All in all, y'all came out pretty good. You will have things back right in no time at all. That big tree that fell over, has potential to be saved. Once, a hurricane pushed a huge pecan over( probably 3 times bigger than that one) . With help, and a tractor, we pulled the tree upright and wired it to another tree about 8 feet away. After a couple of years, the wire came off and the tree still stands today...30 years later.

@@ashleywaters7198 Im sorry y'all have to deal with this mess. Crazy how one storm can affect your life in a short time. We had a huge hail storm, 2 years ago, with softball size hail. Geez, it destroyed so much in a matter of minutes! It's terrible to watch nature make a meal of all your stuff. I hope your clean up goes quick!

Hi guys, the positive thing from this “ storm test “ is that everything you already restored overall held up very well , so it confirmed that you all did a great job! Glad there are no casualties beside the tree. Hugs and positive thoughts to everyone.

URGENT: When doing your repairs always keep in mind the worst weather. Working shutters for all the windows are essential they stop flying branches etc from breaking glass. hook latches / Hasp Latches on all doors, windows and shutters to stop them blowing open. The cottage is missing 2 rows of slate on top of the metal strip. See this video for explanation: (Part 6 - Ridge Cap - Greenstone Slate / SlateTec slate roof Installation system video series). So much easier to watch that, than for me to explain. My ex was a Steeplejack.

Hi Terry, I know you have some damage and that’s awful, but just think if you hadn’t bought the Chateau I dread to think what that storm would have done to it and the cottage, because of all the wonderful work you’ve all done, there is minimal damage from a storm as powerful as that one, your all safe and well and that’s what matters the most, much love to you all xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx😘❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Storm shutters are a blessing. Back in the day they served a purpose other than decoration. Storm cellars too. Those new windows held up well in the chateau. I'm just glad you all are ok and safe. Hopefully you won't have another bad storm like that again anytime soon.

Wind & water tests give you a true picture of how successful your repairs have been. Take heart that you’re on a good path and the old girl has probably seen worse and is still standing. Those tile floors in the foyer are beautiful- would love to know the provenance of their design. 🙏🏻

Its heartbreaking to see the damage that has been done and I can understand how disheartening it must be to see it happen. But you have to also remember how the old girl and the cottage would have fared had you all not put the love you have into her the last few years. Im pretty certain it would have been so much (even catastrophicly) worse for them. Never forget you have saved their legacy

Your background music and the heavy winds gave this video a Wuthering heights kind of feel. Very moody, perfect for a storm. I bet you would love a big roaring fire in the fireplace, a warm blanket and a glass of spiced wine. I'm glad your family is close by so you could check on them. Very good episode.

Sorry to hear about the damage. On the positive, no one was hurt and everything is fixable. You now know which windows need attention. You may want to check the trees from above to see if there are any limbs hanging which could kill you. 3 Years ago we had a horrible wind storm on VI, BC. It actually looked like a giant had come and knocked every tree down in its path.

Glad that nasty storm did not do more damage than it did. After enduring that and taking stock of leaks, etc you will know where to prioritize your efforts to keep the chateau dry inside. The cottage roof is definitely the most severe issue, but I know your family will handle this together as you always do.❤

We have storms here in Florida and you don't have a problem until you have a problem. I once had rain coming in on the north side of my house. It hadn't happened before and not since. We never know and sometimes it will never happen again. Let it dry out completely before doing any work. Look for damage from previous water because leaks are so hard to trace. Best wishes to all of you from Florida USA ❤️

You can make sand socks. My mom used to take old socks or make a long tube out of old sheets, filled them with sand, and used them against the bottom of the doors to prevent water and wind from getting in. You can make smaller ones for your window sills. The sand will absorb the water. I think every country is going through strange weather. I live in Tucson, Arizona, which is a desert, and we are going through freezing temperatures right now. I'm praying for you guys!

Your storms aren't something to take lightly, and I'm very glad none of you were injured. Living in Southern California most of my life, shutters are nothing more than a decorative touch, but I can see how vital they are to the chateau. I was relieved there wasn't more damage, and almost bit my nails at the leak in the tower that didn't quite seem to have an interior source. I hope you find that quickly. But I was so sad to see the tree down, both of them. I hope none of the repairs are worse than you expect after your first inspection, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for better weather to tackle all the additional work ahead.

Be careful under the big trees. After a big wind storm, trees and big branches can continue to fall for 2-3 days. Weakened by the storm, gravity keeps up its relentless tug, and if they’re weakened too much, they fall. Keeping the shutters sounds like a good idea. I think you have metal ones you can roll down on the top floor, right? Might want to use those when a big storm is going to blow in.

We had a record setting intense wind and snow storm for 2 days straight, December 23 and 24. Never seen anything like it. Our power was out for 30 hours. I’m so sorry about the leaks and damage. It’s always sad when you lose a favorite tree. On the east coast of the United States we deal with hurricanes, tropical storms and nor’easters. The damage from those storms can be horrific so I understand how upsetting it is for you. Especially for your parents with the brand new restored cottage. But those sideways driving winds and rain can cause leaks where you might never see them during a typical rain. Be careful for falling branches, and my thoughts are with all of you. xx

@@ashleywaters7198 I heard some noises that worried me, half expected multiple tiles off but just the one went. They're crumbling though, a replacement roof is definitely on the cards this year.

I'm very frightened of storms so i really feel for you. I hope you get the roof of the cottage sorted soon and the lead securely fixed back in place. When the storm dies down i'm sure, knowing you all you'll work together and make good. Take care.

We had a very unusual situation in California and my house is almost 100. It looks awful and my roof and windows were a mess but it’s all part of owning a home. Fixing never ends. Glad everyone is ok and everything can be fixed. ❤

The damage is widespread in France from these massive wicked storms. Thank God all are safe, the damage can all be fixed, and now you can plant new trees. Take care.
