I am only at 15:53 part of this lecture and I can already strongly feel the strategy Allah planted in giving mother Mariam to her her mom when she wanted a son to service Allah. Allah gave Quran as the final scripture, in it he established the status of woman and broke all the misconceptions that the previous faith had- corrupting the people for generations spreading unjust against woman like wild fire. Allah alleviated woman status and raised them to a nobility level, and breaking this misconceptions of women are cursed temptress who will go through menstruation and childbirth and confinement to home like a slave. Omg this clarity wouldn’t have been possible without DR YQ session. He relating and presenting these other scriptures actually brings us closer to the words of Quran. Alhamdulillah. This so so deep. Subhana Rabbil Ala wabihamdih.

Summary(Important Notes) of The Stories of The Prophets- 25. The Role of Ḥawwā (Eve) In the Expulsion: Quran vs Bible (Pt. 13) Part - 2. Personal note: السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته This is Part-2 of the summary. Part 1 is commented in a different comment as the summary is too long to be commented on in one comment. The other comment is also in this comment box. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. The personal note ends... Is there any other evidence to suggest that Hawa might have played a role? There are 2 main evidences for them in the Islamic literature - 1. A number of reports from early مُفَسِّرُوْنَ (Qur'anic Interpreters) such as Qatada, Ibn Abbas, and others who are well-known to take from the Judeo-Christian sources. The methodology of these great people is that it is okay to take from Judeo-Christian sources. Therefore, it should come as no surprise when they hold an opinion that seems completely in harmony with these sources. The Sahaba and the Tabi’un are allowed to have their opinions and we respect that. But it doesn’t mean it came from Allah, therefore it is not binding upon the rest of us to believe in it. They are not part of tradition we are obliged to follow. In fact, though we love and respect all these early scholars, we should reject narrations when it clearly clashes with the Qur’an. 2. A Hadith of the Prophet(SAW) narrated by Abu Hurairah(RA) which has an indirect reference to the tempting of Hawa. This Hadith is found in Bukhari and Muslim which has the highest level of authentic. The Prophet(SAW) said: “Were it not for Hawa, no woman would ever betray her husband. And were it not for the children of Isreal, no meat would ever spoil.” This Hadith contains 2 statements that caused the scholars to pause and try to figure out what the statements mean. As for Hawa betraying Adam(AS), this motif exists in the Old Testament and the New Testament. The phrase “meat would not spoil had it not been for the children of Isreal” has caused a lot of discussion among the scholars. One interpretation is meat would not spoil if left out in the air and it was the children of Isreal that caused the meat the spoil. Some Scholars like Qatada and others has said that the children of Israel were the first to store meat and because they stored meat, they learnt that it can become rotten. Other scholars have other interpretations. Ibn Hajar dedicated a paragraph trying to find out what exactly this means. This same notion about meat spoiling because it had been left out is found in the Bible. In Exodus, Chapter 16, Verses 14 onwards, the Bible depicts a story that shows the Isrealites disobeying a command and did not put their trust in Allah and so, as a punishment, the meat spoiled. It is interesting that both the motifs - Hawa betraying Adam(AS) and meat spoiling because of children of Isreal - are clearly found in the Old Testament. The vast majority of scholars accepted this narration since it was authentic. Another group of scholars from Sunni Islam said that sometimes Abu Hurairah’s students mixed up. Even Imam Muslim mentions that sometimes K’ab al-Ahbar’s narrations got mixed up with Abu Hurairah. K’ab al-Ahbar was the senior most Rabbi convert and he came from a family of Rabbis. Abu Hurairah was his priced student. So a number of scholars have said that this Hadith might not actually be a Hadith, that it might be from the Judeo-Christian sources and it was attributed to the Prophet(SAW) because of a legitimate mix-up. We know this can be the case because of another narration by Abu Hurairah in Sahih Muslim which is highly problematic to many scholars, even Ibn Taimiyyah and ibn Nawawi say that it is not from the Prophet(SAW), it is from Judeo-Christian sources. A Hadith has two features - Isnad (chain of narration) and Matn (text/content). The Isnad is the chain between the compiler and the Sahabi. The bulk of Hadith criticism (95%) deals with Isnad, how strong it is, whether there are any unreliable narrators, etc. In Sunni Islam, generally speaking, did not want to open the door of Matn (text/content) criticism. The reason for this is that they did not want to do the same thing that non-Sunni groups like Mu’tazilah do - placing more importance on the Matn (text/content) and rejecting Hadith because it “doesn’t make sense”. The group from Sunni Islam who believe that the above narration is not authentic and that it is from Judeo-Christian sources, base it on the Matn (text/content) criticism. They have applied the Sunni methodology, so even if you don’t agree with the conclusion, you must respect them. You cannot accuse them of rejecting a Hadith in this case. There is a difference. They are not rejecting the saying of the Prophet(SAW), they reject the statement being attributed to him(SAW). This is a difference between Kufr and Iman. You can say these people are wrong and mistaken but you cannot say they did Kufr. There are many instances of Matn(text/content) criticism in the Hadith literature. A famous example is Ibn Abbas narrating that Prophet(SAW) married Maimoona while being in Ihram, the scholars of Islam have told that this is not correct in the text even if Ibn Abbas actually narrated it (he remembers it wrong) since the Isnad (chain of narrators) is perfect. Another being multiple narrations about how many Ruku’ (3, 2 or 4) the Prophet(SAW) did in the Eclipse prayer and (he(SAW) had only prayed that prayer once in the whole lifetime. The scholars have had to sift through these narrations on the basis of Matn (text/content). When it comes to the narration of Abu Hurairah about Hawa and the children of Israel, the majority opinion is that it is valid and they accept the Hadith as what the Prophet(SAW) said. They explain what the “betrayal” here refers to in a number of ways - 1. Ibn Hajar comments “The betrayal of the wife of Adam(AS) was not the betrayal of adultery for no wife of any Prophet, even Lut(AS) and Nuh(AS), betrayed them in this manner. Rather it was the betrayal of enticing and encouraging her husband to eat from the tree. Because Hawa did this to Adam(AS) so too if any woman betrays her husband, it is as if she is not doing justice to her husband in this regard.” 2. Ibn al-Jawzi comments “As for the betrayal of Hawa to her husband, it was because she did not advise him(AS) regarding the tree and she should have stopped him(AS) from doing so.” 3. Ibn Al-Athir says the same thing - “The betrayal of Hawa is that she did not advise Adam(AS) when he(AS) ate from the tree.” The minority opinion is that, in all likelihood, the Prophet(SAW) did not say this and it was taken from the Judeo-Christian sources and mistakenly attributed to the Prophet(SAW). This is because the notion Hawa tempted Adam(AS) is not found in the Qur’an at all. Whether you take the majority or the minority opinion, you should be careful not to, in any way, extrapolate from this narration and follow the route that the Western civilisation had taken. There is no concept of Original sin in Islam. Even if Hawa had done it, the rest of the women do not “bear this sin”. No one bears the sins of the other even if it is your mother. This is the Islamic concept. Whatever the Prophet(SAW) said and we know he(SAW) said it, it is completely true and we all must believe in it. The question arises in whether he(SAW) actually said it or not and there all the methodologies of Sunni Hadith studies come into play. This ends the entire summary. Anyone who thinks I have missed some point is welcome to reply but please give the time in the lecture when Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi talked about it so that I can be sure. JazakaAllah Khair

Summary(Important Notes) of The Stories of The Prophets- 25. The Role of Ḥawwā (Eve) In the Expulsion: Quran vs Bible (Pt. 13) Part - 1. Personal note: السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته This is Part-1 of the summary. Part-2 is commented in a different comment as the summary is too long to be commented on in one comment. The other comment is also in this comment box. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. The personal note ends... The Qur’an is very explicit about this, Hawa is never singled out. The blame is always attributed to both of them. The use of dual pronouns is always observed. The Qur’an has no concept of Hawa taking the extra blame. In fact, there is a possibility/appearance in the Qur’an that Adam(AS) took a greater share in the blame. This is because Adam(AS) is singled out in certain places, the most explicit being Surah Taha, Ayah 121 where Allah says “And Adam disobeyed his Lord and erred”. Many scholars have said this including Ibn ‘Ashur. In contrast, the Biblical narrative places an undeserved amount of guilt on Eve and almost completely exonerates Adam(AS) from making a mistake. This is one of the fundamental differences between Biblical paradigm and Qur’anic paradigm. The Biblical paradigm is very clear in Genesis Chapter 3, Verses 1-16. The image of Eve as temptress has resulted in an extremely negative stereotype throughout the Judeo-Christian sources. Not only Eve, the daughters of Eve have also inherited this guilt and this evilness of tempting people. Consequently, women were all seen as untrustworthy, that they were born morally inferior and so wicked. A number of verses in the Bible and other literature show this distrust and second class notion towards the womenkind - 1. Old Testment, Ecclesiastes, Chapter 7, Verses 26-28 - “More wicked than death is a woman…….Not one upright woman amongst them all”. 2. Catholic version of Hebrew Bible, Old Testament, Ecclesiastes, Chapter 25 - “Sin began with women and, thanks to her, we all must die”. 3. Biblical Commentaries on the Old Testament, Babylonian Talmud, Tract Iruvin 100, Rabbi Isaac bin Admi states - “Eve was cursed with 10 curses” - and then he lists them all. 4. Many orthodox and certain segments of Jewish people have Jewish prayers that tell the men to “Praise God that he was not created as a woman”. Not all Judeo-Christian traditions view women as substandard and second class, however it is safe to say that large groups of pre-morden Judeo-Christian traditions did hold this position. Islam has no such at all, Islam says that both men and women are equal in nobility and dignity but they have different roles and responsibilities. Allah did not prefer one gender over the other. Well-known and respected people in Christianity have clearly expressed their negative views on women and how they inherited Eve’s sin as it was Eve who tempted Adam(AS) - 1. St. Paul (One of the main founder of Christianity) - New Testament, 1 Timothy, Chapter 2, Verses 11-14 - “......I do not permit a woman to teach……she must be silent.” 2. St Augustine (The most respected and famous Church fathers from Early Christianity) - “What is the difference whether it is the wife or the mother, it is still Eve the temptress that we must be wary of in any woman. I fail to see what use a woman can be to a man if one excludes the function of bearing children.” 3. Tertullian (One of the Early Church fathers) - Talking to women, he said “.....You are the devil’s gateway….You are she who persuaded him who the devil was not courageous enough to attack.” 4. St Thomas Aquinas (The greatest theologian in Medieval Christianity) - “As regards to the individual nature, woman is defective and misbegotten…….while the production of woman comes from the defect of the active force or from material indisposition or even some external influence.” The same goes for many Christian church fathers and theologians and is also found in the Jewish Misnah and Talmudic literature. Women are denigrated because of the image of Eve who even Satan had to use to get to Adam(AS). The Qur’an could not be more different in its stance on this topic. Never is Hawa singled out in the Qur’an and, if anything, Adam(AS) takes the lion share of responsibility [since he(AS) has been singled out]. The Biblical version of this story is really a corrupt version and Qur’an has corrected it perfectly. This ends Part-1 of the summary. Part-2 is in a different comment. Anyone who thinks I have missed some point is welcome to reply but please give the time in the lecture when Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi talked about it so that I can be sure. JazakaAllah Khair

Salam Alaikum, 4:27 That may also tell us that responsibility lays on Adam. By default that puts Adam in president position. Man's nature has to lead. In home first, then public. In another words, Adam children has to realize that it is in their hands to lead. If they give it away to woman nature it will be their fault.

Unfortunately this hadith which apparently prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said about hawwa's betrayal doesn't make a lot sense to me in particular because it seems to suggest that there is the original sin that women had to suffer because of hawwa's betrayal so I can understand why this hadith may not be actually authentic I mean by the actual wording not the chain & really Allah knows best I don't know what to do with this hadith sadly As for the meat going rotton because of the children of Israel what's wrong with accepting that I don't understand how is this narration against the Quran? Can you explain please
