca on one end and 2 female rca outputs on the other end, it look like a Y shape when layedout. They sell it at Walmart for under 5 bucks with 2 in the package. I hope this helps you! Trying to install a pioneer stereo but it’s not the same model. I color coded all the wires, plugged it in and the radio didn’t turn on. Does that mean that the pac volt 39 is necessary?

If the radio did not power up you need to check you yellow and red wires for 12 volt. Check the black for ground. The volt 39 is to just prevent turn on pop from the factory amp.

soldering is a waste of time! twist the wires together and use crimp caps Klein Crimpers the kind that put a divot in the crimp. you get the very same outcome for resistance and the black tape won't come off because of heat. The factory uses Crimps the don't even tape the connection just wrap the whole harness Seen that on a few cars. Non insulated crimps even. I think that was a Chevy cavalier above the driver kick in a main wire harness from the firewall. But I've seen it in fords too.

Soldering does help a lot actually, especially if your in cold climates with high humidity, a heat shrink wrapped solder joint wont corrode as had as a twisted electrical taped one, I know from experience lol
