It's so beautiful that Billy Joe's mother gave him a guitar when she saw his talents, most parents try to discourage their children when they tend to the musician side, but she not only encouraged him, she being a widow with a big family to take care of, turned herself inside out, bought him Blue and gave him support in his dreams. And now he's the head of most people's favorite band, including me

I have a big piece of the stickers from Blue. The stickers can be seen in a ton of promos, videos and live footage from mostly around the Nimrod days. They must have been peeling off or something because Billie ripped em off during a sound check in San Diego during the Warning tour, I grabbed the pieces and I've held onto them ever since....Its most of the Criminals skull sticker and some of The Queers All Stars sticker with a fat stack of stickers behind them. Kinda weird...Not something I could prove but I know what they are so it's kind of cool I think.

I love that you included The Log in your video! I've long held a great deal of admiration for Les Paul, both as a musician and an inventor. I own the rejected Gibson Les Paul, the one he didn't like. They're now called Gibson SG and I prefer it to the heavier GLP model. What gets me about Mr. Paul is that his career nearly ended in a car crash when his right arm was shattered. Faced with possible amputation, he asked the doctors to set his arm and elbow at the angle which would allow him to keep playing to see if it would heal. His arm was set at that angle for the rest of his long life, but he was able to keep playing. Ranks right up there with Django Reinhardt and Tony Iommi if you ask me, which you didn't!

The pickups on Les Pauls log were stacked humbuckers. He built them years before Seth Lover or Ray Butts ever started experimenting with humbuckers. Les also put dummy coils in the P90 LP Custom prototype that was his main guitar from 1954 until the Les Paul Personal in the late 60’s years before others started using dummy coils to quiet 60 cycle hum.

I actually have the same make, model, and year of Billy-Joe Armstrong’s “Blue” the only sad part is it’s red, it hasn’t been through near as much as his and is still all 100% original (paint, bridge, saddles, everything) but it’s still awesome and can actually get REALLY close to sounding exactly like “Dookie” wit only a fender mustang 2 with very basic amp settings.

Any thoughts on the insanely rare Martin D-18E cobain played on Unplugged, overly customized to the point of sounding like a cross between a banjo and an acoustic guitar in tone from all the metal. He bought it without a clue only a couple hundred exist, and the highly televised appearance on Mtv made getting ahold of one next to impossible. The current status and ownership is in the center of a terrible legal dispute between his daughter and her ex husband, who has it on the grounds that it was given to him as a honeymoon present. The guitar is now one of (if not the most) valuable guitars in the world and the very messy legal case on has yet to close.

My favourite tale of Rory's guitar was how he told his mother that it can do both the rhythm and the lead parts, so his band would only need one guitarist (him), so there'd be more money in it. And since we're on the topic of Ireland's bluesiest son , I'll use it as an excuse to play one of my favourite clips of him - kzbin.info/www/bejne/eonOXmCbgZpgobM Playing with Scotland's bluesiest son (the one and only Jack Bruce, ony of my favourite musicians of all time and it's not just because he's a fellow weegie), it appears he learned the riff literally seconds before they played the tune and he absolutely owns it. 5:57 - To be fair, £100 in the early 60s would still translate out to over $1000 today with inflation factored in. And beyond that, the Irish economy wasn't quite as competitive as England in those times, though I'm sure southern Ireland fared well enough being on the opposite end of where The Troubles took place.

Rory Gallagher may have had the first Strat in Ireland, but the first one in the UK was actually a fiesta red maple neck Strat bought by Cliff Richard in 1959 for Hank Marvin to play in his band The Shadows. Hank played it with Cliff and The Shadows both live and in the studio. The Shadows first hit without Cliff Richard “Apache” was recorded on this guitar. In about 1961 Hank gave the guitar back to Cliff when Fender offered the Shadows an endorsement deal. Cliff kept it until the mid 70s and at some point had the guitar resprayed white. Bruce Welch (rhythm guitarist for The Shadows) was working with Cliff on an album and asked if he could borrow it. He then told Cliff he wasn’t getting it back, had it resprayed back to red, and has kept it ever since. He plays the guitar in every live appearance he makes and takes it everywhere with him. Cliff has said he doesn’t mind if Bruce has it but wants it back if Bruce dies first... lol In 2009 to mark the Shadows 50th anniversary, Fender made a small number of commemorative Stratocasters copied from that original Strat. Just some rock and roll history for you there. Maybe you could put it in your next vid. 👌
