See how Adobe Co-Founder John Warnock first conceived of Illustrator as a PostScript drawing tool and how PostScript's Bézier curves could be applied to the shapes illustrators painstakingly created by hand. Rapidiograph and Leroy pens took a certain finesse. But they were not as bad as portrayed here. Try using a split head pen you put colored gouache in to rule shapes.
