What if the eye of the storm (just big enough for a galleon) is free from the effects of the storm. This would make pvp in storms interesting as players compete for control of the eye to win a fight. Also, it could be used to hide from reapers, or if you are reapers, hide your signature on the map allowing you to sneak up on people. I remember a couple of months ago I proposed on reddit a thing very similar to what was said here about different speeds in the storm... Basically I suggested dynamic wind but not just for the storm, in fact it would also be cool if the wind changed based on where you are in the world. For example near an island you notice that usually waves disappear... this means that also the wind would be not as strong as the open seas. At the same time there could be places where the wind is stronger such as the storm or some sharp rocks in the wilds, as the wind would be channeled through them and get stronger (which is actually something that happens irl).

Tip for finding direction in a storm- Waves always move in the same direction; from NW to SE so you can use that to orient yourself in a storm without checking map or waiting for compass to calm down. This had some exellent balancing ideas! The storm becomes less of an obstacle and more of a utility! This gave me a new idea: Since in this ideal tweek, the Kraken and Meg won't spawn, but what if something else came? Something unique to the storm? May I introduce Charybdis, a monster from Greek Mythology that swallows up sailors by greating whirlpools with its giant mouth. It can be a random encounter or a garunteed fight in the center of the storm, but it's another leviathan to battle. I imagine it's a fight where it catches your ship and tilts it slightly towards the center of the whirlpool, where its mouth is. You'll need to fire at the mouth while also making sure you're turning away enough to avoid getting caught in the center and taking massive hull damage, but not so much that you escape the whirlpool and are unable to hit cannons. The risk is that there's a massive beast in the storm, but it has SO MUCH GOODIES. That, or just have whirlpools or water spouts in the storm that can damage you, but also grant higher than average speed.
@NorwegianNarwhals3 жыл бұрын
I like how in the storm, combat has more options. Normally it's just, someone drive the ship in a circle, someone shoot from the cannons, someone board their ship. I might be a rare case but I honestly LOVE the storm. I usually try to stick near to it if I wish to go for a full secure run. For the fact that most are led astray by it that makes it a soundly safe spot, not only that but I really don't need a compass most of the times if I navigate. The map can help a lot to put you in a general direction, thus making the storm the sloops best friend. For the other ships it can be fatal but the sloop with all of its advantages can surely benefit from it if handled correctly

I’ve been flying through storms in my sloops solo for a while now. I’ve a theory that seems to work for me. -We get damaged from the wave crashes, I think water has an impact value in storms. I just ‘surf’ along the ridge of a wave, I quickly alternate between left/right just off centre on the wheel, keeps the boat strait as a whistle, and I don’t take enough rain water to sink, plus waters my plants for me. I agree, megs and Kraken shouldn’t be in the storm. Skeleton ships are a minor inconvenience as I’ve seen many sink to the storm themselves.

good ideas although if you want to use your compass theres a good trick for it basically both your compass on you and your compass on your ship cant be messed up at the same time so lets say the ship compass is spinning check your compass in ur iventory and itll be find also i like the plank idea since my own idea was that you could tie a rope on the wheel and it would snap at one point therefor adding something new and being interesting i took inspiration from pirates of the Caribbean since jack used ropew to tie his wheel into place

me and a m8 did the parrot skeleton tall tale. we were lvl 5 emissary and had stacks of planks and canons that we'd grinded for the entire day. we struggled for a long time with the riddles but managed to do them. then we went back to the boat to finish the very last part of the tale. when we came close to our boat, it sunk right in front of us. the storm made a hole/holes in it while we weren't paying attention and had slowly filled with water. the worst part was that the storm had just fucked off. they need to rework the storm cause now its way to annoying. it'd be enough to them to lower the chance of getting hit by lightning a bit and having it not punch holes while at islands

Maybe every once in a while a world event could happen with a bigger and more powerful storm but it sticks in one spot with a huge sailing bossfight Right in the eye of the storm with loot and rewards you can't get anywhere else and maybe even temporary ship upgrades likes storm sails where your masts won't be damaged by the storm floof but if your mast is knocked down by another player you lose them or a ship wheel and compass that aren't as easily moved by the storm also some storm themed cosmetics would be pretty great too. There is a sailor myth about the eye of the storm. It's a stone that's found in the storm (I might be wrong that it exists). So my idea for this is to have this in the core of the storm, (I don't know how) and until it's not taken the storm is stronger. Like more lightning, more damage. Nothing about the wheel because it's enough annoying. And to implicate that the eye of the storm is there you could have a different lighting in the storm cloud.

The Storm is special to me for a specific moment that happened while playing the game with my girlfriend and one of her friends. He had a Reaper Chest, which led a Reaper Flag Gallion right to us. Our friend managed to somehow kill everyone on it giving us enough time to escape from them since we were sailing a Brigantine. They were still on our tail so we anchored the ship behind an island and I watched the map like a hawk as the Gallion tried to follow us, we timed it perfectly and managed to get away with them far behind us. In order to actually cash in our chests before the Gallion caught up to us, we had to sail through the storm. I was at the helm and fought the whole way trying to keep the ship going straight, with a Reaper Gallion after us, it was intense and felt incredible! We managed to cash in all our loot before the Gallion caught up and started bombarding our ship, but they got no loot. That one instance made not only the storm special to me, but also made me fall in love with this game.

Holding a player compass out next to a ships compass will cause one of the two to stop spinning

When in the right place it's great for evading other ships, especially if you're a small ship evading a large ship. The larger ships will tend to try to avoid the storm because they more rapidly take damage. You can also take advantage of the reduced view to make a turn and head in a direction that the enemy isn't going. When in the storm you always want to keep good landmarks in view to maintain the heading you want.

Idea for the storm, some kind of item you get from an Order Of Souls voyage(possibly) called a Storm Anchor. You sail out to the heart of the storm and you can use it to force a server change for yourself. Ship gets bombarded with lightning meaning it'll take damage and you could die. You'll change servers and have to repair yourself before you sink. Cannot be used on other ships. Possibly have to hang it up somewhere and it just doesn't let you do that on other ships. Although could be funny to trick someone into forcing them into a new server.

Nothing more satisfying than losing a pursuing galleon by cutting through the storm tho

I would love to see giant water waves which could damage your ship if it hits you sidways, so you have to sail frontal to the wave to be unharmed. Also these waves could have some supplies or a few treasures swimming in or on the waves which has a small chance to rinse on your ship if you sail very good towards it...

I always said that the wheel shouldn't move freely when a player is holding it. Why can't your character hold it still? As long as someone's on the wheel, it shouldn't move. I can understand when no one is on it, but if you're using it, it should stay stationary.

An experienced Helmsperson will know, sloops best for Storms, followed by Brigs, Galleons only if you feel you can win the tides and chance the battle. Sloops have the best time with maneuverability, and Brigs are more stable with speed. Unless you can keep the wheel steady, just don't risk it, find an Island to park too.

I once used the storm to shake a reaper galleon off of me. It worked. It can be helpful but it’s very situational.

I've been able to manage using the storm to escape another ship chasing me a couple of times. Sure, if the ship is really good they can track you but sometimes a storm is great for making it through, as long as your whole crew is helping you make it through in the most efficient manner possible.

the one reason i like storms is it makes it easier to tuck since all the rain and fog gives you cover, sneak 100 type

personally what I would do is instead of nixing the two beasties altogether from the storm, I would Make the loot more valuable and worth it, along with maybe adding a new achievement like “hello beasties“ Or something to reference Pirates of the Caribbean. And perhaps a special title. That way they would actually be some kind of merit to having to fight creatures like that in the storm

i like your jamming the wheel idea. not just for storm situations but also an interesting way to make boarding another player's ship more interesting. it'd be like a manual helmball. though i'd rather fight for either a crateball to be added or for the barrelball to also block opening crates, it's so easy to just have a deck crate full of supplies that barrelballs become worthless. obviously the counter to that is to drop that crate overboard but not a lot of people think to do that. but then you also have those guys who keep all their storage crates on deck, making it impossible to do said throw the supplies overboard maneuver. storage crates, although limited in supply slots, is extremely OP because there is no way to block them and they are very easy to get in any quantity.

it would be really really useful with the wind feature, since you could use it for your own advantage when you're trying to go faster, i think that you should also be able to use the whirlpool to boost yourself without taking damage to the mast

I wish they would add something to the fog. like something can snatch you off the boat if you hear some kind of noise from the mist, it means you need to hide in the lower deck for a bit. Then once it stops you can come out.
