Once I went to the music store, they had extra price for some yamaha bass, that's how I got my battle axe, then I covered it with rock and astrophysics stickers and put it to the service to make it perfect. They altered a neck a bit, change some frets and did some magic, so after that every band I've been in asked if there is some fuzz/overdrive/chorus hidden inside for it has unique sound. It ain't legendary yet but man, just give me 10 more years ;)

The fact that a Hammet owns that Les Paul breaks my heart. That poor thing is going to die a slow horrible death having him play it. And it wasn't a factory mistake that made the guitar out of phase it was a repair where the neck pickup magnet was put in backwards and pickup installed backwards. The pickup is physically out of phase not electrically.

In the next video, maybe cover Rick Nielsen’s Hamer double-neck, Randy Rhoads’ Jackson Concord, Slash’s ‘58 Les Paul that they just recently discovered was one of the very first “Burst” guitars? (I think it’s a ‘58, anyway.) Great video!

In 1961 the country/bluegrass band Betty Amos, Judy Lee and Jean (now in the country music hall of fame) were in a plane crash in Alaska on their way to a USO show. Amazingly, they all survived (almost crashed flying back to the southern 48). About a month after the crash Eskimos found Judy Lee Schreiber's 1958 Gretsch Chet Atkins Country Gentleman and sent it back to her. She did nothing to restore it and immediately started playing it again. A few months ago she asked me to build her a replacement that she can tote around and sent me some pictures of the guitar as it is now. She still uses it to play local venues around Nashville! The story of the crash is documented and is one heck of a story! She used to take a soldering iron with her on the road to rewire or fix pots, etc. She was friends with Chet Atkins and herJudy Lee personally played her guitars on a number of occasions. Honestly, I don't know how I can possibly come close to building a guitar to rival something like this, but I am humbled and honored to get the opportunity!

Michael hamptons 'fat strat' 1973/74. A 17 year old Michael hampton (less known, i know) played maggot brain note-for-note, at a party that george clinton was at. It blew him away, and with the recent incarceration of eddie hazel, had mike join funkadelic as the new lead guitarist. He bought mike a strat, mike had a reverse headstock neck added to it, had the single coils replaced with humbuckers, and decorated with rhinestones. This may have been one of the first 'fat strats', and was used in many of pfunks live performances and recordings. Mike is an extremely underrated guitarist. I doubt he'd make any of these lists, but he is up there with the greats. Eddie hazel, as well, except itd be impossible to find any detailed information about his guitars to make a list.

Hey there, Vai just named his pickups after the Harley engines. "At the same time, I was also working with DiMarzio designing a new pickup. There were four that we experimented with and each was named after a Harley Davidson engine style. They were the Flathead, Knucklehead, Panhead and Evolution. The one I liked the most was the Evolution, so DiMarzio put them into production and they are still available." www.vai.com/minisites/EVO/history_frameset.html

I used to have a beautiful Ibanez Jem with a root beer finish. It played like a dream. Sold it during tough times, and by then, I was a Gibson-holic. Wish I still had it in my arsenal. It was luscious.

Clapton’s “Blackie” Strat. Bought out a pawnshop’s supply of strats and took out all his favorite pieces from the ones he bought and built blackie out of the parts.

There is a strat that Dave Murray from Iron Maiden played for about 20 years between 1970 and 1990, and it was owned by legendary guitarist of band Free, Paul Kossoff. It's an interesting story, you can check it out.

Vai didn't get the white Jems until around 1993. They each had different Dimarzio prototypes in them and THAT is what got the Harley names, not the actual guitars. Evo was named for the Evolution pickups in that particular Jem. Minor details, but important nonetheless.

Of all my guitars, my replica of the Peter Green LP Lemondrop (by Vintage) remains my all-time 'go-to' guitar. I bought it originally because of that out of phase pick-up tone but two or three gigs later, I knew I found 'The One'.

That's pretty goddamned funny that Billy Gibbons won't even let anyone look at his supposed Moderne. Not because it reminds me of that scene in Spinal Tap, but because it's just funny all on its own.

I suggest you do Tony Iommi's black John Birch SG that was stolen and returned twice because the thieves were convinced it was cursed.

Another cool fact about Steve Vai's JEM guitars is that one of them was used for the Mjolnir Mix of the Halo Theme.

I'd like to see one of Billy Gibbons guitars, he's got a few interesting guitars. Also, Bo Diddley, he had a couple interesting guitars as well. Jack White too.

Respectfully, kirk Hammett didn't pay 2M$ for Greeney. He explains that story in the Gibson Icons series. Wonderful story with a great guitar with such rich rock and roll history
