I just tuned in, but omg I'm so excited for this!! I can't believe anyone is reacting to them 🥹

Glad you liked it, Andy! It's nothing earth-shattering. Not everything needs to be. It's just good ol' early aughts indie pop. I will say I wish the production was a bit less clean, but I enjoy this album very much despite that. It falls off a bit in the latter half, but still worth a listen overall.

When this came album came out 20 years ago my wife was pregnant with our first child, our son. It got a lot of play around our house in his first year, and so I have a lot of resonance associated with this music that honestly has less to do with the record and more with the emotional memories it triggers. That said, I really liked the songs. They were reminiscent of Echo and the Bunnymen and (curiously) The Chameleons’ album, Script of the Bridge. The opening track, Lola Stars and Stripes, was one I often played loudly, and it would oddly, even at volume, soothe my son to sleep. (It should be the next one you hit.) Thanks for brightening a nice corner of my memory bank.

A bit indie rock ordinaire for me and over-produced. I did appreciate some of the twiddly bits which elevated it somewhat.

I'm just surprised this was John's choice. Not for me this one. like someone below said, over produced for the mainstream market to my ears. But lyrics were the best part. They must have better songs?
