All in all, y'all came out pretty good. You will have things back right in no time at all. That big tree that fell over, has potential to be saved. Once, a hurricane pushed a huge pecan over( probably 3 times bigger than that one) . With help, and a tractor, we pulled the tree upright and wired it to another tree about 8 feet away. After a couple of years, the wire came off and the tree still stands today...30 years later.

@@ashleywaters7198 Im sorry y'all have to deal with this mess. Crazy how one storm can affect your life in a short time. We had a huge hail storm, 2 years ago, with softball size hail. Geez, it destroyed so much in a matter of minutes! It's terrible to watch nature make a meal of all your stuff. I hope your clean up goes quick!

Hi guys, the positive thing from this “ storm test “ is that everything you already restored overall held up very well , so it confirmed that you all did a great job! Glad there are no casualties beside the tree. Hugs and positive thoughts to everyone.

URGENT: When doing your repairs always keep in mind the worst weather. Working shutters for all the windows are essential they stop flying branches etc from breaking glass. hook latches / Hasp Latches on all doors, windows and shutters to stop them blowing open. The cottage is missing 2 rows of slate on top of the metal strip. See this video for explanation: (Part 6 - Ridge Cap - Greenstone Slate / SlateTec slate roof Installation system video series). So much easier to watch that, than for me to explain. My ex was a Steeplejack.

Your background music and the heavy winds gave this video a Wuthering heights kind of feel. Very moody, perfect for a storm. Sorry to hear about the damage. On the positive, no one was hurt and everything is fixable. You now know which windows need attention. You may want to check the trees from above to see if there are any limbs hanging which could kill you. 3 Years ago we had a horrible wind storm on VI, BC. It actually looked like a giant had come and knocked every tree down in its path.

You can make sand socks. My mom used to take old socks or make a long tube out of old sheets, filled them with sand, and used them against the bottom of the doors to prevent water and wind from getting in. You can make smaller ones for your window sills. The sand will absorb the water. I think every country is going through strange weather. I live in Tucson, Arizona, which is a desert, and we are going through freezing temperatures right now. I'm praying for you guys!

Your storms aren't something to take lightly, and I'm very glad none of you were injured. Living in Southern California most of my life, shutters are nothing more than a decorative touch, but I can see how vital they are to the chateau. I was relieved there wasn't more damage, and almost bit my nails at the leak in the tower that didn't quite seem to have an interior source. I hope you find that quickly. But I was so sad to see the tree down, both of them. I hope none of the repairs are worse than you expect after your first inspection, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for better weather to tackle all the additional work ahead.

Be careful under the big trees. After a big wind storm, trees and big branches can continue to fall for 2-3 days. Weakened by the storm, gravity keeps up its relentless tug, and if they’re weakened too much, they fall. Keeping the shutters sounds like a good idea. I think you have metal ones you can roll down on the top floor, right? Might want to use those when a big storm is going to blow in.

I’m so sorry about the leaks and damage. It’s always sad when you lose a favorite tree. On the east coast of the United States we deal with hurricanes, tropical storms and nor’easters. The damage from those storms can be horrific so I understand how upsetting it is for you. Especially for your parents with the brand new restored cottage.
