His name was Nicolae Minovici (1868-1941) and he hanged himself 12 times (between 4 to 26 seconds) to understand what those that suicided thought and felt. As a result he revolutionized the scientific world through his research on hanging. He had some assistants who helped him unhang itself if the situation looked extremely dangerous hence the 12 survived attempts.

Hanging is hardly one of "the worst punishments in the history of mankind". It's actually one of the least awful execution methods, unless it's combined with drawing and quartering. Compared to crucifixion, impaling, beheading, the breaking wheel, burning at the stake, or being stomped on by an elephant, it's downright mild, roughly on par with execution by firing squad. That said, it's still an execution method, so it would still be a terrifying, painful experience that ended one's life...

To be honest, this is just so brutal, it's one thing to get gassed, shot, get 200 volts running in your body on a chair, and to get drugged to death. But getting your neck snapped as the punishment is a whole other level of death. The fact that kids died here, including actual children doesn't help, I understand being frustrated with kids because they broke the law, but most kids don't even read the rules so they would of course do bad things, it's just natural for a kid, they simply haven't developed their sense of empathy or don't understand the gravity of their actions.

She was used to contracting out food deliveries, supplying uniforms for the prisoners, etc. One day, we was called in and told she needed to find and contract a hangman. @@mattmccallum2007 Wow! 1977 in a western country a man got his head cut off legally by the government. I am in the U.S.A. and we still have capital punishment here. In the past we did it by hanging, gas chamber, firing squad, the electric chair, and most recently lethal injection. Sometimes any one of these methods can go wrong and not produce the desired results. When that happens, it's a bad day for the guy on the receiving end. When we used the firing squad, I am told the squad were each given rifles already loaded. One of them was loaded with a blank and none of them knew who got the one with the blank. I don't know which ones out of all those methods are still in use today. Each state makes its own laws on it.

Depending on the year. You actually had to pay to stay in prison. You could buy your own bed or share one for a cheeper price. If you had no money youd sleep on the floor. You also had to pay to leave after your time was served. Most people in prison where debtors around this time so they had no money. When released they'd steal and commit crimes to pay their debts off. Then they're sent back to prison.

Owensboro Kentucky was the last city to execute a public hanging, which went so wrong that Kentucky actually changed its tune VERY quickly. This man was accused of the R word after a very small trial. A subject of controversy as it was. A mayor in the city in 1936 decided it were to be an event. A carnival style viewing with food, games, etc. After it came time to hang the man, he was instantly graverobbed. Bloodthirsty human beings ripping his clothes off and keeping his belongings. This shocked the state into never doing something like this again.

In the Belfast Goal or jail, the guards would stay in the cell with the prisoner 24hrs before the execution to prevent suicide. The guards and the prisoner would play cards and talk during the 24hr watch, then suddenly after the 24hrs one of the walls in the room would open and reveal a secret room. The guards would then grab the prisoner and quickly set him up to hang so he didn't have time to react. A sad way to go.

The death penalty: 1.doesn't deter crime 2. Costs more. 3. Doesn't bring the closure to victims families as was expected (according to studies). 4. Is applied to the poor and minorities more often, *_for the same crimes_* 5. Has killed and will keep killing *INNOCENT* people

Death penalty doesn’t cost more than live in prison
@eliz_scubavn4 жыл бұрын
Jorrit van der Kooi yes it does, at least in the US. Factor in the costs of appeals and the actual costs of keeping them in prison and you rack up a massive bill which dwarfs the costs of simply giving them a life sentence.

Agreed. Thank goodness that the UK dismantled its scaffold and stopped hanging people.

In the town my dad lives in there is a museum that is actually inside the original prison. There is an area in there that they left the way it was found. They only added notes about criminals who had died in the room. One that caught my eye was an outlaw who would cause gun fights and steal, he got the death penalty of being hung, they put him on top of a chair inside the room and tied a thick rope to the roof and around his neck, also tying his hands behind his back. When he was asked his final words all he said was “adios” and kicked the chair out from under himself.

Hanging was both simple and complicated. If weight is calculated correctly, and the noose is correctly knotted( behind the ear) the neck breaks. If it's not done correctly, the victim could choke to death.

We've gone too far the other way now though. Now it's ridiculously lenient, especially in England. Some crimes should still get these sorts of punishments.

Actually in Ireland the last person who was executed by this method was a man named “Micheal manning” in 1954 for murdering a nurse named “Catherine Cooper” And in Ireland we abolished capital punishment in 1990.

I am a fan of infographics, and have been for some time now. Thank you so much for your contributions and consistent hard work. This video however telling people how to hang themselves, weights, lengths heights and the saying how there's no thoughts or feelings left, I'm not sure if that's what you mean to represent, however it could seriously impact your image and fan base. Once again, thank you, and I look forward to watching more of your videos!

No pain, but an uncomfortable death. Looks a lot worse than it really is. Unconscious is seconds, and death in a matter of minutes. No pain, just pure nothingness.
