Funny thing about the barricade and the cannon… I just grab adrenaline, shoot the cannon, use the adrenaline and run through the fire instantly, booking it to the safe house without waiting for the hoard event to end. Got to have enough health to tank it and the adrenaline speed to make it, tho.

1:03 - More specifically, Zoey can say that line when she looks at the pilot's dead body, which is kind of morbid if you think about it. She _just_ killed the guy, and is now cracking a quip about it. 2:56 - I can confirm that this is not related to the angels of death. Some of the names used in the campaign's graffiti are nods to various people that worked on it, though there _is_ an unused graffiti that references the poetry graffiti from Crash Course. 7:07 - I've been wanting to make a lore/timeline video for the game, and already have a ton of information gathered for it (But not written into a proper script). I'd be happy to share my findings with you for consideration, if that's of interest, since I've had to put off the idea for years now due to getting too busy and will likely never actually get around to finishing it. I hope you mention how awesome the people defending Riverside were, since by all accounts it fell really shortly before the survivors got there, and the fact the town managed to hold out on pure grit, determination, and hope alone would make for an awesome movie. They only faltered when the Special Infected showed up, which speaks volumes about the unsung heroes that fought till the end, just to hopefully let a few more people escape safely.

Both Nick and Zoey have surprisingly cold reactions to shooting someone who just tried to save them. That map in chapter 2 is such a clusterfuck lmao. That map and the map from Dead Center tell completely different information. The west coast on the DC map is basically blank but the CC map shows that the infection has supposedly spread all the way to California. This is why a timeline video feels like an absolute nightmare (but also fun at the same time) The Death Toll video is gonna be fun and I'll be sure to give that a mention, and I would love to have your findings shared with me. This story is confusing enough as it is, and the left 4 dead 1 campaigns are especially vague.

I'm currently compiling notes for the Death Toll video. There is so much shit in chapter 3, the dates on the graffiti date from October 2nd to October 17th and the graffiti in chapter 2 is also dated October 2nd. Tally marks which I can only assume are infected kill counts can be found throughout the saferooms and the tower outside of chapter 3. The dates and timeline are easier to pin down in Death Toll thats for sure, a lot of dates making it easier to pinpoint a timeline. Judging by the earliest date on the graffiti being Oct 2, that is likely the day that Riverside was attacked (Or more accurately, fell from the inside, as implied by Bill and the barricades still being up) I appreciate the help also.

​@@ImNotConz That early October date graffiti, along with the graffiti in Swamp Fever dated in November, are singlehandedly the most annoying dates in the entire game, since they make no sense no matter how you try to fit it into a chronology. We know from the comic that it took 2 days for the infected to actually start attacking on a large/noticeable scale, given that Louis was still going into work 2 days after the first infection. If Riverside was actually attacked on October 2nd, then that means the outbreak must've started on September 31st, with No Mercy taking place on October 13th (Since the L4D1 intro notes it as being 2 weeks after the first infection) - But that would also mean it took the survivors 3 entire days to drive to Riverside in order for the October 17th dates to make sense, which conflicts with the geographical layout, since multiple maps in the game show Riverside being right next to Fairfield (military_map01.vtf even shows all the campaign's locations quite clearly) Since the map of the evacuation centers in Crash Course has "Gone to church" written underneath it, it further implies that Riverside is really close by and even likely reachable on foot, assuming that the church the graffiti refers to is the same one as in Riverside, which it appears to be since it's written right next to the map denoting Riverside's Church as the last evacuation point. The fact that the Slaters are still waiting around on the river also adds to the notion that Riverside was only overrun shortly before the survivors got there, since they wouldn't have spent 2 entire weeks waiting next to a location they knew was overrun and devoid of survivors. No Mercy also has a graffiti with a vague date of "Thursday" mentioned, where a person named Kate says they aren't waiting any longer at Mercy Hospital, and are going to go to Riverside instead. That graffiti would have to have been written on October 8th or October 15th, putting Riverside's fall somewhere after one of those respective dates. It's not much help, but still a vague date to keep in mind, especially since it indicates that Riverside was still evacuating people up until that date, at least as far as the person writing that graffiti knew. A lot of people seem to actually know about Riverside, seeing it as their last hope of escaping alive, so it clearly had a reputation amongst survivors. All in all, _something_ doesn't make sense, no matter how much the chronology is shuffled around or adapted. I'd opt to say that the early October graffiti is not canon, since we have other instances of graffiti with dates that make no sense (Swamp Fever and The Last Stand), so it's the least-intrusive and most reasonable thing to chalk up to developer oversight, and can be explained away in-universe by people mistakenly writing down the wrong date.

So just to recap quickly. The earliest death dated in Death Toll (From what I saw, there's a ton of dates so maybe I missed something) is October 4th, when Johnny was killed in friendly fire, October 2nd is the earliest recorded sighting of the infected in Riverside and I couldn't find a date in the church after October 17th. Riverside was under attack for 16 days, and considering that the church guy was bitten 1 hour before the survivors arrive, and the bus still being on fire. Yea, Riverside fell a day? maybe hours before the survivors arrived? Just like with Mercy hospital. Also regarding the map in CC, while the exact location of the crash is mostly unknown, if they crashed closer to Riverside they would of just walked it, but instead they take a truck, implying that the survivors are still a fair distance away from Riverside. Meaning the pilot turned very, very quickly after picking up the survivors (Pilot and Church guy turning at different times is also very interesting, and something I will talk about briefly in the DT video) (I know when your compare the church graffiti to the Swamp Fever graffiti everything goes to shit but I'll worry about explaining that in the timeline video that may or may not happen)

Happened during an evacuation when a Super Typhoon was supposed to hit my country (thank god it was just a prediction and it didn't happen) and a lot of people said that the school didn't agree to be a evacuation center. Regarding the howitzer, it's possible the checkpoint where you can find it was originally a lot further behind the lines, as it were, and then they got overrun. It's already loaded with a shell, but it's also hitched up to the truck. If I had to guess, they planned on relocating the gun, but then got overrun before they could leave.

Not sure if this is worth noting, but the piece of paper found at 3:47 and the piece of paper found at 3:54 are different. Other than the first paper being torn in half, there's another main difference. If you look closely, you can see that the names of the evacuation centers which are located under the map it provides are actually crossed out in the second paper (as well as big X's over the corresponding locations on the map), all but the Riverside First Church. I'm not sure what this could mean other than those locations being compromised in a matter of minutes (since the time it takes the survivors to reach that paper in the second chapter wouldn't take them that long). Felt like I should've pointed it out, though. (Side note: I found 8:26 pretty funny)

@@Metal0maniac98 I don't mind theories since it's just a speculation for fun but I think TLS team made it pretty clear that The Last Cringe campaign isn't cannon like Cold Stream (and that TLS team can't make fun and challenging events with examples such as "activate 3 generators, one of which is located in dead end during hordes", and "collect gas cans in thick bushes and trees"', and "fight another two tanks after second tank wave with tasteless metal cover theme"). Two problems are solved btw (gas can event is removed with mod "Disable Scavenge in The Last Stand Finale", second problem solved by me lol with the mod "Metal tank theme is NO MORE"

With the crossed-off safe zone, there could be a couple of reasons theorized. One is a developer perspective and the retconning of things depending on who knew if a sequel was coming or where they would put that sequel. Two is more diegetic, just bad information on a survivor's part in a game of telephone. It could even have been a group of survivors using the map to see where they could go, and it was crossed out because it was too far or there was no transportation to get there. But these are just guesses

There was one detail you missed and sorry if it’s already been mentioned. In the safe house, as you read, one of the wall graffiti entries mentions a few people who are holding up in a recycling plant and it says “look for the hollow container” When making your way towards the finale location, you’ll pass by a few containers. Outside you can see the lower half of a body, and a few feet away lies a hollow container that contains the top half of a body, which is most likely implied to be the two halves of the same person and probably either the person who wrote the graffiti or one of the people they were with. It’s a detail I’ve always loved in the campaign. Edit: I had the halves reversed. I went and checked it out. The hollow container contains a sleeping bag, some guns and the lower half of one of the people mentioned on the wall graffiti.

The fact that it's short (noticeably shorter than the others) and basic means this tends to be the map I go for with friends who are new or when we wanna do a quick or warm-up run. You can do partial clears of other campaigns too but then you have to debate the cutoffs. First cleared campaign on Expert Realism with randoms and no voice chat. Ended up clearing The Sacrifice next with the same group on ER. Fun times.

the safety zone map might have X's over certain areas because communications with Military Command have broken down and each zone probably just assumes the others are falling if they can't reach them over radio. In The Sacrifice Comic, Lt Mora notes that they haven't heard from Command in 9 days. Assuming multiple safe zones being overrun and plenty of military personnel and bases are being lost the ones that remain are probably just resorting to "if they don't pick up, assume they're KIA". Also, IIRC, the map in Dead Center doesn't have ANY safe zones marked west of the Mississippi indicating that either CEDA didn't even bother attempting to map out further safe areas or that the hotel was overrun before they could fully establish it as a base of operations

I get the feeling that Crash Course was so short because it was mainly put there to answer the "how did they get to Death Toll? and "Where's the helicopter?" Types of questions because to some it wouldn't have made much sense for them to just end up at the beginning of Death Toll after being airlifted from Mercy Hospital, even though Valve did decide to remove the pilot mentioning that he was infected before he even picked them up as on the radio during the No Mercy finale he mentions that there was an incident during a street pick up.

at 6:51 I would say that there could have been miscommunication or lack of communication as to if The Vannah was still in military control. If the world was ending, someone forgot to update other safe zones that they were good, the receiving contact locations might have assumed it was overrun or abandoned from 0 contact and scratched it off the map. Probably then had to flee themselves from their own locations leaving behind these maps of what was/is safe and what is not

Likely an unpopular opinion but i love this campaign simply because the interactions between the survivors throughout the whole thing is my favourite in the game, even including all L4D2 campaigns. I wish Valve had given the L4D1 crew more voicelines like these in the first 4 campaigns.

Maybe the x is not where the dead center campaign is but rather somewhere near and my theory is it got overun and the remaining ones left tried to evacuate as fast as possible and explains why the l4d2 gang were suprised that there was a lot of infected in the hotel

I'd rather say that the northern safety zone is Echo base, seeing as the farm house in Blood Harvest says it's an evacuation point for Echo base, in the comic it's further elaborated that it was for Echo base but Millhaven took the L4D1 survivors for their own purposes, and the military say Echo base is "more equipped for a prolonged assault", implying it's a larger fortress and they also speak of more survivors being held there. (another reason to not want to take the carriers there, too.) I think Fort Millhaven is more likely to be the smaller yellow point next to it circled in red, or another stronghold nearby.

Its entirely possible. The APC did drive from Millhaven, and that was a 10/15 minute ride at the most. (Maybe longer, but its not very far, thats for sure) It also doesn't help how this map and the map from Dead Center basically contradict eachother. The map in DC shows that the west coast is fine but the map In CC shows a base in California and Texas with an X over it. Again, very confusing.

@@ImNotConz the most likely possibility is the one you said yourself: it (the map) is inaccurate. The people in the game don't have all the information, and so I would assume they lost communication and assumed the worst. I also saw a comment entertaining the idea that the X's simply mean that zone is out of reach, but why N'Orleans would not be crossed while Savannah is doesn't really make sense geographically.

Great video, but its a lil sad that u didn't cover the steam reference and francis passing gas joke In the first chapter, after the hersch dialogue from francis if u take a left inside the building you will see some pipes with steam, and francis has a chance to say this: Francis: Hey, watch out for that goddamn steam pipe Zoey: Man, i love steam Francis: yeah steam is alright i guess. or Francis: watch out for steam... pipes... Zoey: Man, i love steam Francis: Oh yeah. I love steam. I just hate the pipes and in the second chapter, before walking through the container, if u take the truck shortcut, between the two large fuel tanks, francis will joke with zoey Francis: Hey Zoey, we're passing gas! Zoey: Heh, farting.

1:07 Correction, Zoey says that line only if you walk up to the pilot's corpse. Other survivors have different voicelines when approaching the dead pilot too. EDIT: zoey also has different lines for the dead pilot.

Plot: As the survivors are being evacuated they notice something is wrong the helicopter pilot turns out to be infected in a panic Zoe shoots the infected pilot in mid-flight and the helicopter crashes in an industrial area outside of the City of Fairfield in Whitney County the survivors survive the crash and find themselves in this new area starting the crash course campaign starting from next to the helicopter crash site the survivors Traverse fairfield's industrial landscape initially there is no firm clue about their destination until they make reference to a truck Depot and discuss the town of Riverside where a military evacuation Center is reported to be this plan obviously foreshadows and contextualizes the death toll campaign eventually they reach a truck Depot hoping to find a way to escape the infected and move on to safety at the truck Depot they discover an armored truck mounted on a workshop hoist which must be lowered before they can board and Escape as they power up the generator it attracts another horde of infected the survivors are forced to fight off the attacking zombies while the truck is being lowered after a tough battle the armored truck is finally ready the survivors jump in and escape driving away from the depot and leaving the infected behind.
