Another cruel thing about feet and stocks: Goat licking. To summarize, in the old ages, people get their ankles in stocks and people coat their feet in salt water. Next, they bring in a goat to lick their soles to get the salt water. After that, they pour more and the goats continue licking them until the flesh is scraped by the rough tongues.

I've actually had this done to me. it was at one of those renaissance fairs a couple years back, these dudes try to get "victims", place your ankles in stocks, take your shoes and socks off, and tickle your feet in front of a crowd. It was a little embarrassing because you feel kind of vulnerable with a crowd laughing at you, and the guys who pull you in are a tad insistent so it's hard to say no to them bc they basically drag you. Just a heads up for anyone who's actually planning to go to a Renaissance fair in the future. 😬

We still get our fix from public humiliation via the internet. Look at the "Karen" videos and cancel culture. Now I'm not in support of most everyone who has been "canceled" considering many of them have done some very terrible if not criminal thing's, yet we have to ask ourselves, what's a just punishment? For many of these people they can't escape their infamy, making finding work, friends, and housing all very difficult. Same can be said for convicted felons. As a society we originally agreed that crimes have consequences, nothing wrong with that... but now after someone completes their sentence, say an assault for example, someone knocked someone out with a bottle and they had to do 1 year in state prison with 2 years probation. 3 years later they are off probation and considered a free citizen with a felony assault on their record. Technically they should be able to forge a new and productive path in life but in America people with convictions are beat down by the system to where it's no surprise many end up committing more crimes. If you got out of prison wanting to restart but found out that hardly anywhere would hire you or let you live there as well as people finding out about your past and shunning you, how would you feel? You'd be trapped by stigma for something you did maybe decades ago, only wanting to do better but not being given the chance. Basically everyone with a felony record gets a life sentence of limitations in society, I know from personal experience.
