Folks if you have not watched any of these videos. Stop what you are doing and watch this!! I'm really glad the timestamps were added. That's really helpful. I have been keeping my own notes: ianfrantz.com/2018/dr-sadler-the-stoic-heart/

Why does their website not list you as "PROF. Greg Sadler"? Are you not teaching right now, Greg?

Well, as you undoubtably know, not all people who teach in higher education are professors. More than half at this point are adjuncts and don't have the title of professor. And, since you googled me before writing, you also know that I left my post as a professor at FSU and became an adjunct at Marist in 2011, right? As it turns out, I was awarded the rank of "Adjunct Professor" at one of the places I teach earlier this year. I actually wrote about it in my main blog earlier today

@@GregoryBSadler I was actually looking up information on Stoicon 2019 and was looking over the speakers from other years and I found this video.

Stoic practice or belief as a science is curious in the context of modern cognitive psychology, that which abrogates the idea of free will in order to ameliorate forms of desire and the immediate grasp of the idealisation of virtue such as is fundamental to Stoic practice. Modern cognitive psychology rather suggests dominant personality traits are strong predictors of rational and irrational behaviour.

So much the worse for (some) modern cognitive psychology. Ignoring central aspects of human existence in order to be "scientific" produces inadequate theory and practice.

Wonderful thank you.😊 Which book of Epititus's writings can I find the chapter he wrote about loneliness/solitude you mentioned?

I think this niche (which looks more like a strip mining site to me) you're stepping in is really difficult especially if you're trying to find solutions or fixing anything. Trust is extremely limited commodity nowadays. Idk. Happily single since 2014. If I ever come across my last ex, id prolly very predisposed and buy her a beer or something for pushing me towards opening my eyes on the treacherous part of women. The ones who will be prolly worth seem too little and too far in between for a guy to pair up with.

I'm not saying you've been indoctrinated by the so called, "Red Pill" movement, but if you have, it would be wise to spit that placebo right out of your mouth. I'm in no place to lecture anyone or tell someone how they should live their life, as I strive to be a better individual. We all seek validation in one way or another, but you should accept yourself for who you are, all the while keeping your mind open. We can't control those around us or our environment. We can only control how it affects us. I think that's the whole point of stoicism.. Find peace within yourself, my friend.
