Tyrannosaurus Rex's arms, though small, are exceptionally strong. If you're body were proportionally as strong as T-Rex arms are, you could literally wrestle a grizzly bear to the ground and break ever bone in its body, save only for a grizzlies skull. Some large bore rifles can't even penetrate a grizzly skull. Suffice it to say. T-Rex arms are incredibly strong for their size. However, T-Rex doesn't need to use them for killing prey like other Therapod dinosaurs do.

18:33 my first idea with this is that this is where a Scythe suddenly becomes overpowered. Think about it, you use your shard blade as a sword, get into a bind, transform it into a scythe, and it pokes the enemy in the face as it curves around their blade.
@matohibiki19 күн бұрын

These are the kinds of videos, I wish could give a super like. The cutting mechanics and absorbing their weapons into their body is pretty cool. I made a character with the same morphing weapon and armor mechanic, but he was the material avatar of a deity, so it was a one of a kind weapon. He couldn't store it inside himself, but he carried it around disguised as a screwdriver and hid his armor as a necklace. I usually wrote him as an incognito presence, set in a modern time period; like Pixar's "Onward," hence the screwdriver and not something like a dagger. I used that setting way before Pixar did, so I assume they have spies everywhere, and stole it. There are important plot reasons he needs to limit the use of his power as much as possible, which helps raise the stakes when he runs into less than godly threats. He's gotta go balls to the wall in the best stories though. I was like 12 when I wrote my first story with him, and he was pitted against Jason Voorhees. This video coming on the heels of the one Skallagrim put up the other day, I'm feeling some creative sparks, so maybe I'll rewrite that one with an original Jason-esque villain.

I love the Stormlight Archives, I was through book 1 and 2 before realizing the vastness of Sanderson's cosmere jumping right into Mistborn in the wait for what would have been Oathbringer at the time. Then the spiral in to Robert Jordan happened, and somewhere in there I read Shadow of the Conqueror. Eventually in the wait for Wind And Truth that arrived to me yesterday, reading the Tolkiens Silmarillion hobbit and LOTR. Finally, after what feels an eternity book 5 is here!

The fact that Shad helped with Storm Light 4 is kinda awesome. Go Shad! I really need to finish Oathbringer...

If it doesn't flex on overstrike then the danger then becomes that of snapping! Glad you mentioned this issue though Shad. That end momentum is a real game changer in practical sword use - from single handed chops where it leads the momentum into the penetration, or rapiers and tip work were too much tip wait makes movement clumsy and a basic cut is plenty to stop a light or unarmed opponent. Where Two handed weapons it can help drive through the block German style, or lend depth to a false edge cut and the extra hand can carry the weight to make the blades stronger against moment of fracture. To maces and axes, where it is pure wastage. Long swords it's wasted energy that may break the weapon like whacking sticks vertical on the top of a fence. Or in katana where there's an important sweet spot and angle, that drive the edge deep and then the movement of the body is used to drive that momentum along the cut to reduce the breaking moment and to slide the edge through the target. And to scimitar and pulwar much are curved in such a way that the blade center doesn't go past point of contact thus won't break, and the momentum is along the blade with a center that is behind the blade proper so it will bite but then the emphasis on the curve to get that effect greatly changes the fighting chracteristics (the "basic box" of western style is less useful)

I LOVE THESE TYPES OF VIDEOS!!

The huge lever force multiplyer being canceled out by the metallurgical properties of the great sword is really interesting. Ultra basic physics being combined with very high level physics and chemistry. I watched his reply to Veritasium's katana metallurgy yesterday which is a great video to watch before this one. I majored in Chemistry and Biochemistry so I can follow all of the crystal formations without any confusion. X-ray crystalography is used to determine the real shapes of molecules like proteins and some other stuff. Go watch that video of his if you haven't seen it.

In the secret project called "The Sunlit Man" it explains that the bigger the weapon becomes, the more external power it needs. So you could totally just have it grow super long to snipe someone, but you just need power

Very awesome theorising about fantasy swords!!!

One quote that would have been pertinent is in RoW when Adolin is considering shardblades and notes the fact that radiants typically use their blades in shorter, more practical forms and that the dead blades were frozen in their largest. most ostentations shape, the one that one might use to grandstand or announce oneself as a radiant

22:20 two options, Shard Plate, or aluminum Shield
@Speedy50019 күн бұрын
@userJohnSmith I mean aluminum stops shard blades, and it is a light metal, sure there is the problem of not being able to lash it
@Speedy50019 күн бұрын
@userJohnSmith I believe we had it confirmed in Oathbringer, I know that we had it confirmed, may have been in an ask, but the properties is Aluminum in the cosmere are such that it always blocks investiture, and stuff, I remember a character talking about how if you pound aluminum into a sheet or something that shardblades will cut through it like any other sword, but that shardblades were no better at cutting aluminum than any conventional tool. But I may be mistaken
@Speedy50019 күн бұрын
@userJohnSmith oh and some advantages of aluminum are that it is cheaper than half shards, and it is likely to last longer against a shard blade
@Speedy50019 күн бұрын
@userJohnSmith on Roshar, you can obtain it in one of 2 ways, extract it from mentors, or soulcastinf it, it itself can’t be affected by soul casting, but it is a known metal that can be produced by soulcastinf the Singers called it Ralkalest, also at one point Shallan had a necklace made of the stuff, it was the necklace she received from her father, the necklace she killed him with. Expensive but relatively easy to obtain in the days of radiants

@userJohnSmith it can’t be soulcasted but it can be produced by soulcasting, or you can get it from meteors Shallan was given a necklace made of Aluminum from her father, and it was said to be soulcasted, so expensive but relatively easy to obtain in the days of Radients.

I heard "shart" blade at first and got a good chuckle. I need to get back to the storm light series. My wife and I read the first book together, and I never had the time to continue on.
